The headline and the quote is misleading. ETH is referring to the price paid. He's right, he can say he wanted Antony but he wasn't the one saying we should pay £90m. Ultimately he probably doesn't really care about the value and just making sure he gets his target.

Yeah, fuming here mate. Reminds me of the 80’s when we hired that Scottish loser. We were a top 4 team in all the previous 5 seasons before he came, and he took us to 11th, 2nd, 11t, 13th and 6th in his first 5 seasons, but had a couple of lucky cup runs so some people still defended him. Madness.

If he wanted Antony at United I'm pretty sure he saw him as a potentially big player for us and himself, rather than a cheap squad player. We were lacking on the wing.
ETH is not at fault in any way for how much we paid for Antony. He's at fault for grossly misjudging Antony's ability and wanting him at all.

No idea why it's taken so long, get the decision out the way so the club can adequately plan for the summer.
That's a fair criticism but I don't think ETH cares as his role isn't there to ensure there is value for money.
Because if he lives in the real world, he will realize that budget constraints exist and that every pound spent on one player is a pound that can't be spent on another player.

Eriksen just doesn't seem like a club signing to me. We signed older player under Ed, but usually big names. We know Ten Hag really pushed for FDJ, when we signed Eriksen I'm sure it was reported that Ten Hag pushed for him as well.
He was an able backup/rotation option for Frenkie. And having been brought through in Holland with Ajax he would be familiar with the tactics/styles of play Ten Hag wanted to implement.

Timber is brilliant to be fair. I haven’t seen him enough to suggest I’d rather him than Martinez as the fella is almost immediately one of my favourite players. But Timber is great. Will be huge for Arsenal next year.
He's a different type of player though, with Martinez being the better at distribution from the back. Which is something that ETH has said is critical to his football. What would he have done if he got his first choice in Timber?
