Just seen their position in the table. This is gonna be a very difficult match then. Can see Palace players putting 200% of their efforts in this game. Hopefully we're up for it and do our job.

No Zaha is a lucky break. He always seems desperate to score against us to prove a point, though it hasn't happened for him yet.

Wow, CP sure have lots of injured players. Must be at least 4-5 starters there?

    Christ! He looks like DEATH!

I think this is an easy game so drop Martial for Lingard to give the former a kick up the arse and the latter a reward. Keep the same formation though to see if it has legs.

Easy game? They are in a relegation dogfight.

Easy game? They were unlucky not to beat city a few weeks back and unlucky not to get a draw with spurs last weekend. Two teams who have beaten us this season.

What's with his hair ? Looks like as if he has just woke up and straight to the presser.
Did you not see that pic with the ps4 controller? Obviously stays up late with Fifa online. Muppet probably spends a quarter of his wages on FUT

When last did we put a team to the sword?
Have we won any game comfortably this year?
Palace back in September was probably our most comfortable result this season.
Away from home is never comfortable, expecting similar to the Newcastle game here.

Did you even watch the Spurs game? If anything CP was lucky to still be in the game after 60 minutes.

Wonder what he does in FUT champions. Obviously has a team full of icons.

Same tactics that we've been seeing with a 3rd midfielder involved, maybe slightly different personnel up front - Rashford start? Would like Shaw back in. Won't be easy. Alexis could use a goal.

As they have been for months. Most shite teams do tend to be in relegation dogfights.

You make a good point sir :D personally, I'm wary of teams in their situation away from home during the business end of the season. In those games I just hope our team matches the opposition for hunger and desire.

It doesnt matter that Palace are near the bottom, like so many other teams they are game raisers against us.
They all seem to find this new form, maybe they are putting themselves in the shop window? who knows really?
So I expect a difficult game of breaking down a home team who would love a point.
Ill take 0-1 win for us all day long on this one, points rather than flair..just win the game boys.

I'm totally with Bob Geldof and Bon Jovi, but if the PL say, and Sky are prepared to pay we've got to play on a Monday......

    De Gea
    Valencia Smalling Lindelof Young
    Carrick McTominay
    Lingard Alexis Pogba
    Lukaku

Romero/Pereira, Darmian, Bailly, Shaw, Mata, Rashford, Martial

    The Glaziers 1
    Team Glazer 2

Ok, very serious question for mods here! Presumably this is first match day thread where UN peacekeepers will be used to monitor the comments.
Which poor sods have this unenviable task and will they be offered free counselling afterwards?
    Good luck guys.

Its been said a few times, but the match day thread has relaxed monitoring.

How can you drop or not play Lingard after his goalscoring display in our last match??

What about Lingard would you not start him?

Lingard is our second highest scoring player this season, so if we want goals from our team, and presumably we do, then surely it makes sense to start those that have them?

No second highest goalscorer in your team, why would that be?

Atleast you managed to get yourself a tagline ;)

If Chelsea don't win tomorrow, and we can put this lot away, that's quite a decent security zone. We may well need it the way Tottenham and Liverpool are picking up recently.

Is anyone struggling to be excited by league games at the moment? All just feels a bit pointless. Securing top four is very important though.

Can’t wait for the Sevilla game and the FA Cup tie but struggling a bit with these league games at the moment.

I am every bit as excited. Finishing above Liverpool and the rest is still important, and we have a fight on our hands for that.

Hope we beat Palace and go back to 2nd.

Mourinho will never give the fullbacks the licence to come forward and provide the width that would be needed with this formation.

It totally suits our squad though, just not our managers tactics.

Even with the right tactics, and the right fullbacks, it's incredibly hard to make that formation well balanced. Fullbacks alone can't provide quite enough width to be a big enough threat. Something like Valencia and Marcelo could work, but you'd still need the wider midfielders drifting wide all the time to help out or the forwards drifting wide the whole time. Diamond formation just isn't great which is why it's pretty rare to see.

    Like that.

Be a shame to drop Smalling, though, especially after his recent form. He's also our best defender aerially, which will be needed against Benteke, who has averaged the most aerials duels won per game (9.0) in the premier league.

I don't believe we're going to play without wingers tomorrow, i.e., we're not repeating Chelsea's formation.

It's a shame but it makes sense on every level with our current squad. We don't have any proper wingers like a Sane and basically all our attackers are wide forwards with the exception of Lukaku. With this system we get the best from Pogba and Sanchez who play in their best positions. Sanchez in particular scored over 25 goals for Arsenal last season playing in front and having him uptop with Lukaku is very good for the both of them. They are both hardworking strikers who'll run the channels and create space for Pogba and Lingard behind. Shaw will keep the width but needs to work very hard. Probably too hard which is why Jose won't go with it but with this formation I believe we can play some really good football. Pogba was tearing it apart with 2 strikers up top at Juve and he can do the same here if we play this team. Going into next season if we can get two fullbacks and a CM we'll be a real force to be reckoned with given Jose has already said we aren't signing any attackers in the summer.
