Why surprised? Ole's very rarely played Cavani the game after a EL tie

Yeah will he be saved for Liverpool or will he come in against Leicester....

I wonder if Ole is planning on going with split strikers or something different, similar to the systems we used against the bigger teams last season.

I hope not, I want us to just go at them. Liverpool don’t need any respect.

Get the win today and second is secured. Then we can rest players during a hectic period ahead of the Europa final.

It's not. We need more than 70 points to be sure, Chelsea can get to 73.

Also, how we finish this season matters. This team still has lots to prove. The EL final obviously has to take first priority, and Tuesday can't be helped, but we should absolutely be gunning for 80 points in the PL or as close to it as possible.

We need 4 points to just secure top 4.
The rest have played more games and will also drop points. If we win today, I think second is ours; top four will be locked in.

Three points today, takes us six ahead of Chelsea and seven ahead of Leicester, with a game still in hand. That's a terrific cushion to have ahead of a final.

    Who remembers this?

Ronaldo scoring at Villa Park, 2004.

For some reason I had a false memory of Ole scoring the other goal, but it was Van Nistelrooy.

Ole was an unused sub that day.

Until they do drop points though, we mathematically need 4 points to secure top 4. 7 for second.

I'm actually enjoying Troy Deeney and Joleon Lescott. I don't know if it's because Souness is talking less, but they're quite refreshing somehow. That probably speaks to how low the standard expectation of punditry has fallen.

Glad to see a the strong team out there today. Fair enough I knew Cavani wouldn't play as there's a a clear pattern of him not being able to play 2 games so close together. A win today and second should be secured, even if not yet mathematically.

I agree, and a win today would certainly make Ole's life much easier, with so many games coming up.

Pogba left and Rashford as the striker? It's a bit worrying that Cavani doesn't seem able to play 2 in a row
He's a 34 years old who's had plenty of injury problems, nothing worrying about it, it's just a natural thing that we have to manage.

It was probably unrealistic to expect Cavani starting after he played more than 70 minutes on Thursday. He sure will come on in the 2nd half, whatever the result.

Yeah... Souness is so much blah blah blah

Just don't hand Citeh the title lads. Let them win it by themselves.

Hopefully Mings will keep his foot away from our players head

I'm glad we are going with a strong team today. Although I am expecting a defeat. Just think our run will come to an end.

Someone in the Pogba and Rashford thread had mentioned we should play Rashford upfront instead of Cavani. Good game to see if that works. Unless, it's Greenwood upfront and Rashford on the right where in my opinion he is absolutely wasted.

TF happened to Grealish ? Did they sell him already with the condition of not playing the rest of the season?

Enjoying Lescott? He's insufferable with a dull delivery.
And always looks to get a little dig in despite playing next to no role in City's glory years

Doubtful for the next game became 3 months out.
That Villa manager is one untrustworthy weasel! He'll have known he was out for the season straight away I'm sure.

I laugh at some of you saying 2nd isn't important because I know some of you will use that against Ole. "We finished 3rd two years in a row need to fire because we didn't improve.....blah blah blah"

A win pretty much secures 2nd because we would only need 3 more points in the next 4.

Why the striped kit? Seems to be less visibility on backdrop for players.
