Technical Difficulties...
No thanks, he's as one-dimensional, overrated, and one-trick pony as it gets. If it wasn't for his passport he'd be judged objectively an fairly...he's not all that.

His passport? EVERY country hypes up their own players doing well in their country and its not as if we don't get people doing their fantasy shopping lists on hype now is it. Aguero, Silva, Gea, Neuer etc.

Don't think this "because he's English/British" debate holds up these days with the amount of foreigners in Italy, Spain, England and Ashley Young is a damn fine winger who'd do well at any big club IMO. Pacey, good cross, capable of goals, what's not too like.

Doubt we will buy him though and like Bale, as good as he is I don't think we need him with Nani and Valencia about. Park too.

I'd take him in a heart beat for 15 million, delivers a nice set piece as well

Every quality English player is welcomed.

I think he has the quality but there will be not much space in the squad after arriving Welbeck and Cleverley.

He's a good player so of course he would add to the squad. Not enough though, IMO. And certainly not enough when you consider the sort of price Villa will want.

Out of interest for those putting across the viewpoint, why is Ashley Young (a) a one trick pony and(b) over-rated. I don't think he is good enough for United but there plenty to Young's overall game and he is not a player who generates a massive amount of hype to suggest he is over-rated. For me, Young's a much better player than some of the very dismissive posts suggest and has a good track record in the Premiership.

Young's been one of the better performing wingers in the league since he went to Villa. He's not been that good this season but Villa have struggled since O'Neill left. Young's been in double figures for assists ever one of his full seasons for Villa(he's had 17, 14 and 16 respectively). He's hit nine goals in one every one of his full seasons there. That proves,if anything he has a consistent end product which is exactly what you want from a winger.

He's been voted in Premiership team of the season once, he's won the Young footballer of the year in 08/09 and he's been capped by his country, all on merit IMO.

Young mainly relies on his pace to beat players but he has abit of trickery to his game and moreover his delivery from out wide and set pieces is consistently good. He's also capable of scoring goals and is only 25.

I think he will end up with a move to Spurs because Redknapp seems a fan and he's not quite good enough for the other top four sides. I think Spurs would use him as a squad player but he could force his way into the side down the right.

I think Harry really fancied him before Bale became Jebus reincarnated. As it is now I think he'd struggle to get his game as his best performances have been on the left for Villa. That said, he'd probably still play plenty of games for a good side.

The saying that comes to mind... One trick pony.
Exept that isn't really true if you have seen anything of him this season is it, he is more than capeable of playing through the middle picking a good pass added to everything he does on the wings as well.

Far from a one trick pony, but still not a player I would be over the moon with us signing, but what do I know ?

Not a player i would like to see at United, but i remember when we signed Dwight Yorke from Villa and thought at the time he would be a complete waste but he turned out to be an excellent player.

for all the ***ping some of the english-centric lads on here were doing over that carthorse milner, young is twice the player.

would be a great addition to our wing depth.

And it would give us one player who can actually take a decent freekick. The slaughtering of Young is ridiculous - he would be an excellent addition to our squad. Not my first choice - but he still would add something we haven't got too much of with Valencia out injured - pace and penetration

The only appeal would be that he can actually take corners and FKs. He's versatile and could be a good squad player but not convinced by him otherwise - he's certainly not the same level as Nani or even Valencia.

We all love United
I don't mind if we had got him from Watford, Aston Villa got him for about 10 million quid and he was already quite a player. Now he'll cost double.

Merry Christmas. Did not expect this to be bumped.

Anyway, I have a sneaky feeling he could be a target. Pace, crossing ability and two-footed with a decent shot. If I were Sir Alex, I'd be thinking, he would be great value. He'd be a bit like Nani Mk II.

Would not be that much more expensive with his contract situation. Game over if he re-signs of course (unlikely if I were in his position), unless Villa go down.

I've got a mate who is quite knowledgeable on matteres regarding football and he reckons that his best playa comes when he's going down the centre as an attacking mid.
He's played as more of a second striker than an attacking mid at Villa this year but he's played it well, and I think he played there a lot for Watford too. He'd give us a lot more options and he's a talented lad but I'd be surprised if we went in for him.

I'd have thought someone like Liverpool would do well to pick him up, but he'd cost plenty.

The idea that this player and that player are not good enough for United always seems odd to me, given the amount of players we have elevated, just recently Valencia being a perfect example. I'd much rather have Sanchez or Hazard but Young would be far from a terrible signing.

I agree that Young would be a far from terrible signing. He is two footed so the idea of Nani & Young switching flanks and giving our forward line even more unpredictability seems a good one.

On the other thing your point works as long as the player is young enough. I agree with SAF that the signing of Hartson would have been a terrible one - he wasn't United quality. That said - we've signed enough players not of United quality so it is a moot point.

I'd snap their hand off at that price, but it sounds too good to be true. No team in the Premier League would turn down Ashley Young at that price (if its within their budget obviously).

At £13m he would be an excellent signing but it's NOTW and I don't think they ever got a story right.

£13m is a excellent price, although he has not progressed as much as i expected when he left Watford, with that said who ever gets him and can untap his potential he would provide brilliant value.

Can't believe they're selling off Dunne, he was the heart of their entire team last season.

quality player for good price. comfortable on the left unlike nani and valencia. love his pace, good setpiece and decent crossing, not cuptied, used to the prem, good age, being english is a plus. an english player that isn't an embarrasing transfer like milner would've been. would love to see this happen for 13 million quid.

For what? One paced, can't beat a man, crossing is shite. He's a poor man's Valencia.
Weird appraisal, you've taken all the things he's good at and declared the opposite... odd.

He is most certainly one of the best crossers in the league, he is also very quick, therefore as long as he can jog and walk then he is at least 3 paced :)

At that kind of money I'd be perfectly happy with his signing. But it would mean almost certainly that one of our current crop of wingers (other than Giggs) is not going to be here next season. At the very least he could compete with Valencia for a place in the team, till Valencia gets back to his best. Which could easily take at least a season like it has done with many other players back from a bad injury.

But either a Park, Obertan or a Bebe would have to make way, at the very least on loan, next season if it was going to happen. As we'd have Young, Nani, Valencia and Cleverley all expecting games.

I really doubt there's anything in it, just due to the numbers of players we have to play in these positions. Even though he's better than a bunch of them

Bebe is surely nailed on to go out on loan next season isn't he? He'll be over 21 and therefore have to be registered (?).

Young would be a fantastic signing. 13 million would be an absolute steal.
