Considering we don't have a player called "some experience", who would you suggest?
We can laugh about him and call him whatever but I would have take Jordan Henderson. And he would have played. I would also have called Ward-Prowse. There are not to many options but there you have two players who could improve this midfield instantly.

Making wholesale changes after winning a reasonably tricky opening group game is just not going to happen.

Yes, the performance against Serbia was mediocre at best, but they got the job done.

Foden may actually click in this game and showing a bit of faith in him is understandable after the season he's had.

I would like to see Gordon on the left at some point however because he has the pace and trickery to stretch the game.
Even just Gordon for Foden, or Mainoo for Trent would've been a meaningful change. No need to change up the whole team.

Definitely thought this.
The media have campaigned for him to start it's been all over talksport for ages. I didn't think he'd do it as it's barely been tried before, but here we are 2nd game into a major tournament shoehorning him into the heart of midfield.
England looked miles better 2 years ago.
It may be better for us in the long run in this competition if we play the same dull football we did against Serbia and scrape a draw.
Surely then we must change things up and Southgate just might stumble across something that approaches competence

I suppose it's not fashionable on here, but I sometimes struggle to see what everyone's problem is with England. Foden played mostly on the left this season for City and had a magnificent season, he hasn't hit on all gears for England yet, but he's also been in and out for England based on his City form and playing time - Pep was chopping and dropping him until this season. As for Trent, hasn't he been midfielder for Liverpool practically the whole season? He got dropped for England when he was playing as a back, I think it was Southgate, not Klopp who actually first tried him in midfield, and then Liverpool moved him to MF. All I hear is quite a bit of whinging, that I don't totally understand.
Foden has 10 apps this season as a lw for City. Even then it's irrelevant the 2 teams play completely different systems. As for Trent, he has a total of 1 app in midfield for Liverpool this season and has a grand total 3 apps in midfield for Liverpool in his career. Klopp, one of the best managers in the world doesn't see him as a CM and despite having multiple injury crisis's in midfield has given him 3 apps in midfield....

Bad thing for England perhaps is that now Denmark will be even more fired up to get a result
A draw would suit Denmark perfectly. Sadly I can't see any way we don't get beaten by England tonight.

Trent in midfield again

Everyone in the world can see it didn't work except Southgate.

This was England's team that lost to France in the WC:
Pickford
Walker
Stones
Maguire - Injured and not available, Guehi was pretty good in the last match I thought. Who else do they go to? Dunk?
Shaw - Inured and not available yet, Trippier out of position is odd, but England just lacks options in this position
Henderson - This seems to the point of contention. England fans were appalled by Henderson. Who did Southgate sub on for Hendo? Mason "useless bastard for United" Mount. He's probably still injured like has been all season. So we don't like TAA here, and prefer ... Conor Gallagher or Mainoo? Fair play. The other option 2 years ago was Kalvin Phillips, who disintegrated his career.
Rice
Bellingham
Foden
Saka
Kane

It's practically the same team, I guess all the TAA vs Gallagher vs Mainoo debate has everyone up in arms, but I struggle, really struggle, to see what the fuss is about.

I am sure that some of these 'expert pundits' have been put on the payroll of FSG. Cannot understand the criticism that Foden is getting even before he kicks a ball. OK he plays for the Blues but he's an utter game changer yet these mug's are still lauding Trent as the second coming. The whole make up of the team has been made to accommodate Trent

Harry Kane to put in another great invisible man performance?
Likewise with Foden. Can’t expect miracles when the manager plays negatively. We have talented midfielders on the bench and he sticks a RB there again.

Surely the 5 at the back he used to play is the only thing that makes sense if you're going to absolutely insist on not having an actual LB in the squad?

Saka played a lot of games at LWB for Arsenal earlier in his career. Guehi has played in a back three for Palace lately. Wing back is about the only position that makes any sense for "Trent", if you have to start him. Foden can be more central.

Look at Bellingham with his shoulders out. Micah creaming his pants right about now.

Funny how none of these players can pass in an England shirt like they can for their clubs.
