Darron Gibson - is he good enough for Everton?

I don't think a loan deal outside of the premiership would benefit him. He's a quality player, who can do a job for us when needed. I'm not sure if he'll become a mainstay in our midfield in the future, but he's definitely premier league quality.

If he goes on loan, then he won't be back. He's played quite a few games in our first team now, and against a good standard of opposition. He's shown he can mix it reasonably well at that level. What we need to find out now is does he thrive on playing in big games in a United shirt. Because if the answer's no, there's not much point sending him out and starting the process again in the summer.

I'm backing the lad. I think he'll come good and be a regular player.

Just needs to bring a few things together and he could be a very good player indeed. This will all come with experience.

He'll be the O'Shea of midfield. We can use him in at least 1/3 of the PL games against weaker teams. And we can use him in League Cup and the FA Cup (ahem). He's still quite young too, just looks old.

Gibson, to me, seems at the same stage Fletch was a few seasons back, when most ( and I include myself here ) would have thought he would not cut the mustard long term - I think Gibson may follow suit.......

I actually see more potential in Gibson than I did in Fletcher at that time. It's really just his positioning and workrate that needs to improve, but the thing is that both of those things need to improve a lot.

His first touch, awareness and general sharpness with the ball at his feet is not up to the pace and intensity of the Premier League yet. He does have some things going for him though. He did a few good things today - that ball played in to Evra was brilliant, and it's good that he did look to get forward and support the attack because we weren't creating anything in the first half in particular.

Harsh. He wasnt that bad today. A few silly moments but did okish.

Will he make it at Utd though being the question? Doubtful

I think its a little harsh, problem he has (like Anderson) is being consist enough to be a constant threat in midfield - i've seen him play games where you can see he can ping balls to plays and do that hollywood pass but as i said he doesnt do it nearly as consistantly.

Today he was poor but he had a few glimices which were promising (were quite far and inbetween today agreed)

If he was 18 or 19, I would say let's wait and see. But he's fecking 22 and the only thing he's even remotely good at is shooting from a distance. Every other aspect of his game is lower-Premier League or even Championship level.

Hes crap, hes always been crap, so far out of his depth its actually rather embaressing....all he does is shoot, and gets 1 out of 35 on target at that.

You're being close-minded about what midfielders are meant to do.

He showed some drive today, always trying to support Berbatov and I for one was glad he was taking a few shots, because that seemed to be our only threat at that point in the game. He looked more mobile today than he usually does as well. In flashes he shows great attributes, lethal shot and can pick out a pass or two as well.

We all know the last british midfielder that we all wrote off time and time again. Let's just wait and see shall we.

The fact he can't start games for Rep. of Ireland worries me.

22 for CMF is quite young, i mean you have those rare cases like Fabregas who come along and are brilliant - even then you could say hes helped by Asnls new 433 system which gives him the freedom to do what he does. Theres been a few midfielders who only really developed around 25-26, Essien, Xavi, Fletcher...

Central Midfield is a very difficult position to play at any level...never mind the premiership. Took Fletcher 3 years to establish himself! Give the lad time.

Dont start with your technical babble with me tonight, not after that, he was awful and quite frankly it isnt the first time, far from it, hes just a very average player, its debatable whether he looked Wolves first team quality today never mind Manchester United.

Why are you showing Anderson huge amounts of patience and none for Gibson?

Anderson is a lot more talented technically.

In fact if you combined Anderson's ability on the ball with Gibsons shooting prowess, you'd have a damn good footballer.

That's entirely subjective.

So since you can't really know anything about football, it makes sense to have a bit of patience with every single player that plays for us.

Sir Alex obviously sees something in him you don't.

I'm not saying he's going to be good enough, or that I'd be unhappy if we sold him in the summer, but you just can't know how he'll progress so you're better off waiting before judging.

The whole team struggled today. But I am struggling to remember too many good games he's had, rather than being middling and scoring a long range goal. He needs to up his game considerably, or I can't see him lasting with us.

No its not, hes quite clearly not good enough, like the likes of Manucho wasnt good enough, like Dong wasnt good enough, like Kleberson wasnt good enough, Like Liam Miller wasnt good enough, like Djemba x2 wasnt good enough, like Bellion wasnt good enough etc, Sir Alex saw something in those to.

I do understand your touchyness on this subject, a member of your 'clique' did of course create a rather embaressing thread on this very topic, must keep up appearences after all....:smirk:

Like Fletcher wasn't good enough, like O'Shea wasn't good enough just last year, like Park wasn't good enough the previous year and last month, like Carrick wasn't good enough to start with a couple of months ago - although that one was decidedly absurd... - people don't appreciate young players who aren't flashy despite that being continually shown up as a terrible way of judging players. If they don't make big impacts early on they're not good enough, that's the general logic on show in here.

I'm part of the clique?! It's my dream come true.

These were the kinds of things everyone was saying about Fletcher a few years ago! Gibson I believe will be a much mroe effective player in 1 or 2 years. He is still young for a central defensive midfield role. But if we could use him in a swap deal for a bigger talent like Rodwell then I wouldn't say no!

Gibson is a squad player who comes into the side occasionally and this season has done ok. He strikes me as being good enough for that role provided he can tighten up his game a bit: more awareness on the defensive side, make himself available to receive the ball more often, a little more variation in the final third.

I wouldn't want him to feature in big games because I suspect he'd look completely out of his depth. And in all honesty, I doubt he'll improve to the extent that I'd be content to see him in the starting line-up for key premiership and european matches.

No, people dont appreciate 'young platers' (is 22 really that young?) who quite clearly show they are our of their depth at first team level, like Gibson has done 99% of the time hes played, and youll find plenty of other people think the same way....ill have a wager with you Gibson wont be at this club in 2 years.

And yes, its not gone unoticed a select few like to defend one another so to speak on here, quite touching really....

He's shown a lot more to his game than you're aware of, and the fact that you're so sure of your own opinion makes that difficult for you to accept, so...I'll not bother on this one.

Are you really giving me a lecture on being 'sure of my opinions' brwned? come on now thats more than a tad hypocritical dont you think.

Look this is all extremly simple, i dont think Gibsons good enough and i base that on, ya know, watching him play kinda thing, you evidently dont agree, okiedokey then.

We're all hypocrites, I'm trying to change you don't seem to care, so I've reason to.

Gibson is good enough for United, he's shown his potential earlier in the season with the strikes & with enough game time in the centre of midfield he could become the next Fletcher or Carrick for us.

Far too many people writing him off here, probably the same ones who were wanking about him when he scored against Spurs & West Ham.
