I wouldn't have been totally shocked. The same thing happened under most of managers during their second season.
We looked really, really bad in pre-season friendlies. Then against Wolves. For me Brighton play like City-lite without the quality. They've had all of the ball for the half and really, only created one or two chances, largely from deflections from our tackles.

The point is it's absolutely worse if you don't invert. There's no discussion. It's current tactical meta for a reason.
We need to make a 3-2 in possession. You can take your pick of five players to make that from. The most common / the most flexible way to beat a press is to make it with the inverted fullback.

All season everyone talks about a massive squad clearout, and then when the season comes to an end they start making the case for keeping all the players they previously wanted gone as a "squad option". You see it in the Amrabat thread, the McT thread, AWB, Maguire, etc.Embarrassingly shit
Yeah. Signs have been there right from start of season.God I get so pissed watching Garnacho play. He keeps giving it away. He needs to learn to keep the ball in tight spaces. His technical level is very low and inconsistent. Coupled with his selfish plays and awful finishing. If he is a starting player for us next season we will be languishing again in the Europa league places. He should be a bench player. Amad’s touch and awareness and one touch passing is on another level.

I know, and I wasn't sold on ETH last season. But, I did expect an improvement. To finish in this league position with this level of performance is appalling. We've been played off the park too many times this season. Can't actually remember that many performances where we were the better team.
