We should set up to make it hard for them, do not play open to allow counter attacks as that is their main strength. Just need a bit of discipline and no brain farts and we can more than match this lot.

Did the semi final not prove that tactically we can deal with Brighton?

They are a very good side and they have home advantage but we are capable of getting a result against them. A point would be fine and we have the luxury of almost treating this like a free hit as I expect us to beat West ham on Sunday anyway

Counters aren’t their main strength. They dominate the ball and possession in every game.

Can't see a clear reason we shouldn't realistically hope for a result here. Sure they're a good team and we're not generally at our best playing away, but we're in pretty strong form and are the better team, all in all. Could go either way.

If we lost every game the Caf declares we’re ‘nailed on’ to lose, we’d probably be in Brighton’s position.

Here’s to hoping for a huge upset of Manchester United beating Brighton.

No, just a United fan who knows we are a better team than Brighton.
We're better but they've had the extra days rest and are at home to boot.

I fully expect a draw or a Newcastle esque defeat but you never know. If we play properly we win

So you reckon we could win, lose or draw then? I’ll take that bet.

Why is it a thing on the Caf that the optimists try to pretend they aren't the clear majority of posters?

Even now, look at the predictions - United win has the plurality. And that's ahead of a really tricky away game at a top 8 side, with United having a 0-1-5 record in those games this season.

The Caf is a predominantly positive and optimistic football forum where a large number of users get some kicks out of pretending everyone is pessimistic and negative. You people just can't tolerate differing opinions from us less confident folks.

I'd take a draw here as it keeps Brighton at arms length. I don't expect Liverpool or Brighton to be able to win all of their remaining fixtures and I think one (or both) of them would have to do that in order to overtake us. On top of that, despite Newcastle being in great form, it's arguable that it would be them at risk of dropping out of the Champion's League positions and not us anyway.

Spurs and Aston Villa are out of the running since we took points off them both - they can only attain 66 Points at max. We are on 63 with six games remaining, Newcastle on 65 with five remaining.

Brighton's fixtures are IMO too difficult to expect them finishing on anywhere near their maximum potential points - even with a victory in this game. They have to go away to Arsenal, Newcastle, and Aston Villa. Their home games include Everton and Man City, plus a potential gimme against Southampton if they're done by then (although who knows this season?).

Still, let's hope we can just do things a bit easier as a win here all but secures top four for my money. The teams below us will not get 70, so I really think we only need 7 Points from Brighton, West Ham, Wolves, and Bournemouth. Ideally we get there in three games!

Liverpool have an easy run in they will win all 5. 3 home fixtures and Leicester and Southampton away.

They have Fulham, Brentford, and Villa at home so not necessarily easy games IMO, Leicester might be dangerous too. Still, even winning all of their games is only 71 Points. We would have to drop 10 of the available 18 points to let them in on GD. They're in good form on paper now, but I'll be surprised if they went on a run of nine wins in total. They've been far too inconsistent all season.

We play West Ham who still need a win (they will get it later, probably not against Man City or us). Wolves, Bournemouth (safe), Chelsea, and Fulham. I will be surprised if we don't get 11 Points. Chelsea and Fulham are two good home games to end the season on as I'd fancy them to be playing for nothing by then.

Newcastle has Arsenal and Brighton themselves, along with Leeds & Leicester who will be fighting like mad to stay up. Don't normally want those games at the end of the season. I'd say they're more at risk than us personally... But I think they will probably get at least 72 as well.

Really tough game. A point would be good.

    We're fecked, aren't we ?

This has scouser Debbie Hewitt's hands all over it. If I'm ETH I don't play Casemiro. He was involved in both Casemiro's red cards. He sent off him against Palace after looking at one angle still frame and then was on VAR and told Antony Taylor that it was a red against Southampton, when a day before this cnut Marriner who was the ref ignored a clear stamp that should have been a red in a match.

I’m putting money on a Casemiro red on Thursday. Can’t wait to be told it’s probably a red then every similar tackle goes unpunished as is the way

For the pessimists: you had us Lösung against Villa. We actually outsmarted and outplayed them.

It is time we put these bad away performances behind us. I expect full commitment/effort. We neutralize them and have our attackers make the difference.

    Believe

Ya let’s drop him because of a certain ref been in charge
Are we better off just forfeiting the game and taking a 3-0 defeat ?

Who's this Losung guy? Can he play striker?

Hoping to see Garnacho back in the squad for this. I just watched a behind the scenes video on him signing the contract. It’s class. Can’t wait to see how he progresses

We will get a result no worries.
Out of interest. Let this fact sink in Martial earns the same in 8 weeks than Mitoma would earn from his whole 4 year contract as it stands.

I would feel much more confident IF we didn't have that record of not beating someone in the top half away since Fulham

I don't really get why he's dropped AWB the last 2 games. I thought we looked decent with him and Dalot on opposite sides.
Because he started half arsing against Spurs

AWB didn't get drop 2 games. He got dropped against Aston Villa because AWB got a beating by Spurs, and played lethargically.
