Don't wear any colours and leave directly on full time otherwise they keep you back and you end up targets.

Only thing that worries me is the half hour walk from eastlands back to Picc seeing as either way we are let straight out or kept in i will at some point not be blocked off by police and have to walk back to town.

You may find the odd back street boozer open, but in the main, they'll be closed.

I was in before CC semi last year and most pubs seemed to be open but ill take your word for it on that one!
Acoiding Picc reassures me as i have to walk through it both ways to get back to my flat!
