Well Mkhitaryan should play against Blackburn. If he plays against St. Etienne, there will only be 4 Days till the final. Better if he plays this Sunday and then has one week till the Southampton match, perfect. Not playing in either of the matches before the final can make him lose form.
If he was ill yesterday he probably won't be in great shape on Sunday either.

    DDG
    Fosu Bailly Rojo Shaw
    BFS Herrera
    Lingard Mkhitaryan Rashford
    Rooney

One thing I'm glad about is our congested schedule simply means more games. I love that and wouldn't have it any other way.

Hopefully we see the likes of TFM, Shaw and Bastian start this game. Maybe Rashford too, just to give Ibra a bit of a rest, but maybe it's better that Ibra plays this one then rests in the return leg of the Europa. Martial to continue, and Micky to be involved at some point please to maintain rhythm.

    Romero
    Darmian Jones Rojo Blind
    Herrera Schweinsteiger
    Mata Pogba Mkhitaryan
    Rashford

    For me.

So many games to look forward to and still so much to play for. Well done Jose. Keep up the good work. Love that the games are coming thick and fast now.

How accurate is our "Team News" from page 1? Joel Pereira out injured. Henrikh Mkhitaryan (illness), Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick (both minor muscular problems) and Phil Jones (recovering from injury) doubtful.
    This was the case for St Etienne but now? If so;
Does Jose give Romero back to back? He has alternated him & DDG in the Europa so maybe. If not DDG plays back-to-back?

It's "only" Blackburn but we can't afford any embarrassment negatively affecting our run of unbeaten games (Still not counting that 2nd leg at Hull :-)

I think Smalling will be paired with Rojo for this one.
Darmian will give Valencia a break at RB but LB is a big question mark; Home game: play Shaw!
    But then what?
We probably won't need a shield for the back four but either Carrick or Schweiny will play? I'm picking Schweiny if Carrick IS injured for this one
Herrera has to play, Pogba will too and maybe Lingard gets another crack as a 4th midfieder after his very reasonable display again St Etienne.
Up front will see Martial & Rashford.

    Effectively then it's a 4-4-2 or 4 in a diamond in midfield?

It's based on what we know at the moment, I'm surprised the pre-Blackburn part of Mourinho's post-SÉ press still hasn't been released. Rooney & Micki pictured getting to Carrington today, so if Micki gets his fitness up after being sick, he might play, wasn't probably anything serious as he was only out for one day. As for Carrick and Jones, the last news we've heard are the ones prior to the Saint-Étienne match; Carrick with a minor muscular problem, and Jones still recovering.

We should be fielding a complete 2nd string side, bar maybe two players.

I'd start Schweinsteiger, TFM, Romero, Lingard, Rashford and Shaw.

Bailly and Smalling are the only two regulars we should be starting with.

Why on earth would be piss about with the lineup in this game, when we can do our main rotating in the Europa second leg?

Unless anyone is particularly knackered and needing a rest, i'd probably play most of Thursday's crew.

Then rotate heavily on Wednesday, leaving them all fresh for the cup final.

Is Rooney still sick? Had more sickness than a pregnant woman this season

Get used to it. It's the easiest way of saving face for all.

I thought he'd actually been..ahem, "rested" from Thursday though.

Because it's a squad game. We can play a weakened team for both. There are a lot of games coming up. A lot. Now is a good time to make sure that key players are fresh for the final 3 months of the season.

45 minutes for one or two players on Weds ahead of final will keep them sharp.

Does anything make you think he'd rest Ibra and Pogba for both Sunday and the Europa 2nd leg?
    Can't see it at all.

I just hope he doesn't surprise us all and do no rotation for Wednesday. That'd be mad.

Thanks ... so maybe consider Rooney and Mkhi for Blackburn?

    Exactly.
I think many fans are showing disrespect to Blackburn thinking that we can walk over them with ease, using our 2nd string team.
This is the FA Cup and upsets happen. And it would be embarrassing if we lost to Blackburn 1-0 because Jose got complacent and fielded a weaker team.

We will play with our full strength team. Absolutely no doubt about this.

From Ibra and Pogba's post match comments, they're both expecting to play Wednesday.

It's nothing to do with disrespect. They are just as bad as Wigan who we comfortably beat. It's probably 4th in the list of priorities.

If a second string side consisting of full internationals and one or two promising players hoping to make the grade one day, can't beat Blackburn Rovers, then they don't have much of a future at the club. It's a good opportunity to use the full squad and give chances to those in need of games.

There is no absolutely about it. We didn't in the last two rounds.

No chance mate, dream on. The theory behind playing weakened teams or 'second string' is that you play them when the outcome of the match is irrelevant. We won't get a second chance against Blackburn (unless a draw obviously) so we need to get the job done on Sunday. The return leg against Saint-Etienne is at their place. We all know that anything could happen in 90 minutes. Play a strong team on Wednesday, get a goal or two, then we can start hauling players off.

Thankfully Mourinho approaches each game with the right mentality. Look what happened to Liverpool in the space of a week. I'd be gutted if that happened to us. There's plenty of time to rest between matches.

There's no way we're playing our full strength team. Jose has said that a few players will be rotated, so I'm expected a mixed team of nailed on starters and squad players.

We want to win this game but we also need to use other players in the squad. It's a perfect time for around 4/5 of them to get some game time.

If we go out against Blackburn, nobody will care. It's a nothing game compared to the bigger prizes at stake. A bad performance by a second string side will tell him more about his squad than a 4-0 win featuring Pogba and co.

Who said I didn't want a strong team on Wednesday? I've already said take of two key players after 45 mins. 6 regulars will be enough to get the job done. Any goal scored by us kills the tie.

If Mourinho approached every game with the right mentality, we wouldn't be dragging our balls behind Chelsea. I don't care if we lose on Sunday. It's irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

No. There won't be any if we lose the League Cup final and/or the second leg either.

    Your point?

People will be pissed if we lose the final. Everyone knows the risk of attending an FA Cup game since 2007. We often play youngsters and rotate.

Would we like to win and progess? Yes. Should we lose, is it a devastating blow? Nope. Securing elite European football is paramount. The FA Cup is only going to get harder from the next round on anyway. I'd prefer to see guys like TFM plays instead of stagnating.

This is correct, BUT it's not the same as 'no one cares'. Plenty of people, myself included care greatly. Thankfully I think Mourinho does care too so expect to see a strong line up.

For sure, but I still cherish the FA Cup much higher than the League Cup. It's a nice draw, I'd be gutted if we lose.

I actually prefer The League Cup. It's been a more entertaining spectacle for almost a decade now.

The game being played during midweek helps. The FA Cup lost its gloss along the way.

Saw the presser. Rooney unlikely to be involved. Any truth to the transfer stories?
