Ronaldo is only playing because we are desperate with injuries. If everyone is fit, ETH would absolutely have Ronaldo sat on the bench.
You think this is the reason for ETH’s pragmatic approach regarding Ron’s punishment?

Absolutely. There’s no doubt ETH would happily ship out Ronaldo if we had alternative options. ETH is biting the bullet until he can get an adequate replacement. It makes no sense for him to rock the boat during a time he needs him.

What are the odds Ronaldo strops off again between now and when he actually leaves? Low if hes gone in January, high if we are stuck with him until summer. Like you say if the other lads are fit Ten Hag is keeping him on the bench.
If Ronaldo is here till the end of the season, there is more drama to come. There’s no way his ego will allow him to happily play a bit part role.

Unfortunately, I feel we will have no option but to try and keep him till the end of the season as I don’t see us being able to sign a high calibre striker of the quality that we need in the January window.
For us to finish the second half of the season (which is going to be even more hectic than the first half) with just Rashford and a injury prone Martial would be suicidal and potentially detrimental to next seasons ambitions.

I have that feeling myself… I definitely think he would have acted differently and stronger without the injuries. Now he had to take the pragmatic approach.

Not sure what you mean acted stronger?

He dropped him and had him train with the youth team. Ronaldo apologised and was reintegrated.

Ten Hag was never going to freeze him out for the season.

Our rivals playing each other won't mean anything unless our players do their job.

Ronaldo does not need to be freezed out
He is not the main man anymore but can still be a useful squad member till January or July if he accepts it

No he showed the pragmatic approach. For me that was the right choice in this situation. Acting stronger would be, as example, a long suspension for a player who disrespects the coach twice in a short time.

0-0 wouldn’t surprise me. We’ve been pretty solid and generally dominating possession but not scoring much.

If there’s a goal in the game it could go either way but surely we are the more likely winners here, even if we fear otherwise.

Did he actually apologise? I haven't been keeping fully up to date the last couple of weeks but I never saw anything saying he actually had. There was his statement that didn't apologise then I saw a few comments about Erik's going to do this and Ronaldo's got to do that but I never saw anything confirming he had actually done any of it. Did I miss the confirmation or is it just taken that he did as Erik's had no option but to involve him again?

Any news on the squad for this? Don't we usually have some place reporting it the night before away games?

I just realized we are now on 7 games without conceding a goal from open play. You have to say that is impressive especially when that run includes Newcastle, Tottenham, Chelsea and West Ham. The best part is that it doesn't necessarily depend on a Van Dijk at the back. It's been mostly defending as a team which is more sustainable.

True, but you'd have to admit that Martinez and Casemiro have helped immensely in this regard and without them we may see a different scenario.
Yeah but I can't think of a single impressive defensive record that doesn't come with one or two significant contributors. It's all part of the course. I still think it's a very impressive achievement especially when it has been done mostly through controlling games and not resorting to having to defend and deep. Sure De Gea made some big saves but so does Neuer, Alisson, Ter Stegen and Courtois regularly. We are defending as a team the best we did in years and the clean sheets show it which is really encouraging,

    No Bruno, Antony, Martial, Sancho

Its going to be tough with all the injuries/ban, but I think we can nick a win.

Hope we give another start to Garnacho.

    No he hasn't.

Where did you hear that the last 3 are definitely out?
The last 3 being out is still speculation. Last we heard about them from Ten Hag was when he was still in Spain post La Real game where he said he still has to wait for the medical team to clear them and he'd find out more once he gets back to Manchester.

Yeh I thought so alright, so just the usual caf thing of some posters jumping the gun.

I’m fully prepared for us to hit a speed bump and draw this game, as well as Coutinho turning up giving the game of his life before heading back into obscurity for six months.

I am absolutely sure they’ll bring up the stat that he hasn’t scored or assisted yet this season too, as he inevitably scores and/or assists.

They have a competent manager now, but he hasn’t been there long enough to have an effect. Considering Chelsea and Tottenham might drop points, anything but a win here is unacceptable. The performances against West Ham in the second half and against Real Sociedad however don’t inspire confidence. And our already awful attack is now also depleted. We will be very, very lucky to get the 3 points here. I’m not optimistic.

Feeling very pessimistic about this one

Away vs. team with new manager bounce and an absolute negative shithouse of a manager at that.

Add to that the fact we look toothless up front last couple of games and half the team look knackered and can I see this as a draw or worse. Start with Ronaldo and that scenario is absolutely guaranteed.

I’m hoping Ten Hag shows a bit of steel and drops him again. I’d rather play with no striker at all than someone who crushes the whole flow of the team.

Desperately need at least two of Antony, Martial and Sancho available.

Villa are just going to sit in and make this ugly.

Is this really not on tv again

Honestly, this is a joke. The amount of money you have to pay to watch your team on the tele and I think at least half of our games this season haven’t been televised

Think Bruno might be a big miss for us, 2 creative players is always better then one, if I was the opposition manager then I’d be marking our only creative outlet in Eriksen. We need whoever takes his place to step up, that could be VDB. Not very confident for this one as I think they’ll sit back and make it hard for us to break them down and then they’ll just counter with Bailey.

Must win, especially with how the fixtures have fallen with so many of our rivals for top 4 playing each other. Anything but a win would be a big let down.

Stop paying them. I did this season and the alternative has been flawless.

    Dalot Lindelof Martinez Shaw
    Casemiro Fred Mctominay
    Eriksen
    Rashford Garnacho

Dominante the midfield and one of Eriksen Rashford or Garnacho should score a goal....

Any updates on the travelling squad. I hope Anthony, Sancho and Antony made it?
