CSKA play their domestic home games at the Arena Khimki, which they currently share with Spartak Moscow.
They don't, Spartak have their own brand-new stadium

And change "Luzhniki" in the picture above the thread

Defo rest SwineTiger, Martial, Schneiderlin and Herrera. The PL this season with Chelsea as they are represents an opportunity which we really need to focus on. Realistically we should qualify but not win the CL. Thats not as defeatist as it sounds just managing the squad better than we did pre Arsenal.

I'd start Memphis and Carrick in this and give Fellaini a go at CAM. We really looked knackered vs. Arsenal and we need to be in full fitness against City.

Didn't we play at an earlier kickoff time the last time we played against CSKA a few years back?
Yeah, kicked off at 5:30 uk time, I remember walking out of a training course because the instructor wanted us to stay late and I refused to miss the game.

No way should we be resting anyone like some are suggesting. This will possibly be our toughest game in the group.

Martial is the only one I wouldn't start. It's unreasonable to play him every single game, and the City game is one we'll need him 100% fresh for.

Memphis has had his best displays arguably in Europe, so makes sense to do a switcheroo there

who does that leave in mid though? Carrick and Fellaini as a pair?!

Fellaini, Carrick and Memphis to play. Mata, Martial and Schweinstiger to be rested but play vs City.

A win would put us in a commanding position in the group with 2 home games to follow. 2-0 I reckon.

With Rooney as a 3....or Pereira? Basically we won't do this but to have any chance after that trip against city we have to take a big risk with the result in Russia for me. Abit like Arsenal did against us.

We're not playing there though unfortunately :( it's being renovated, the track's been taken out and two tiers are being installed I think.

Blind, Carrick and Memphis to start I reckon.
Thanks for this, i wondered why this is not played on Luzhniki stadium.

It will be hard game especially because we could rest some important players but i think we will win.

Does this pitch cause any potential injury concerns? Is it plastic?

I don't get people saying we should rest players. We need to win if we want a realist chance of finishing first in the group.

Rest Herrera? He's barely played football in the past 3 weeks.

It's an important game but it isn't a must win game in my opinion. I would rest a few players for this. Bring back Memphis, Blind, Carrick & Fellaini. I don't think we're weakening the team that much by doing this.

No resting players, we need to win the game. We didn't struggle for CL qualification for the entirety of last season so we could feck everything up by resting players in a tightly contested group just because we have a domestic derby next. I'm sure the players will be able to cope with these two games just fine. All teams have 3 points each, so we need to stake our claim for the top spot with a vital win in Moscow.

The game won't be easy, so people shouldn't underestimate CSKA. Slutsky is a good manager and knows how to set his teams up. He's also the manager of Russia and he turned their qualification campaign around after Capello left. CSKA have been very good in the Russian league this season and will probably become champions. They sold Doumbia to Roma in January for around 10 million euros, but he didn't establish himself in Italy, so he went back to CSKA on loan and has returned to his old prolific form since then. The Doumbia - Musa duo is lethal, they have great understanding. Tosic, Wernbloom and Dzagoev are other important players for them.

They'll probably play on the counter and will be very dangerous with such fast players, so we need to be smart and careful in our possession play. We're also playing in Russia, which is never easy. They're very strong at home and could have been 4-0 up against PSV in the first half if Doumbia hadn't missed the second penalty.

Play the strongest team (with the obvious midfield rotation to keep BFS and Carrick fresh) and if we're comfortable towards the end, sub some of our best players with an eye on the City game. No need to feck things up by ourselves with another negative result away from home.

The back four should remain the same. I'd swap in Carrick and Memphis for Bastian and Martial.

Schneiderlin, Herrera, Rooney and Mata are good for three in a row.

    This really. Good post.

They have a lot of technical and fast players, we have to be really careful between the balance of defence and attack (keeping possession). I think in the BBC website interview LVG said something about having set up his game plan so that we gave Everton time on the ball so that there was space (to break). That's something he'll need to learn when it comes to trying to dominate possession, sometimes you need to concede that so you can break them down; otherwise you're actually playing in their hands by forcing them back and keeping them concentrated in compact zones making them more dangerous as an attacking force (if they have the players, which CSKA certainly do).

They should be an easy win, so I'd like to see key players like Martial and Schweinsteiger rested

Rest Herrera? He's barely played football in the past 3 weeks.

Thats not how it works. Rest for the next 2 weeks then run 10 miles on the last day...then run another 10 miles 4 days later. I could give you a year off before the first outing if anything that zero action makes it even harder.

I say we rest players in Champions League matches to focus on matches where we potentially can secure qualification for the Champions League.

It's not a flat rate. He's a professional football in top form. He was well rested before the Everton game and even got subbed. He can easily play 3 games in 7-8 days.

The group is tight, would probably take resting a few players and take a draw with the huge game next weekend.
It is really tricky scenario. If we lose this, we will have to win all remaining 3. 2 of them are at home but last one is away to Wolfsburg. A win here and we could breathe easy. But then, match on next weekend is City so some chop & change is needed. I would play same team as vs Everton in match against City. Rest 3-4 including Smalling, Martial etc for CL game. Memphis, Fellaini, Blind etc should be able to do job in Moscow.

1 draw and 2 wins out of 4 will see us through the group. With the current change in seeding the chance of us getting a hard draw is pretty equal regardless of 1st/2nd in the group anyway.

Yup. 10 points are almost always enough to progress (except on rare scenarios when they haven't been, happened with City once I think). 1 point won't be bad but that's minimum. Can't afford to lose. A win will give us some margin for error later.

I'd like a few changes as I want the same team which beat Everton to play City.

We should have enough to come away from this with 3 points

I'm pretty confident we'll turn them and PSV over at home. Will take a loss if it means beating City at the weekend. Most likely we'll get something though

I am really surprised people are taking this game so lightly. This one is a must win game for us plus the opposition is quite formidable as what is made out to be by people on this forum. Any win and I shall be happy.

Can't get my head around people thinking CSKA are an easy team.

CSKA haven't lost a league game since April and will cause problems - particularly in Doumbia and Musa. They're a really tidy team and have a nice balance with Eremenko, Natkho and Dzagoev in midfield.

Martial's pace in behind against the Berezutski brothers and Ignashevich will be vital.
