    Whether Fellaini or Di Maria are central shouldn't make a difference

    This isn't an isolated incident though is it? There is historicity in the dullness of our play. This is a significant trend.

    Yeah it looked like a 4132 with Carrick disconnected from the rest of the midfield (and Fellaini totally useless)
     
    We should get used to this style it's LVG style sometimes we will steam roll teams but normally we will try to have possess the ball the issue is if we win the leaugue next year with this style (which we won't) is that enough. Personally after watching this team for 30 years it is dissapoining that our players don't take risks especially at this type of team

    It seems like they have to follow orders and not show any initiative at all. Probably dropped Herrera for daring to think outside the box in the last round.
     
    What we're watching really isn't anywhere close to what you'd expect of a United team. Where's the threat? the pace? the fight? I knew SAF's retirement would be difficult, but these aren't shite players on the pitch. It's fecking baffling.

    Willing to be corrected on this, but I'm fairly sure the Southend game had at least 4-5 first XI players in the team; I distinctly remember Rooney, Ronaldo, O'Shea and Heinze starting but not sure about the rest.
     
    The only player who bothered me is Fellaini, he seems so useless.

    Well then he needs to work on his shooting. However you want to spin it, he hasn't been good enough since early in the season. There's only so much that you can blame the system for that.
     
    Also, we really are awful in first halves this season. Van Gaal really should look to change it, or tell them to take more risks. We've played lower league opposition 3 times this season, and haven't scored in the first half once.
     
    I wish we would switch to a formation that offers a bit more width. So easy to defend against narrow formations like the diamond and the 5-3-2 but of course our movement has to improve anyways or we will probably even look shit playing 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1

    No, these games just aren't as easy as you suggest.

    Shrewsbury had almost as many shots as Chelsea, this is the norm, not the premiership team smashing the weaker side.

    I'm as frustrated with the lack of genuine chances in that first half as anyone here. But I'm not going to go all mopey about things here. The problem is pretty much two-fold. Firstly, there is very little movement going on, especially up front. When we have the ball in the other half, Cambridge have set up with two banks of four across the box, giving us the freedom to play across the lines but not to directly attack. This is we need players like Falcao and and ADM to find themselves in the little pockets of space and the likes of Janujaz and Valencia to go beyond them. Only by picking out those little areas in between the two banks can we find the spaces for others to run onto. The second problem likes in the fact that we can't seem to play fast one-touch football. Meaning when we have the ball, we are too slow and give the Cambridge midfield time to reposition themselves across the lines. If we were to pick up the pace, they surely wouldn't be able to deal with constantly having to chase the pacier players or reposition themselves adequately. These two issues have been a problem for us this season.

    While I'm here, I wish to point out that Foy is an absolute clown who has no idea what he's doing and has made some baffling decisions. The BBC's coverage is truly embarrassing as well. Yes, we are facing a team who the neutrals will obviously favour but they are supposed to at least imply that they are impartial or at least play it up without being that blatant about it.

    And surely no-one would hold it against me if I wished that Overmars would accidentally chew off his tongue thus saving us from his infuriating bull?

    Television doesnt cover the best matches, it's the lowest ranked team who's at home v a premier league side to see the BIG UPSET!!!!
    Just spend all the time till the favourite scores talking about how the smaller side are just as good as them on the day and all these stats about how the premier league side are under pressure.
    It's just nonsense.

    Nah, that's just what happens when you push your defence forwards. CBs split and the DM slots in between them. When the other team has the ball, it's a 4 man defence with a DM in front of the CBs.
     
    The classic case of the tactics being implemented just don't suit the conditions of the game, or the skillset of players we've got out there
