Feels like ages since we played. If martial is injured then definitely Sanchez lingard lukaku front 3. Though I think a martial or rashford might be needed for the threat in behind and running with the ball that lingard doesn't offer.

Any word on when Herrera will be back?

"Hi everyone, 10 days already since I got injured, I am much better and I have been working hard on my recovery.
"So thank you all for your messages and I hope you have a very good weekend. All the best."

Hope it's not a bad injury if he isn't involved tomorrow. We absolutely need all our attacking players for upcoming games, including this one.

I can actually see Mata starting this since he's not going to play against Liverpool. A trio of Sanchez, Lukaku and Mata with Lingard as a sub since we don't have Martial on the bench.

Big game this. If we win, we go 9 ahead of Chelsea with just 9 games to go so it's very likely CL next season.

Lingard does both very well, especially running in behind.

He runs off the ball but he's more the link player and not so much the in behind threat with great pace. He does it now and then, but it's obviously not his game. Sanchez does it too occasionally, but again, not his game. We played against Huddersfield I think with Lingard and Sanchez roaming behind Lukaku from the start and it was a pretty nothing performance attacking wise until we changed it up a little, as Lingard can often go missing when there's too much of that. Especially against smaller sides.

No Martial is annoying. Likely means this team I think:

    Sanchez Lukaku Lingard
    Pogba Matic McTominay
    Young Lindelof Smalling Valencia
    De Gea

    Good observation that.

Jose mentioned nothing about Martial in his pre game press conference. Maybe dropped?

The presser was on Friday. Could have got a training injury yesterday or today.

If he had been dropped, he would have been on the bench.

Of course. And what does it mean “dropped”? he started 3 out of the last 6.

Another CM and a new pair of fullbacks and this team is very dangerous.

Another CM to replace whom? McTomminay?

Why would we replace this lad in our starting line up the way he has been performing? We have Herrera as back-up too.

Agree that we need a RB as Valencia is coming towards the end of his career now. As for LB, I think Shaw could well step it up next season.

Because we need better than McTominay.

Because we need better quality in the centre of the park than McTomminay. He’s not a world class talent.

As for pinning your hopes on shaw, I wouldn’t count your chickens. He’s shown absolutely nothing in his career than points to him being a world class left back. In fact, I think he’s been absolutely shite for us. He’s not been amazing defensively and his output in terms of assists/chances/goals is pretty much laughable. Left back is the first position I would look to strengthen if I was Mourinho.

Do think we have a good squad at the minute mind, I just agree we need a couple of fullbacks and a centre mid.

It's a shame but it makes sense on every level with our current squad. We don’t have any proper wingers like a Sane and basically all our attackers are wide forwards with the exception of Lukaku.... Pogba was tearing it apart with 2 strikers up top at Juve and he can do the same here if we play this team.

You do know this is real life and not to be mistaken with Football Manager simulation. We do have players that can play as wingers. Martial, Lingard, Rashford, Sanchez, Valencia and Young can all play out wide. Yes, they will cut inside (so does Sane (a lot)), but this doesn’t make them inside forwards all of a sudden. When Valencia played on the right wing, he would either cut back inside or play down the line.

As for your second point, I agree that we look far more threatening with two strikers. Lukaku looks much much better when he has someone along side him, especially when Pogba occupies more advanced positions.

The three highlighted players are never wingers, they are wide forwards. Heck 2 of them are actually strikers who prefer to play through the middle.

Its been obvious for a few years that we lack true attacking width, especially on the right.

Because we need better than McTominay.

I disagree, providing he can keep up his current form, he looks like he’s cut out to be a marvellous tactical player. He also wears the shirt with pride - something money can’t buy.

Why do people assume that players are so one dimensional. I believe those players you highlighted are actually human and not robotic devices that can only be plugged in to do a certain job. They are flexible, they can play in an array of different positions on the field.

I don't. Why do you assume I do? They can play wide, they are never wingers though. I have eyes, I have watched both Rashford and Martial, IMO they are never wingers. They look like strikers who are playing in wide positions when they are playing wide.

No one said they cannot play in different positions on the field. The point is that they are not wingers, they don't play like wingers, its not just about cutting inside, its just not their game and especially with Martial and Rashford we have had a good 2 years to see that.
    Sanchez even longer.

    MOURINHO: WE BELIEVE IN RASHFORD
Jose Mourinho has been singing the praises of Marcus Rashford ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League trip to Crystal Palace on Monday night.

The 20-year-old forward has featured 38 times for the Reds in all competitions this season, with ten goals and eight assists to his name. When asked about Rashford’s progress, during a press conference to preview the Palace match, Mourinho responded positively and highlighted the youngster’s versatility.

The United manager said: “The good thing with Marcus is he can play in the three attacking positions so, even when he doesn’t start, to be on the bench is such a security for me and for the team.

“Marcus is a fantastic boy. He is also very grounded and, for sure, we love him, and we believe in him and he’s going to have the chances to keep developing.”

Rashford has not started for the Reds since the Emirates FA Cup win over Yeovil in late January, but the boss dismissed any talk of this affecting his England prospects in the lead-up to the World Cup.

“If the national coach trusts him, he selects him,” said Mourinho. “It doesn’t matter if he plays or if he doesn’t play.

“I don’t [verbally] reassure anybody, anyone. The main reassurance for Marcus is that he’s always selected [if available]. There is not one single match when he is not selected to start or to be on the bench.”

Last Wednesday was the second anniversary of Rashford’s Premier League debut, when his brace as an 18-year-old helped United to register a 3-2 win over Arsenal at Old Trafford.

That came just three days after he had scored two goals on his full debut against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League, and Mourinho feels the forward is sometimes a victim of that early success.

The boss said: “Because Marcus had such an impact in the beginning, probably people are expecting him to play even more than he does and score even more than he does and to perform even more than he does. But that’s not so simple.

“At his age, what he’s doing is more than enough, and the experience that he’s getting at every level is more than enough, for us to be happy with what we think is going to be his future.”

Embargoed part finished, talked about Rashford and Chelsea game. I was looking forward him telling us first 11, so I can finally have 11/11.

And this new guy on MUTV??? :wenger: Where there hell did they found him?

This should be three safe points for Man Utd with Crystal Palace's injury crisis in mind.

I assume that Mourinho is going to play close to his best XI.

Could see McTominay being given a more free-er advanced attacking role this game, if he's playing.
Alright, but why don't we simply offer that spot for a player we already know can assume that attacking role we're going to need?

For simply so that we won't have another ridiculous zero point Newcastle game probably. Dominate midfield together with Matic taking control of the game, stop and nullify their attacks totally, so our 4 attackers can feel comfortable and focus on shooting the Eagles with clinical goalss.

Likeliest lineup, if Martial is injured since Lingard made good impression last game.

Hopefully Martial starts though, his directness to goals and good chemistry with Lukaku are lethal.

Similar lineup and left-centric narrow no RM formation as Chelsea game? :D

We need to build good winning momentum.

Can't start soon enough.. i feel like this is gonna be an all-around impressive performance from the team, McTominay to score let's GO!

Mourinho praising a player before a game is like a kiss of death, means he won't start. Rashford's due to start some game soon, though.

Probably Brighton in the F.A. Cup, although I don't know if Jose be wanting to alter the team too much, especially now that we're in the quarters and have a very good chance of winning it.

I think we'll see Mata in this game rather than Lingard, Palace will likely sit deep and Mourinho tends to favour him against teams where we have a lot of the possession.
