You bring up Eriksen who has similarly not had a game that’s notable for anything good or bad, and I don’t disagree with that assessment, but the big difference in the two is that Eriksen has tried to open them up, played some lovely balls and had a few cut out. What's there to agree with. Eriksen actually does things. He can switch play, he can do one two''s. He provides a consistent option for Case and the 2 CB's. VDB doesn't press, doesn't do anything with the ball, doesn't dribble, doesn't do key passes, doesn't shoot. He has 0 contribution. I can bet he has the least touches on the pitch.

I get Ten Hag usually going with Eriksen and Bruno in the line-up, its to control possession, but I've always felt uneasy defensively. I feel like we need a more tenacious midfielder to help Casemiro and the back four up. We need a technically sound player in there, but one that's also a dog. Today we have VDB who, to me eyes, seems to run/work less than Bruno so it makes it easier for Villa. Ideally, we'd get another midfielder in, and alternate between Bruno/Eriksen as attacking midfielder.
