    I only opened this thread at half time, what is the story with the negativity?
     
    Of course it's going to be doom and gloom on here because we're not dominating, but the main thing is we've scored first. Jose now has time to assess things and get the 2nd early on in the 2nd half.
     
    Whoever plays on the left for United always has his work cut out. No support , & covering too much ground. Today it's mkhis turn.
    I'll take that though at ht , but you just get the feeling we're gonna let em back into it. Early second half goal for us would kill it tho.
     
    Take Micky T off at about 55/60. He is the weak link defensively.

    Ajax are surely if it continues like this, going to have one big chance. I think we need a second to be sure and even then it will be nervy.
     
    Mkhitaryan has been absolutely shocking, he's playing like he just woke up.
     
    We haven't given Ajax a snif but we won't survive the 2nd half playing like that.

    It's okay on paper, but we're letting them have the ball so much that it wouldn't be surprising at all to see them get a goal and then we're in trouble.

    To be fair they are pressing us relentlessly and it's made it look pretty difficult for us. I'd rather see us have more control of the game
     
    We may be ahead but we're not playing well. Ajax have just been worse than us.

    Just need to take more care when we attack and actually give our players something to build on. We could double our lead because they are vulnerable at the back. Stop hoofing it to nowhere.
     
    Not going to complain as long as we're in the lead, but I don't like how easily we surrender possession. Ajax have been getting too many opportunities to play their game. The constant long balls towards Rashford haven't been close to working out.
     
    Rashford has had no service. Mikhi is making odd decisions. I think this long ball effort is a risky approach. They need one decent chance (or deflection) and the momentum goes their way and we have to turn around the slack passing under intense pressure. I'd rather see us play.
     
    If we don't start getting on the ball and control it better I think they'll eventually start to find little pockets of space. We need to start attacking a bit more. I am not 100% sure we'll manage to scrape through a 1:0.
     
    Ok, let's take stock:

    We are winning and have had chances.

    Clearly Mkhi is a liability and now he is carded is petrified of getting close to their right winger or fullback.

    Pogba is forcing the issue but mainly because he knows how deep Mata and Mkhi are playing hence playing the ball square will play into the Ajax press, as seen several times.

    Rashford needs to run the channels, basically a lightweight style of holding up the ball. Avoid being tackled and wait for the team to move up etc.

    Mkhi off and Carrick on and we can push Pogba further forward to influence the game.
     
    Jose's tactics are looking good. Makes me nervous as hell but good. I think Ajax's strong spell in the last 20 minutes will give Mourinho a lot to talk at half time.

    All the back 4, Fellaini and Pogba have had fine games. Well above average

    Our issue is the final 1/3

    Yeah, 2nd and that's that. Hope we'll continue to play like this and score a 2nd somehow.
     
    Jose's tactics have worked, however we have not been good at all on the counter. Rashford and Mhki not in the match to this point, they need to get it together.

    Need to do better with the ball when we do get it.

    1-0 up which is great but a long way to go!!!

    The annoying thing is they aren't all that and yet we are not hitting them effectively when we break. One would think Mkhi + Mata + Rashford are masters in possession.....they have been utterly woeful.
     
    Performance means nothing in finals.

    Just want a win and feck off to this match and season. That's all I care about.
     
    I know we are winning but time wasting near the end of a second half is embarrassing.

    It may be effective but it's hard work to watch.
     
    Same script as always so far...start off OK...early goal. Let's defend. I know I need to have a word with myself but these just aren't that good at the back. Get at them

    I think we've done well and agree with you but I'll be pedantic. They have had one shot on goal.

    I dont want him but yoy gotta admit that some of his "play" ( push the ball forward and run as much as possible) is as dumb as it gets. He doesnt even try to change directions, he doesn't stop, just runs in straight lines.

    Not exactly moaning but our story this season is just like that take a lead then screw it with sitting back and being too damn cautious we need to be bit braver and be confident. Finger crossed.
     
    Hopefully Jose will throw on Martial for either Mata or Mkhitaryan soon. I guess the gameplan is to introduce him when ajax start tiring.

    I will fecking flip out of Jose starts taking off attackers for midfielders and defenders though. Thats how we lost/dropped points too many times this year.
     
    Half way there. The tactics are right, Ajax aren't offering a great deal on the ball. Traore is threatening though. Need that second goal. Miki has been awful, and needs pulling off.
