A draw there and we put Pool at 5 points (with still the Chelsea game to play), Spurs and Villa at 10 points and Brighton at 11 points. Mathematically it would be fantastic for us to be 5 points ahead Pool tonight with still 5 games to play (meaning 2 more victories could be almost enough).

This game, and the West Ham one will be absoluetly vital then.

I'd happily take a draw now, easily. It's going to be a revenge match for Brighton as it was for Newcastle against United. And them coming off a finishing session against Wolves will have given Brighton more confidence.

But should be a good match.

im seeing a tight victory tonight. Maybe another 1-0. Perhaps a 2-1 victory. Just want to make sure we get out healthy and with some points. Get the win tonight and that pretty much wraps up top 4. I dont want to have to go in that last game needing any points to minimize freak results, so im not even counting that one in our overall games left.

A draw wouldn't be a bad result here; this is our toughest match remaining. Everything we do away to the top half turns out bad, though, so I'm nervous.

Hope AWB plays today since he had Mitoma sewn up last time.

    De Gea
    AWB - Lindelof - Shaw - Dalot
    Casemiro - Bruno
    Antony - Sabitzer - Sancho
    Rashford

Our toughest remaining fixture, would take a draw right now. I think Eriksen could do with a rest after his lethargic performance against Villa.

Bring Eriksen on at halftime, feels like we've been wretched to start the 2nd half too often lately.

I think it will be a cracking game... I give us a good chance, but I would take a draw, definitely. This is a tough match. But we can beat Brighton.

Just had to check this. We have one win (Fulham) and one draw (Spurs) in our 8 away games against the current top half of the Premier League. Yikes. Agree that any kind of points would be decent.

I thought Rashford would be too fast for Dunk in the cup game, but didn't really materialize. This game though, Brighton should have a lot of the ball, could be space for him to run in behind and at Dunk on the counter.

That win was a last minute goal too. Away against the top 10 we have been awful with some hammerings in there too.

To show how bad it is you just have to look at the amount of goals we have conceded compared to others around us and then remember we have conceded the lowest goals at home in the league

Just going to set my expectations for this match to zero. We have enough winnable games coming to stress over this result :nervous:

Toughest game left imo. A point would be good, a win fantastic.

With Wolves, Bournemouth, Chelsea and Fulham all basically having nothing to play for by the time we play them, I'm less worried about tonight's game than I might usually have been. We've put ourselves in a position where even defeat today keeps us well in the driving seat for top 4.

Your 2 points out on your points there, win tonight and we're 7 ahead of pool, and 12 ahead of spurs and villa, and 14 ahead of Brighton.

it is amazing how different the table will look with a win vs a loss today. Not necessarily order wise but just points gap/overall feeling.

Think most would take a draw, I think ETH doesn't do draws, I think he can pick an 11 to nick this tonight, it's a bit of a free hit with the games we got left. Game in hand over the scum who's somehow jammed there way into 5th.

a draw would be great result, definitely doable. Their home form isn't great if I recall correctly.

Tbh I’m looking at Brighton and West Ham games as 2 gimmes. If we get anything from them it’s a bonus as they are 2 games in hand. We are guaranteed 4 points ahead even if we lose both.

That leaves us with 3 of the last 4 games at home. We should be able to win the home games which is enough. Chelsea will be the easiest fixture of our season. If they ain’t raising their game for Arsenal, they defo ain’t raising it for us.

They had a lot of the ball in the final too, to be fair.
Yep 61% possession over 120 mins with the score level. Whether we like it or not, they dominated the majority of the game. But that was also in part to how ETH set us up to counter. It looked like a conscious effort to not do what Brighton wanted us to do which was press them high so they could beat the press which they do so well. Also, we had quite a lot of fixtures in that time which meant it made sense to absorb pressure and play on the break rather than consume energy.

Anyhow, I think we will play a similar game tonight. Probably won’t press them too high. Hit them on the counter again.

Newcastle was a bit different, McTominay and Sabitzer played instead of Casemiro & Eriksen. Also Weghorst started that one, think Martial will start this one.

The quality of players for United should be better, yes. But the mentality of Brighton will be similar to Newcastle, as they will have a chip on their shoulder.

EtH hit it right on the head...United have to match and exceed Brighton's focus and effort, especially at the start of away matches. I think, as it was the case against Brentford, this will be a great opportunity to see just how much United have progressed individually and as a team under EtH when you compare it to matchday 1 against Brighton at home.

People still look at Brighton and see them as a mid table team but the reality is their MF is as good as any in the league and they control games especially at home.

I feel we should let them have the ball and use Bruno/Eriksens threw balls to get us away on the counter.

I just hate that we have to worry about teams like Brighton. The Glazers I hate them so much.

Most probably will he same as SJP..we will shit our pants after 10 minutes.

I think too many think we have top 4 and Champions League qualification nailed. But it isn't. We are now just four points in front of Liverpool albeit with two games in hand. This is one of them but we are not favourites as we haven't beaten anyone in the top 10 away. We all know about our injury issues but we have to keep fighting.

I don't think we can underestimate how important it is to win with Liverpool waiting for us to slip up.

Every time I see posts like this they simply fail to mention the fact that there’s only a few games left. We’re going to run out of games soon.

Liverpool have only 4 games left even 4 wins will leave us needing 9 points from 6 games which with our home record we should easily get. Also Liverpool won’t win all there games

Win at all costs. Draw wouldn’t be a bad result but the win puts us in a very commanding position for top 4. Reckon ETH stick with the same side bar maybe Martial in for Sancho with Rashford back in his best position on the left.

    De Gea

    Wan-Bissaka - Lindelof - Shaw - Dalot

    Eriksen - Casemiro - Sabitzer

    B.Fernandes - Martial - Rashford

Butland, Williams, Maguire, Malacia, Fred, Antony, Pellistri, Sancho, Weghorst

    Brighton 0-2 Manchester United

We have six games left. If Liverpool win what they have left and they are hitting form at the right time, they'd be on 71 pts. We would then need 9pts out of the 18 pts left to play for to secure top 4 because Liverpool's goal difference is far better than ours.

If it goes according to the form of the last six games we should be OK. We have 13pts from the last six games and sit sixth in terms of recent form. Liverpool are 3pts better off in the form table and second only to City. That isn't enough to close the gap.

But we cannot rest on that.
