I think mainoo is a proper footballer .
The exact type of footballer a lot of us have known we've been crying out for since forever .

I remember ETH in his first months being asked , "will you get dejong "? His answer was , if we we can't , we have to find those qualities within and develop them .

Lvg gave us Rashford , Jose gave us mctom , Ole gave us garnacho ( to an extent )

Ten hag gave us mainoo . .

Not every manager would've seen it , but ten hag was looking for it . Some go for all pace , some go for physicality .
ETH went for the things that he thinks make a key player ( future)

I'll be grateful for that if ETH goes . Mainoo has been the highlight of the season for me .
He's got the world in his hand . It's up to him now . No future manager can ignore his quality . It's too obvious .

They easily could have done if he hadn't been played this season . Not just played , key.

To be honest Garnacho and Mainoo are both Ten Hag.

From the interview, sounds like Southgate is impressed with Mainoo's performance in big games, high pressure matches.

So he is not ruling out starting Mainoo which means Foden will need to move to the left and both Cole Palmer and Grealish will be benched. My guess is Eze, Gordon and Maddison will be shipped back home, which is quite unfortunate given that these guys would walk into the starting line-up in most European national teams.

A big leap no doubt but I'm confident Kobbie is ready to shine at the international level.

I'm really interested to see how his career develops. He's obviously got an eye for goal and breaking into the box but his ability to retain the ball and awareness is just phenomenal and you'd think he could be a player that could sit back and dictate things.

Crap result for England. How did he play?

Fairly poor I thought. Not the only one though and he was fine when he kept it simple and had one or two nice moments, just didn't manage to do anything decisive when he had opportunities to. Yong and lernin basically.

Cool, thanks. I’m actually hoping he plays very little football this summer, so all good if he slips down pecking order.

He did not play well. Nor did any of his teammates. Hopefully he gets to start the first game v Serbia.

Typical media. Absolute wankers.

Would you rather be stuck in a forest with Jason Burt or a bear?

Thought he did well, barely missed a pass. Tried to find openings, found Foden a number of times but Icelands defence were extremely compact and well organized. Really difficult to find any space.

Not that there's a whiff of a problem yet, but someone needs to make sure that what happened to Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood does not happen to Kobbie Mainoo. The boy needs to be looked after.

Is he actually going to be starting for England in the groups? Seems a remarkably quick rise if so. They definitely need someone like him in there.

Think we need to be careful about differentiating the issues faced by Rashford and Greenwood. The former has probably been let down by a lack of quality coaching, but has still put together two or three excellent seasons of football.

The latter is, unfortunately, a reprehensible piece of shit who should never darken the door of Old Trafford again.

United fans do need to protect him.

I guarantee though, in 6 months, there will be people on here saying "it's getting to his head" after a 10 second clip of him not sprinting for a ball goes viral on Twitter.

I think that article is correct, however if anyone watched the England game last night they would also have seen both Mainoo and Rice hideously out of position time and time again.

Which suggests it was a tactical option to push the midfield two slightly higher in order to push the opposition back.

Needless to say for England, it didn't work and made Rice and Mainoo look hapless throughout the game.

It was. And he was very physically dealt with by the Iceland players throughout the game. This will be good experience for him though.

It's not just what he does with it ball, it's his movement off it. He has such intelligence. His instinct is to move, make space, provide options and he always does it in such a smart way. You see far more experienced players pass the ball and stand there, rooted to the spot, ensuring everything remains static and closed. Mainoo understands so much about what a top quality footballer does when he hasn't got the ball

I think it's more ridiculous how some people can't handle criticism of United players by journalists, and label it as hate, like it's some personal attack on the lad when it isn't
That read like it was, especially mentioning him in the rice bit
