West Ham United Football Club (nicknamed The Irons, The Hammers, and The Academy of Football) are a professional football club based in Upton Park, East London. They were founded in 1895 by foreman and local league referee Dave Taylor and owner Arnold Hills as Thames Ironworks F.C. - a strictly amateur football club with a team featuring a number of works employees. During the summer of 1898, Thames Ironworks F.C. became a professional outfit for the first time, to match their new status as members of the Southern League Second Division, and were promoted to the First Division at the first attempt following a decision to enlarge the top division of the Southern League to 19 teams. After growing disputes over the running and financing of the club in June 1900, Thames Ironworks F.C. resigned from the Southern League and were officially wound up. On 5 July 1900 they reformed under the new name of West Ham United and accepted an offer of the Southern League place left vacant by Thames Ironworks.

West Ham's most successful period started with the appointment of Ron Greenwood in 1961 - leading to FA Cup, League Cup and Cup Winners' Cup titles - with youth team graduates Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters at the forefront. Their nickname The Academy of Football pays homage to the club's proud tradition in English football for playing entertaining, attacking football - and the success of the club in coaching future greats - which includes that aforementioned trio of World Cup winners, Trevor Brooking, Paul Ince, Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Jermaine Defoe and Michael Carrick. West Ham's most prominent rivals are local clubs Millwall (Dockers derby - one of the longest-standing and most bitter in English football), Chelsea (East versus West London rivalry), and Tottenham Hotspur (East versus North London derby). They played their home games at the now demolished Boleyn Ground (often referred to as Upton Park) from 1904 to 2016, and moved to the London Olympic Stadium at the start of the 2016/ 2017 League season.

We don't have time to dwell on the defeat. West Ham are fighting relegation. Anything other than a win is unacceptable against teams like this.

    De Gea
    Dalot - Lindelof - Shaw - Malacia
    Casemiro
    Bruno - Eriksen
    Antony - Rashford - Sancho

    0-2 Man United.

West Ham are rubbish and we should win. But we're also rubbish away from home. So who knows. Flip a coin

Will be a tough game, west ham at home especially are much better than what the table says for them. They were pretty unlucky for a lot of the season to be down there, mid table is more fair to them. The Newcastle performance and result was a bit of a fluke/one off. Full week breaks and easy schedule after this one.

We still have a 2 game buffer before we get into the last chance territory in terms of top 4, just need to get to 72 points which is 9 points from 5 games.

What do you mean by unacceptable? Nothing would happen.

I mean that losing to Brighton makes sense with the way the season has gone. Dropping points to West Ham, who are 15th, on the back of a loss, can't be excused.

Points wise we only need to win our home games for top four, but I think it’s vital we get a win here to avoid a very nervous run in.

    DDG
    Dalot Varane Shaw Malacia
    Eriksen Casemiro Bruno
    Pellistri Rashford Sancho

It's time to give Pellistri a game from the start.

Can't be any worse then "the Tonyies".

Understood, never say never with this team though.

Agree with Pellestri and hopefully Varane back. Maybe just maybe see Garnacho on the bench at least don't know what the update on him is though.

Since it's away we'll probably drop more points. West Ham can basically secure their survival with a win here. Hoping it's Rashford up front because I can't take any more of Martial or Weghorst

Will West ham have an eye on their euro semi? I think they are going to be effectively safe before they play us too.

Bubbles everywhere, Mark Noble out of retirement playing like prime Roy Keane.

Their FA Cup, CL, World Cup final all rolled into one. Declan Rice masterclass.

However we will of course create and miss many chances before completely shitting the bed in the second half and inevitably losing.

The difference between us and West Ham is far less than the league table suggests. They have been much better than their points total suggests.

Hopefully they have their eye on their semi, but they still need a couple of wins in the league to avoid relegation for sure.

Agree. People underestimating this game when it's another were likely to lose.

'Mate, we have 19 wins and 8 losses, They have 8 wins and 19 losses it isn't far less than the table suggests.

It’s not a must win, but if we fail to win then we need 3 wins out of our last 4 to guarantee top 4.

I’m therefore hoping we make it more comfortable and win this. I hate these top 4 tense dogfights when the prize at the end isn’t even that good.

We really are due an away win though. Hopefully we react well like we have with every other loss this season. They aren’t that good and they might have one eye on Europe.

West Ham could play this season a hundred times and would only get fewer points at this stage once or twice. There’s a reason why Moyes is still in a job. Defensively they are very sound but nobody has been able to finish their chances for them all season.

Since it's away we'll probably drop more points.

7W-2D-0L against the bottom 11 away and those 2 draws arguably could have been wins, Chelsea got a soft penalty and we had a stonewall penalty denied against Palace

I’m weirdly more confident of winning this than I was before tonight. If we win this we’ll go 4 points ahead of Liverpool (assuming they beat Brentford which is no given) and then we’ll have almost a full week to prepare for our home game v wolves which can put up 7 points ahead of them with 3 games left. We really are in an excellent position, a position every single one of us would have taken before the start of the season.

Confident of a win against these. Hopefully Rice is still not available for them.

Eriksen back in the team should help and hopefully our strikers will wake the feck up and actually put us in charge of the game.
