    Team should be...

    ------------De Gea------------
    Dalot--Smalling--Lindelof--Young
    -------------Fred-------------
    ---McTominay----Andreas---
    ------------Pogba------------
    -----Lukaku------Rashford-----

Subs: Romero, Darmian, Rojo, Mata, Lingard, Martial, Greenwood

In fairness, practicing set pieces comes with an opportunity cost of not training other skills that are more useful for the rest of matches during open play. I wouldn’t want us to spend that much time on them, but what I do find disappointing is A) how we seems to lack any sort of direction on them and players are seemingly left to their own devices, and B) how none of our players have the ability to deliver a decent ball with any regularity.
As a means of attacking efficiently, set pieces are a great option against all calibre of opponents. For what is essentially a limited team going forward, set pieces should be higher priority.

I hope we go out there with a got nothing to lose attitude and attack from the start than contain.

Getting a first goal here will be huge. The fear of conceding a second will make Barca nervous as well.

What I wouldn't give for a PSG esque early goal.

long shot but so was PSG..... will be a minor miracle if a misfiring United keep Messi out again and score twice based on our recent performances

    ---------------------------De Gea-----------------------------
    Dalot-----Smalling-------Lindelof------Darmian
    ------------------Fred----Scott---Pogba----------------
    -------Rashford--------Lukaku-------Martial--------

not having Young in my lineup - big responsibility on Pogba/Fred helping fullback out

Well, look at it this way: if we manage to score twice, we don't HAVE to keep Messi out: he can score one!

I think Ole will replicate the system from the first leg with Jones replacing Shaw.

Christ that line up... if we get a result it will overtake the PSG game as greatest underdog win.

Apparently Shaw has travelled with the squad. Face / Off with Young?

Barca will have their full strength lineup this time and replace Coutinho with Dembele. They also rested all of their key players, while last week they played Atletico on Saturday.

    Shaw is banned?

Yeah but he's still with the squad, to be there!

Sanchez is a surprise to me.

I hope Ole doesn't throw in Matic. Fred and McTominay deserve to start.

Ole said before the first leg that Alexis would be available and may even get a run-out against West Ham.

Fred and McT must start, must

That's quite complimentary of them resting their key players considering how shit we are:lol:

The starting 11 to beat Barca.

    De Gea
   -----------
    Pog-Herrera-Fred
    Rashord--Martial

I know he's not everybodies cup of tea, in fact it's rumoured even his parents prefer coffee, but i'd be tempted to start Darmian at right-back as he's the only fullback we've got disciplined enough to stay with Alba(which will be key to us winning the match), and play Ashley Young on the left.

They got knocked out by Roma last year winning the 1st leg 4-1 and Valverde got criticised a lot for how he handled squad rotation.

Same approach as PSG, try to get to HT with 0-0. Scare them with a few counters and anything can happen in second half.

Darmian hasn't played a game in months - and you'd start him in the Nou Camp?

Also, we will need some sort of attacking threat going forward from our full backs you'd think...

What is it with all these shit jokes in this thread ?

Back to the game. We have our chances. you can' tknow what can happen. We not a second tier team as well....

PSG yesterday got they a**** handed to them 5-1.

the first goal will define the game. stay tight, get the first goal and from then on, they'll still be favourite be we would have big chances of causing an upset.

Lyon was in the tie until the last third of the game ...

    Let's believe people!

I don't see how this is relevant to this game.

With one major difference, the return leg was in Italy but you do make a good general point, it's been a while since they've been in the semis for them so they're taking all the precautions they can

My m,ain concern for this game is our fitness level. I hope we will be fresh enough for the Camp Nou. Last week we had a week of rest and still lost to a Barca side which was barely walking. This time around we need to be at our best physically, as the Catalonians will be faster than they were at the Theater of Dreams.

I'm bit lost.. I want us to win and go to semis, but Liverpool... eh..
On the other hand I want us out, so we can concentate on getting to top 3, and I think Barca has bigger, better chances to win Liverpool.
Then again I want us to win Barca and Liverpool and Juve and CL.

I think I need professional help..

You should never want us out, whatever the reason.

You want us to go out of the CL so we can concentrate on getting back into the CL next year. Makes perfect sense.

Yeah, that's one of the most weird ideas I've been reading from EPL fans in the last... ¿decade?. "We shouldn't try to win the UCL, so we can focus on getting a spot in next year's UCL".

I'd get the idea if we talked about Everton, Leicester or West Ham, UCL generates revenue in the long term to help the club get to the next level, but United, City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal or even Tottenham should try to qualify for the sake of winning the trophy, anything else is absurd.

I really don't get that logic. Especially at this point if be get past Barca it's just 3 games left to win the trophy.

It's even less understandable for the likes of Everton or West Ham. These clubs won't get to the "next level" without City-like investment so if they ever make it to the Champions League, it should be their number one priority regardless of everything else. After all, they're unlikely to make it back again so they should enjoy the experience.

Leicester certainly didn't rest their best players for the CL ties back in 16/17, despite being dangerously close to the bottom of the Premier League table at the time.

Even though most people are expecting us to lose perhaps it should be noted that we are going into this game similar to the PSG game with no pressure. Seeing both PSG and Barcelona play at Old Trafford convinced me that Barcelona are more rattled in their play when pressed high up the pitch. Despite losing to Barca I think there were positives in the play after we started to press them so just go at them, do not let them start their rythm by playing the ball out of defence. Playing with the freedom of no expectations should help and Fred and McTominay were impressive in Paris and again at Old Trafford against Barca. I think we will give them a game.

We ought to have them not wanting to fully attack but also a little nervous at the back like against PSG. I.e. 1-1 with a 15mins to go would be perfect.

We need to make better use of our set pieces and take any chances we get on the counter. Young should be banned from taking free kicks. We should probably use Fred instead.

    Go something like:

    de Gea
    Lindelof -- Smalling -- Jones
    Dalot -- McTominay -- Fred -- LWB
    Pogba
    Rashford -- Martial
    1. Have Pogba sit on Busquet to try limit building from the back.
    2. Dalot, VNL and McT to mark Coutinho/Dembele and their LB.
    3. Jones and LWB to focus on Messi.
    4. Pogba to fall back into a midfield 3 when we under pressure.
    5. One of the strikers to rotate falling slightly deep to build up with the other striker looking to stretch the defense.

Not a hope in hell of going through.. I almost want players rested for the run-in but resting doesn't guarantee a decent performance. Like to see Mason Greenwood on the bench

You have forgotten the PSG game already? I know Barca are better but with a bit of luck we can do it.

Got a bad feeling about this and hope I’m proven massively wrong. Of course, never underestimate Man Utd but reckon they will have too much for us over there. Plus I’ll be astonished if we kept Messi as quiet as we did in the 1st leg.

    Starting XI:

    De Gea

    Dalot
    Lindelof
    Smalling
    Jones
    Young

    McTominay
    Fred
    Pogba

    Rashford
    Martial

    subs:

    Romero
    Darmian
    Bailly
    A.Pereira
    Mata
    Lingard
    Lukaku

    Score prediction:
    Barcelona 2-0 Man Utd

    Goalscorers:
    Messi X2

We have to go there with belief. This Barca are nowhere near the great sides and with a bit of luck we can nick a win. Need Pogba and everyone really to produce their very best. That said, probably 3-0 to them.

Im not all that confident for this one at all considering our full back issues and current lack of form ...And we're not gonna have the ball anywhere near what we had at Old Trafford. So i can see our forwards getting very few touches.

Could have been doing with Herrera for this one
