This game would be a lot better with a less weak ref.

Fair play on booking Rodri though, tbf.

Giving suspensions for 2 yellows is so stupid. No other sport does anything like it.

Feels like a 0-0 kind of game

Neither team taking their chances.

Nico Williams show, would give everything to get him at United. Imagine Garnacho & him running at defence.

Just started watching. Not surprised to see Spain being their usual diving, crying, acting whiners.

He isn't, he is a very good all rounder but he isn't elite from a technical standpoint. There is quite obviously several gaps between him and the likes of Totti, Verratti, Pirlo, Del Piero, Baggio, Cassano and many others.
@giorno, it's half time. Take a breather, unhinge yourself.

Thoughts on the above?

I like people being able to keep the ball, but not just passing it about for the sake of it. You think about the fact we have Harry Kane who scores for fun at club level, Spain never seemed to have a prolific scorer, Villa and Torres. However they seemed to be able to get the results. Good coaching.
Ye I suppose when your teams that good at passing and play as a team that connects well on the pitch then you don’t really need a clinical goalscorer. You always find ways to get near the opposition net and other players chip in with goals. City won the league without a ST.

Completely different type of player to Totti, Del Piero, Baggio and Cassano. Apples and oranges.

Of course he has to has a wider all round game than most of those, because he has to be proficient in every aspect of the game as he’s central to both phases.

But this really isn’t about making comparisons to previous players, it’s about saying Italy don’t have an elite technician, and I don’t think that’s true. Barella is an elite technician, just not as elite as Roberto fecking Baggio; but who is?

I also think he’s better than Verratti in almost every way.

Meh, those types of stats aren’t worth much for me.

As for what we have actually seen in this tournament so far: I feel like Spain is doing a lesser version of their high press, which Croatia and even Italy at times are able to play through. Because it isn’t as systemically good at what you’d see on a club level by certain teams. For NT tournament you can get away with it, but inevitably you’ll run into teams that will bypass that press and punish you. For me, Germany and to a lesser extent France are those teams. Also think the German defense with Rudiger and Tah should be able to handle the likes of Morata. Whereas the German attack patterns I think will overwhelm the Spain defense which hasn’t looked good so far (Croatia really sucked at finishing).

Certainly a match I’d like to see.
Sure. They can win, but to argue that Germany would beat Spain “handedly” is a stretch in my view.

I don’t like either of these two teams, but I have been more impressed by Spain than by Germany. If they meet, it will be an interesting game, and anything can happen.

The Italian midfield has created next to nothing. I don’t blame their attackers. Spain is completely dominating the game. Italy would need to win the old way, if they can still do it. Be strong defensively and score a goal when you have that odd chance.
A lot easier when they had Inzaghi, Toni, vieri etc up front. Now they have Scamacca

I think Italy look in control at the back. Dont have much going the other way, hardly anybody able to hold on to the ball when its pinged forward

Could probably bring on Raspadori and see if they can bring more combinations going forward. Right now Scamacca isnt doing enough

The point was about elite technicians, there is no reason to not name different type of players. And Barella isn't one so that's pretty simple.

Technically Verratti was miles ahead of Barella.

Bad half from us. It seems clear Spain are a couple of levels ahead of us.

At this point our target should just be finishing 2nd in this group by not losing vs Croatia next and then defeat 2nd-placed group A team (Switzerland?) in the Ro16.
Then no matter who we'd get in the QF, we are inferior to at least 5-6 teams in the EURO

Did you watch the England game and nothing else?
Not many actually, watched both England, both Denmark, France, Netherlands and Portugal, and now watching Spain vs Italy.

Lost the attention in all those games.
