I have complete faith in our ability to lose to terrifyingly awful teams. It's not like there isn't enough precedent from the last seven years. Remember Huddersfield away last season? Or Cardiff home? We got two points from our last five games last season and I'm afraid we might collapse the same way.
This isnt the same team as last season

This isnt the same team as last season

Well odds are it won't be but the back end of last season Pogba was looking as worn out and switched off as he was vs Southampton. Our 0-2 defeat at Old Trafford to Cardiff on the final day summed it all up.

That's good news, feeling a bit more reassured now.

Still think it'll be risky to start Shaw again but hopefully he only went off as a precaution (although he clearly wasn't running well)

Palace are a dodgy bunch, I just hope now they're safe they'll be on "on the beach" so to speak.

It's fair to say if we don't win this we can kiss goodbye top 4.

Win this game and the West Ham game should take care of itself (momentum)

I hope so but we looked very similar to last season's side against Southampton.

We scored 2 and created 2/3 other really good chances, that isn't similar to last seasons side at all.

Wow, those comparing the draw with Southampton with the end of last season really need to rewatch the end of last season. We were really dire during that time. A far cry from current era.
This. Our attacking game is so much better now, Soton played really well but we gave away the two goals. We have no problems scoring 2-3 goals per game.

Reading the comments from Ole he said Shaw's ankle is swollen. I'd be very surprised if they risked him unless it suddenly recovers by tomorrow.

Williams should be the safer option as it's only a cut, they can bandage him up before he goes out.

We weren't great but we were basically one clearing header away from probably not thinking that.

Palace have lost their 5 games.

It's going to be us isn't it...

I feel like as Utd fans we always find a way to make ourselves nervous. Southampton were in great form so I worried about that game because they're playing well, and Palace are losing every game so obviously my brain tells me of course they'll turn it on against us.

Also doesn't help that we will always be a scalp for teams. They'll lose games against teams around them because it means nothing to them.

Remember the home wins against Watford and West Ham last season? It was a bit like that. I mean I spent the last 30 minutes shitting myself, feeling like a goal was inevitable because we could not hold on to the ball. Two completed passes in a row felt like a huge achievement, especially after Pogba was taken off.

Am I missing an additional quote from somewhere? As these were Ole's exact words:

“Luke has got, well, a swollen ankle, I’ll give him as much time as possible to recover, it was a twisted ankle, Brandon cut up his eye, I don’t really know, none of them trained yesterday, they were both swollen and I’ll give them as much time as possible to let the swollen go away.”

Ole is obviously being clandestine and it does seem like they have a high chance of playing tomorrow, but I would argue that is far, far from Ole saying they are both fit for the Palace game. We'll see, I do reckon one of them starts though.

Tbh I am pretty nervous for this game. Not because of facing CP, they're pretty crap lately. But because it's scary to think what this place would become if we draw again or worse, lose. I'd be off from the caf for a few days if that's the case. Better for my mental health.

Anyway, imo we'll win this match. Some may find it strange but I do have faith in our lads and Ole. Last match they didn't lose heart, roll over and die when it was 0-1 like they usually did over the previous years. We'll win this match.

We should win this. I think West Ham will be trickier though.

Have we got John Moss again? We could do with another penalty

Well, we havent the best history of winning matches when the race tightens do we.

People are thinking about the whole ‘resting players’ thing the wrong way round. It’s more the fact that they looked tired and performance levels are starting to dip than ‘Resting them’ for more important matches. We need freshening up or I suspect we’ll put in another lethargic performance.

I think Ole should have introduced more of the fringe players and rotated as the schedule is harder than its ever been and players will naturally go off the boil and suffer fatigue!

Greenwood has a swollen ankle after that awful challenge by Romeu. Did anyone from Southampton even comment on that?

To be fair though. I'll be surprised if Lampard isn't going to rest his players in FA cup since he has Liverpool next. This won't matter much since both sides (us & them) are probably going to rest majority their players.

If we and Leicester drop points/lose tomorrow he may feel more confident putting out a strong squad on Sunday.

I hope we can play first 11. If not then rest Greenwood and Bruno. Play Pogba more advanced and see how that goes.
Martial and Rashford look fresh so resting them would be crazy.

Important match and we really need to win this. Palace are on a bad run but they are a dangerous team and with Zaha can definitely cause an upset. I'm not overly upset that we drew against Southampton, but I am concerned about our energy levels, lack of depth has meant that we have been forced into playing our 1st 11 for a few weeks and we looked like we had hit a brick wall against Southampton. So I think we will rotate the team a little bit for this and take the risk that it will be enough.

    DDG
    Wan Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Williams
    Fred Pogba McTominay
    Mata Martial Rashford
Would have loved to rest Wan Bissaka but I think Shaw will miss out so to keep as much stability at the back as possible, I think he has to play (though I think Williams will make it, maybe with face mask). Matic and Bruno to be rested, the energy of Fred and McTominay will be welcome. With Greenwood injured, then I would pick Mata over James.

If William's only problem is a cut, he'll start. If he's still being evaluated for a possible concussion, he won't.

Is Greenwood injured or am I misreading the interpretations of Ole's quotes? If no Greenwood or Shaw I'm going with this.

    DDG
    AWB - Lindelof - Maguire - Williams
    Fred - Pogba
    Bruno
    Rashford - Ighalo - Martial

James just is not what we need starting this match. We need a win.

Yeah if Greenwood can’t start or go tomorrow I would like to see Ighalo get a start, can move Rashford to the right. That or play Martial and Rashford up front as wide forward like Ole did when he first took over.

Greenwood out as well it seems.

I think we should start Ighalo and have Rashford & Martial rotating flanks. I just don't see that level of productivity with James/Mata etc.
