I would imagine that if we have to sub off Matic or Fred, Andreas would drop back, and Lingard or Mata would come on.

Squad is what it is. Just hope we strengthen the midfield in January...but alarming lack of links to anyone.

Yeah there does feel like absolutely no links to any midfielders at all. Obviously they are relying on McTominay being back quickly or maybe we could see Fosu Mensah playing there when fit.

Scholes thinks the only way to beat United is to attack them and be aggressive. Has he even watched us in the past year? No wonder he didn’t last six weeks in management.

Really? The manager himself came and said he's keeping him out because he feels he's not ready yet for 2 games in a row. Just stupid and terrible reason to not even keep him as an option on bench. I hope for God sake it won't backfire on us.
Where's the comment? I'm sure he didn't make that decision on his own.

Says Pogba has played the last two after a long lay out, so they didn’t feel it would be right to include him again.

Where's the comment? I'm sure he didn't make that decision on his own.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Paul Pogba's absence for #MUFC at Burnley: "Paul has played in two games now and he's been out for a while, so we didn't feel it was right for him to participate today" (MUTV)

    Possibly.
    Definitely.

The physio decides who's available for selection.

    The manager decides who's selected.

Assuming that Pogba is good enough to be selected (which he certainly is), that must mean that his absence from the squad has been decided at a higher level than Solskjaer.

If you want evidence that this was a medical decision, not a sporting one, just look at the bench: there are zero other midfielder options on the bench. That's not a decision that any manager would willingly make.

Type 'Haaland to Man United' in Google and you'll roughly 25000 results :)

Pogba has been out for 3 months and it's the second match in 48 hours. Burnley would kick lumps out of him. Makes sense to leave him out so he's ready for Arsenal.

    Thanks. Stupid, idiotic decision!!
    Am I doing this right?

Yeah that was my thoughts as well, surprised to see Greenwood on the bench after recent performances too.

Just can't see Mata coming on and make a match turning impact like Pogba could. Really fear for us if we go behind with that midfield.

I also wonder what Tuanzebe has to do to get a chance ahead of Lindelof. I can see him getting bullied by that Burnley strikeforce.

I agree, Greenwood being in the form he's in is another big attacking threat missing. Certainly less confident now about getting three points than I was an hour ago.

Probably a big ask for Pogba to recover and then get match ready in 48 hours, especially being out for 2 months. That's a lot of work for the body. Right call.

He was on the bench less than 48 hours ago. Why not just keep him on the bench for today's game?
It's useless for us to speculate but I can only guess he should not have played 45mn at all. Maybe 25 or 15? But Scott being injured, the decision had to be taken. And now we need to manage the injury.

Sad not to see Greenwood in the starting lineup. Yes, we have a tight schedule, but he is not 30, I think he can manage to play two games in 48h.
As for the midfield, we are screaming for a signing, but nothing new about it...we can just keep repeating it

With this side it feels like we could get smashed tonight. Burnley will be up for it 100%.
Hopefully our attack can get some goals maybe even on the counter if they feel like they can dominate us.
Rashford and James need to step up though in terms of the performance. I know Rashford scored last time around, but his overall play was not that good.
If needed Greenwood could save us again from the bench.

    Thanks. Stupid, idiotic decision!!

I'm not sure why you are taking it that way. Tbh I like you as a poster so I don't want to get into a conflict with you, but surely I'm fine to say a manager's decision is a stupid one?

    Definitely.

    The manager decides who's selected.

Assuming that Pogba is good enough to be selected (which he certainly is), that must mean that his absence from the squad has been decided at a higher level than Solskjaer.

I'm fairly sure that this was a medical decision, not a sporting one. The evidence is in the fact he's not even on the bench, despite there being zero other midfielders on the bench.

I'd be inclined to go with that as it's the only reasoning that makes sense.

    Doubtful that's the reason.

Resting players for a big game is fine, but not having them as an option from the bench is outright bizarre. Especially since we have no midfielders on the bench at all now.
It wouldn't be the first time our coaching setup makes what seems to be crazy to us. I think they're overly cautious and logically so considering what happened last time.

Burnley must have thought santa had come for a second time in 4 days when they saw our team sheet.

They will be well up for this and rough us up. We only have ourselves to blame. The squad isn't good enough. 1 or 2 injuries and we look like a bottom half team. Years of bad transfers finally coming back to bite us.

Come on United! Important game this with Spurs dropping points and Chelsea playing Arsenal tom.

Ok, sorry for that, you're a good poster too, it wasn't my intention to get into conflict :) of course you can say that but as I said I'm sure he didn't decide that on his own but after consultation with our medical stuff, cheers.

Fair enough. Let's hope it will go well today.

Burnley pays 4.20 up. With Matic-Pereira-Fred starting, worth to try that. Not convinced about United at all.

I seen the lineup feck me but we're gonna lose:(
