Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach

Got away with it against Southampton, got away with one against Leicester, then Everton, then lucky Ipswich because they are horrendous. Those were our ‘better’ results in the last 10 odd games. Now a slugfest against a bang average Fulham side…

He needs to show something, and quickly.

I’m still resolutely behind him. Mismanagement at a board and recruitment level for 10+ years has led to this.
We were VERY lucky in the cup last year with Ten Hag and this year on all levels our luck has run out.

He needs players that are his before I can judge. These ones are just useless

Were you like this with Ten Hag as we are in so much financial trouble backing him?

We would have to be completely insane to go down that road again with Amorim going by what we have seen so far.

He has not improved one single player since he has been here and has only got one system which does not work in the premiership.

Time does not fix what will never work

He’s been an absolute disaster of an appointment.

He’s taken a bad team and made it far worse.

He's not good enough, I do sympathise because those above him are even more incompetent.

One thing's for certain United aren't winning any leagues under his tenure. He's self admittedly mentioned being out of ideas in Rio's interview. This type of slump is one that requires much adaptation and experience which he doesn't possess.

This is how I feel as well. He’s just out his depth. I like him and he comes across well in interviews, but the football is horrendous.

I totally agree mate.

We definitely need better players, but we will be stupid beyond words if we bring in specialist players for this ludicrous system he plays.

Coinceicao is doing a terrible job at Milan and they are already eying up replacements according to reports.

Just maybe the Portuguese league isn’t a great league to be signing managers from. I just can’t take a manager seriously, when he is glued to one formation and refuses to change.

We’d look fecking better if we brought in players for the system. We’re not going back to the system that got us into this mess.

I feel for him because the attacking options are so poor. One of the worst in the league. One of our best attacking threats is out (Amad) and we had to loan out three others who were not doing the business and didn't turn up this season (Rashford, Sancho, Antony). He gave two of the youth players a significant amount of time today, which is positive. But, we have to be expecting so much more from Hojlund, Zirkzee, and Garnacho. Their contributions are just not good enough. Amad and Bruno have carried us this season and one of them isn't available now.

He has to do better, and I'm sure he knows that. My issue is that we had significant problems before Amorim turned up. We've bought the wrong sorts of players and have haemorrhaged so much money due to poor buys, huge wages, debt, the Glazer's being cnuts, etc, all of which contribute to the mess that we're in. It's all well and good lambasting Amorim for not playing free-flowing attacking football, but look at the players at the top end of the pitch. Zirkzee can't run, Hojlund is invisible, and Garnacho can't actually hit the target, and under-hits shots when he does.

All of this talk of it being an unusual formation and players not knowing their roles is all very convenient for me. What will our next set of excuses be when the next manager comes in after Amorim? That the ball is too round? The goals aren't wide enough? The pitch is too big?

So you think that 343 is the INEOS way going forward?

I’d bet good money that when Amorim is sacked they bring in a 433 manager. I just don’t want us wasting money on specialist system players that instantly become deadwood when we get a new manager.

We spend 20 million on getting rid of ten Hag and the person who said not to fire ten Hag, just to get even worse. Joke of a football club. It’s not when it rains it poors. We are 7 feet deep into a dive in a pool.
Fake news

I think we need good players much more than we need specialist players.

I agree these smaller leagues are only viable for managers who do exceedingly well outside of it. For instance Jose winning the European cup with Porto it gives him pedigree to step into the role at Chelsea and even be given time as it's a monumental achievement.

Amorim / Erik both achieved domestically but had little to show for in Europe. No matter the opposition United are up the against the team is null and void tactically, it's not a coincidence it's happened under both managers coming from non-competitive leagues.

You think spending £15m to sack him to bring in Rooney or someone even worse for 3 months is a good use of money we dont have?
Sack him in the summer then. Sack him and don't bring anyone in as a temp, It will make f all difference.

He's utterly useless. He needs to go, total joke of a manager, and it's completely ridiculous how some think we're actually this bad. He's the problem.

I don't trust this bloke with a transfer budget. Sack him and get someone in who plays with 2 CBs and 3 CMs.

Some people seem to have developed Stockholm Syndrome with him. Yes, our squad isn't great but it's certainly capable of achieving more than what he's done with his negative tactics.

How can you definitely say this? I like Amorin, want him to succeed, but objectively he’s shown absolutely nothing…nothing. Ten Hag had many faults and undoubtably left us in a mess, but we literally never sank this low under him and while we were inconsistent at least we would pull the odd good result out and comfortable win. This is objectively the worst we have been post Fergie, don’t see how anyone can argue otherwise.

I don't think some posters understand what giving a manager time means. It doesn't mean continuously judging if they are right for the job when they come in mid season, take over a truly shambolic situation, have one new player and then lose 6 first team players to injury.

I've no idea if Amorim is the right manager yet, but I don't think now is the time to be judging it.

The owners will not be sacking him either, so it's not really even worth debating is it?

I would like to see him try a different formation. Sure, if you get the right personnel the 3-4-2-1 can work, but right now we arguably don’t have a single player that’s the right fit for this system against PL opposition. The reality is that good passing teams who play 3 central midfielders can by-pass the centre of the park far too easily.

I’ve seen people say that if Chelsea can win the league with this formation, then it’s proof that it works, but if anything, it’s proof about just how important the correct players are. They had prime Kante, one of the only players in PL era who can actually do the job of two players, next to Matic who was great at carrying the ball and rarely gave it away. Then -even though he played as more of a winger than a LF - Eden Hazard was one of the best players in the league. I have no doubt that Diogo Dalot has better technique as a footballer than victor moses, but Moses was absolutely perfect for the RWB role and Alonso was the same on the other side. They had probably 8/11 of their players be absolutely perfect for the formation, hence why conte (a genius tactical manager) switched to it.

I would like to see him at least try the 4321… ask the same of the front 3 (which isn’t saying much) but shore up the middle of the park in sacrifice of one CB

That’s a team I can get behind

It really is.

I need to stop visiting it, some fans honestly don’t deserve good football.
If the football was good there wouldn’t be the complaints.

We play like a fecking championship team every single game and you wonder why there is discontent? With the trajectory we are on, this manager will likely relegate us next season.

Show me the good football....
good football with what good players we have? name me our exciting attackers we have for this good football everyone is harping on about

Garna? who didn't pull trees today? Hojlund? Zirkzee. Name me our midfielders that will play good football?

we only have Bruno, get real.

You need patience for that, something most of the people in this thread have none of whatsoever.

Because blaming the manager is so braindead when we are relying on goals from Hojlund, Zirkzee and Garnacho. It’s not difficult.

Bruno’s the only player who gets into the Fulham team. We are that bad.

We are struggling to score goals which is quite evident, and he plays 5 defensive players at the back. This has nothing to do with formation, he needs to be more attacking.I dont think he has tried once to change this in all the losing games.
