Since CSKA play so asymmetrically with their wingbacks, Fernandes on the right very high up the pitch and Schennikov on the left much more restrained, I wonder if Mourinho could try to explore that unbalance, probably with Young as our leftwingback, or, on the contrary, with Darmian to keep Fernandes always in check?

Anyone who can predict our line up for this game is a genius or has inside info. Unless, Jose reveals the whole team in the pre-match conference. I'm going with this for now

    DDG
    Darmian Smalling Lindelof Blind
    Matic Herrera
    Lingard Mkhi Martial
    Lukaku

Fellaini out is not good news. Thank god for the international break. It's coming at the right time for once. Why no Carrick though I don't understand?

We should be able to handle Moscow and Palace without Pogba and Fellaini. Hopefully atleast one of them returns after the break.

I think Jose wants to start Carrick against Palace, if he feels Matic needs a rest, which is why Carrick hasn't travelled. I really think Carrick-Herrera should be enough for Palace, let's see. First Moscow.

I am almost 100% sure that this gonna be a 3-5-2 with a lot of defending. This way Jose can utilize Lindelof easier and give him the sufficient game time as well.
It being an away game is also a valid excuse for using it. Would be happy with a hard-fought 1-0.

Quite possible as Pogba and Fellaini are injured. A back three of Smalling, Lindelof and Bailly is pretty strong.

I have a feeling that - maybe subconsciously - Jose laid out his stall for this game against Southampton. Try and nick one, and then choke it out.

Yes I'm expecting a real fecking grind. I wouldn't rule out 3 at the back and soaking up some real grief in the second half.

Have a feeling this will be a really shit game.

Can definitely see Lingard starting, Martial too. Darmian and Blind might both come in at full back as well.

Cant remember any exciting games in Russia in the CL. It is really all about getting a result and return as fast as possible

Injury is the only explanation, I suppose.

I'm pretty sure too, but I'm expecting Lindelöf to perhaps feature in midfield.

The big issue for me is how defensive are we going, and I'm expecting a lot. I mean, we could even have a midfield three with Lindelöf, but I hope not.

Wow, allowing A.Pereira to go on loan looks dumber and dumber by the minute.

And he lost his place in Valencia to Guedes in the last two games and they're performing well.

Let's ignore the fact that Pereira wanted to go out on loan.

    de Gea

    Young
    Bailly
    Smalling
    Lindelof
    Darmian

    Matic
    Herrera

    Lingard
    Martial
    Lukaku
Is that Lingard in a wing? Cause in 3-5-2, Mourinho or puts him in leftwingback (which would be very offensive against Fernandes) or as the most advanced midfielder (which would still be an offensive lineup).

    De Gea

    Valencia Smalling Lindelof Darmian

    Matic Herrera

    Lingard Mkhitaryan Martial

    Lukaku

Alternatively if we do go 3-5-2, then I guess Lingard/Mkhitaryan will be on the bench.

3-5-2 would seem pretty pointless to me, one you're playing in to CSKA's back-three by going two upfront and leaving them the spare man, and two United don't have anyone good enough to play at LWB to both provide attacking width and defensively keep Fernandes in check (as Android1974 mentioned, they play asymmetrical wing-backs and he typically sits very high up the pitch) - it's either one or the other these days (Young to bolster the attack, or Darmian to bolster the defense for example).

    Someone said Valencia didn't travel

Mourinho did say indeed 3 at the back is the best way to counter 3 at the back. I feel he's approaching this game very cautiously, like Rostov.

Wait so, first of all he wanted to leave, even with promises of more playing time, he still felt he needed more playing time. Now you are saying he has lost his place in Valencia. Sounds like maybe he might not have been much help to us then?

He would have probably started the Burton game and would be now in the lineup for tomorrow, that's all I'm saying.

Let's ignore the fact he has a contract and must be allowed to be able to go on loan.

He was allowed because he wanted more minutes and we had to empathise with that.

5 fecking midfielders we have in the middle. I think wel be OK. 3 are out and we can still deploy a Matic Herrera combination. If anything it just points to our depth.

Anyone have a list of the traveling squad?
