I am reluctant to put up our best XI as I think it is better serve to do well in the Premier League. If Barcelona comes at us and lead 2-0 at half time. I would raise the white flag and remove key players in a 2nd half so we can deal with Leicester on Sunday. There is no shame to give it a go and leave to fight another day. I will put in a reserve team for the return leg mainly giving a youngsters a shot at Barcelona. Garnacho, Pellestri and etc. I am happy with 3rd and the league Cup win.

I was of the opinion ETH won't start WW next match. However looking at how limited our forwards options are he'd start I think. Elanga has been poor and Garnacho has been better from the bench. Plus it's a tough match you'd need some experience there.

The United web-site doesn’t have Brandon Williams listed. Did you get this from elsewhere?

I got it from the United website/app earlier, but I have just checked again and it's been updated from 22- to 21-players with Brandon removed.

So, yeah, no Williams now for whatever reason. Was maybe a mistake in the first place. Either way, he'd probably have been the least likely outfield player to get on the pitch anyway!

    Indeed! Was just being pedantic.

Could be as a British homegrown player under a certain age he doesn't need to be listed - but have no idea really

I actually think Rashford starts down the middle for this one. Sancho right, Garnacho left. Simply because Barca will probably play a high line which will suit Rashford and Garnacho.

Can’t see us winning this tie, which might be a good thing considering how thin our squad is and fighting in all comps still.

Barcelona are playing really well and have a way better midfield than us.

Ffs only just seen the kick off time. I’m going to have to rush away from work to the nearest pub to catch the game. So annoying it’s not at 8 like normal!

It's great for those of us going to the match as we'll get out of the ground at a decent time before being marched in the opposite direction to where we want to go!

Barcelona changed its formation to 4 midfielders, since then the team is more compact and comfortable on the field.

With possession Barcelona plays an asymmetrical formation.

    ..................... Ter Stegen

    ... Koundé..... Araujo..... Christensen

    ................ FDJ........... Kessie
    .............................................................. Balde
    .................Pedri.............. Gavi

    Raphinha..........Lewa..

Balde has freedom and the entire left wing to attack. And when Baldé goes up, Kessie covers the band.

Pedri has more freedom of movement and is closer to the area.
FdJ can also carry the ball as he did at Ajax because he has Kessie guarding the position.

Gavi when pressing goes from the middle to the left wing.
Xavi found an ecosystem where each player is more comfortable and that improves the balance of the team.

Thanks for the detailed reply. If I was on the other side I'd be slightly worried that Kessie won't be able to do the same defensive work Busquets does (mainly though his positional sense) and that if United play Rashford wide left, which seems maybe unlikely, you might be a bit exposed there.

On the other hand, we've got plenty to worry about. I just hope we can play in your final third for a respectable amount of time and that we are clinical when we get to break. It is a worry that there is no Martinez to help progress our play and no Shaw at left back.

A draw would be a lovely result tomorrow.

Weghorst offers nothing here, not gonna be a low block instead we need that body in midfield. Even lindelof so Fred can stay further up and be a pest to de Jong

Feck a draw, we batter them. Let them pass the ball around we‘ll hit them fast in transition.

    So stoked for this.

I really don't care for europa that much especially if we could have a run at the league however unlikely but beating these lot is a must.

Tomorrow will be a very interesting game to watch from the tactical aspect. Two coaches who propose the same style of play. I think that Barcelona will dominate possession of the ball a little more, but United will be very dangerous with the ball behind the Barcelona defenders.

If United gives Ten Hag more time and some signings that he asks for in the coming years, they will be a very competitive team.

And my apologies for putting so many posts answering people who don't deserve it for different reasons. From now on I will only talk about football and if people want to swallow all kinds of fake news then... there are them.

WTH Sabitzer is suspended as well? FFS we're going to get massacred with all those suspensions and injuries.

Play the 2nd team here. We have a huge chance at the league yet ten Hag doesn't seem to believe it.
Go all out for the PL and League cup final, play the backup squad in the Europa and Fa Cup.

I'm not sure what team EtH would put out. I kinda hope he puts out our 2nd stringers / reserve players in the hope we get a 0-0.

    So something like...

    DdG

    Malacia
    Lindelof
    Maguire
    AWB

    Casemiro (needs the match practice)
    Scott (if fit)

    Garnacho
    Bruno
    Sancho

    Wout

keeping a clean sheet at camp nou will be difficult but not impossible. Barca not having dembele will help and Lewa is out of form lately.

Limiting pedri and de Jong will be the real key.

We should go with 3 midfielder and Bruno on the right side. We need to stay in the game till 60-70 min

Switch Weghorst to number 10 and put Rashford on top when game is stretched and put on Garnacho.

Being a rather casual observer of La Liga, I only just noticed that Barcelona have conceded just seven goals this season. That's pretty impressive.

Is this mostly down to them dominating the ball so much, or are their defenders really good? I'm a fan of Andreas Christensen, the rest I'm not too aware of.
They ended up conceding something like 13 goals in 6 CL games though.

If you start Weghorst uptop, may as well leave Bruno and Rashford on the bench, until the time to experiment Weghorst in no10 role again.

Leeds main weapon is pressing and it was not an easy game until Rashford move up top. This Barcelona may be far from their Champions League powerhouse version, but they're way capable of keeping possession and drain your best players stamina if you handicap yourself by playing a CF who can't offer any against a high line.

Doing the same thing as with Leeds here may as well as accepting defeat from the first minute.

I am not confident in this game, I think xavi and barca are a year ahead of us in regards to transition. I hope we just give it a go and if we lose, focus on the outside chance we have of winning the title and hopefully a cup.

Just noticed we don’t even have 3 fit midfielder to play. We have to play either Garnacho or Weghorst from the start as we don’t have the option.

Just play Garnacho. At least with pacy player, you may get some on some counter.

Play Weghorst up front and Barcelona would be both keeping the ball, and using a high line to pretty much tactically erase him from game.

Even this hard working, pressing no 10 Weghorst would not be any use. Beside tactic, Barcelona happened to have some of the most press resistant midfielder.

It had to with do Leeds lack of ability than Weghorst as no 10 turning into prime Darren Fletcher.

Maybe ten Hag will be tempted to start Rashford upfront and Garnacho on the left? Shaw will definitely start as CB so I'm confident with that Varane-Shaw partnership but upfront I dont see us scoring besides Rashford.

A draw would be a pretty good result, it'll be interesting to see how much have we really improved under ten Hag mentally. Will we set up like underdogs waiting to hit on the counter like Mourinho and Ole? or will we try to impose our football?

As it stands the bookmakers have us at 20/1 to win the title, an implied probability of 4.76%. ETH would be correct not to have much belief in that "huge chance". The aim in the league was and still is top four.

Conversely we're 6/1 to win the EL, an implied probability of 14.3%. If the man wants trophies then this is a more likely avenue. And trophies aside, it's a European tie against Barcelona. Of course he's going to field his strongest side.

Dreadful. This could turn out to be our PSG moment by the way, though I wouldnt mind getting knocked out if only because I prefer Saturday kick offs.
