I'm not opposed to the idea of trying something like this - the RB spot has been a problem for some time now. Rangnick seems like a good judge of ability and he's clearly noticed something in training that he likes, so bring it on.

Lindelof at RB is a bit odd but he's played well of late and clearly RR doesn't rate Dalot too much defensively and nor do I think he rates AWB at all.

Disagree. I fully believe it's a 3-5-2. He wanted Sancho to continue to play, because he's in such good form. He will play at RWB. I think McT being unavailable has encouraged him to change formation. Fred is not a #6. He's gone with an additional CB to help protect the defence.

I remember. The first time while trying to be a link Rashford made every wrong pass possible and the 2nd time Rangnick shifted him to the right 10 minutes in because he was repeating all the same mistakes. This time we might play on the counter, it looks like a somewhat versatile lineup and we aren't at home and don't have to play on the front foot.

I imagine we will start as a 4 at the back but in possession Luke Shaw will push up very high and lindelof will shuffle over to make 3 at the back.

We will essentially be playing 3-5-2

Mate, all Man Utd official sources, app etc, show the usual 4-3-3. Would be bonkers for all of them to show misinformation like that.

9/11 mctom must be injured, and didn't predict the lindelof at RB curveball, but glad to see we have plenty of attacking talent on the pitch hopefully we start on the front foot and playing brave football, get after them early put them under pressure.

Crazy how weak our bench has become. No Cavani, Martial on loan and the other guy done. Athletico have game changers on their bench they can bring on. It's going to be an interesting tie for sure.

Just hope that our players and ref don't get suckered into the theatrics I fully expect from these lot.

None of that means anything. They're wrong plenty of the time. It could very well be a 4-3-3, but I expect 3-5-2.

Feel Athletico are the one team you really don’t want to press if you’re not good at it, that’s basically their game plan, sit in and soak up pressure to make space for a counter. I know Simeone has been trying to go more offensive this season but, given how their season has gone, I fully expect classic Athletico tonight.

I also think this could be good. It's nice to have a manager willing to change things in a big game. Show the opposition something a little different which hopefully they won't be prepared for.

I like this idea. At least Ralph is trying things and you can understand the decision. Actually gives us a lot of flexibility - Lindelof is much better defensively than either Dalot or AWB, he’s also good on the ball and has a decent pass. I’d say he’s more likely to hit a good cross or ball down the line that either of our full backs. Then, we also have the option of 3-5-2 in defensive situations, he’ll that could even mean either him or Shaw move in to a DM spot and Rashford/Sancho cover the wide areas
