UEFA Champions League Round of 16 - 4/3/25 - 12/3/25

What the feck are you on about

We already beat you in 2006 with a second string defence.

We want to face you as we will get chances. Against Atletico we'd never have laid a glove on them. We already lost to them a few years back in the same way as I said.

We will still probably lose to Madrid too but will get chances to score as well.
2006
The single one impressive CL campaign Arsenal have had in their entire history as a 'big club'.

As an Arsenal fan I would be embarrassed to even post in a thread about the Champions League.

A bit rich coming from a fan of a club which hasn't been in the CL for consecutive seasons since 2019 and hasn't gotten past the QFs in 14 years.

I guess that should have ruled Liverpool fans out of any discussions on the league for a good 30 years.

Funnily enough even in this our banter era we have been in the CL more often since 2019 than the mighty resurgent Arsenal

Wow, had to check if that was true. They were in the Europe League for five straight seasons

The Alvarez 'double touch' when taking his penalty bollocks. The guy slipped. Did the ref think he slipped on purpose or something? Grow up and either just retake the penalty or give it. Ridiculous decision. The fact that it is so inconclusive as well whether he even actually did touch it twice.

You can clearly see it’s a double touch so I’m not sure what some people are seeing. That being said, it’s a daft rule and a harsh way to rule out the penalty.
it’s anything but a daft rule. You can’t have more than one touch. Buck stops with the player for tripping.

I hope UEFA considers scrapping extra time soon, yes, occasionally it offers entertainment, but largely, its a waste of time and energy, go straight to penalties.

Find it ridiculous that given the surfaces the players play on and the amount of R&D that goes into making these high end boots they still end up slipping. It could be that particular brand/model he was wearing wasn't suited to the conditions which is even more crazy given how high stakes the game was.

I think the squads have changed a little bit since.
Ofcourse they have which is why youre favourites

I don't know why people intent on trolling are missing me repeating myself this.

My point was to the poster thinking if we beat Madrid we will celebrate this till the end of the time. When even worse Arsenal side beat Madrid with Senderos and Flamini in our defence in 2006 and noone really cares now.

Its just attempt at trolling nothing more.

And I hope such posters are here if we somehow cause a major upset. As unlikely as that is.

Let's get the world's smallest violin shall we
I meant as in we rarely roll over teams  Likes of Barca/Bayern/City when they are great do, we have a tendency to make things harder than it should be. But unlike most other teams, Real do often end up pulling it off.

And this season we aren’t much good to begin with, those Arsenal games will be very close.

I still remember that lucky 1-0 win... You still celebrate that?
We've won the Champions League six times since then.
For me, Arsenal is on the same level as Dortmund, Porto, Benfica, and Ajax. They are nowhere near clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, or Bayern.

That's the only time you made a final. You don't care?

I would'nt troll Flamini and Senderos. They were decent players. Much better then many you have had since. Flamini could still make your current Arsenal team.

I mean it did kinda rule them out, people used to mock them relentlessly.

Fecking hell, have you lot read the exchange that comment was part of?

One of our stockholm-syndrome scousers said United fans shouldn't comment on the CL because we've not got past the quarter-finals in a while, so I basically poked some fun at the fact their fans used to talk themselves up as title contenders every single year when they spent the best part of 30 years not getting close to a title.

Please don't stop, everyone, I'll get the popcorn

Not at all what I said, I said that the comment of the Utd fan was a bit rich considering your own recent history in the competition.

And stop following me around, you are annoying and tiresome. "Poked some fun", my word. Your essays are boring and usually don't have a point besides the fact that you think Liverpool are actually an average side.

Madrid are pretty vulnerable as long as you keep their front 3 tied down, they can't provide other outlets of creativity outside them, their midfield lacks the requisite spark, too physical.

They've sorely missed kroos.

Still, shouldn't stop them from wining the thing again.

Yes, by saying it was "a bit rich" you were basically saying United fans shouldn't talk about the CL. There is literally no other way to take the comment.

I'm also not following you around, you just post in some of the threads I've been reading.

Also, "essays"? It was basically the same length as your response to me you weirdo.

What the feck? Arsenal? No way I want to see their fans celebrate a Champions League, they'd be last of the remaining teams I want to win it. Bayern neither since they'd go one up over Liverpool.

Just let Madrid win it, they're already by far the most successful team and no one will even know whether they have 15 or 19 CL trophies.
For some reason I don’t mind Arsenal. Probably because they stopped united from winning even more than they did decades ago. Yea let’s drop Bayern. Villa though 100%.

That’s definitely not what I mean though. I would love United to be facing teams like Real Madrid in the champions league, that’s what it’s all about but that’s not what’s being said. Some people and Arsenal fans seem to think it’s better to play currently holders and greatest club side in European history Real Madrid over Athletico Madrid because it’ll be an easier game, it just sounds utterly mental and couldn’t be further from the truth.

Listen, either game, with the lack of forwards we have, would be a massive uphill battle. We're effectively going into a fight where our opponents have knuckle dusters and we have cushioned gloves.

But the reasoning some Arsenal fans have for preferring Real, is that sometimes, styles make fights. Atletico style is our kryptonite. We all see it, when we play teams like Newcastle. Our record the past couple of seasons is better vs the likes of Liverpool and City, than it is vs Newcastle.

So yeah, Real have all the history, and some of the world top players. However, they will give teams a chance, and that helps a bit when you are a team that doesn't create a lot anyway.

Also, if we are Set Piece FC currently, we probably have a better chance vs a Real defence than a Atletico one of nicking 1.

Theres also fans that just want the glamour and challenge of playing Real. There's not been many games between the 2 teams, with the last nearly 20 years ago, so it's not like Liverpool or City Vs Real where they have played each other a fair bit the last 5 years or so.

Lastly, with the likelihood that either team will knock Arsenal out. Id rather get put out by Mbappe, Vinicius et all than an absolute slug fest with Atletico.

Atletico's record against RM was an abomination in the decade before Simeone arrived, it's improved a lot but there's also been some heartbreaking moments for them so it's probably a wash.

More like TONS. Aleti fans in their jobs this week would have to start meditation or resign.

It is quite amazing how you can just wind up man utd fans on here and get away with it. You must have some sort on the mods or something.

So you don't think that a Utd fan telling an Arsenal fan that he has no business in a thread about a competition that Arsenal is in, and United isn't, is at least a bit... I don't know, you can fill that in for yourself if you don't think there's anything weird or funny about that.

I just find it strange that it’s the Liverpool fan bringing it up that’s all, carry on :)

What makes you think Real will give you space? Real will sit deep and hit you on counter in first game. Real Madrid is not City who has a defined playing style.

I didn't say you would give us space, but you are more likely to give us a bit of a chance as you will at least commit bodies forward for a counter attack.

Even if it was to do with space, if the choice is between yourselves and Atletico, who do you think would offer more space, considering you had a go at yourself for parking the bus in a home game after getting the goal last night?

Don't mistake what i'm saying, i'm by no means belittling you guys, because you offer way more threat as an attacking outlet, and i'm under no illusions we'll be big underdogs going into the game. And i did list other reasons why i'd prefer to play you guys that were complimentary.
