Watched an episode or two of this when I was a young kid, thought nothing of it. Had no idea anyone else even knew of it let alone it being a top 10 show.

I enjoyed Spartacus season 1 and Gods of the Arena. Season 2 not so much. I never watched season 3.

I felt the same. Season 2 was my least favourite. Season 3 is excellent though and has a very touching ending.

There are a few shows like this that I've only heard of on the caf and put down to them being popular with the local population or just them being nostalgic and not really meant for outsiders who aren't culturally well versed to get anywhere near relating to that humor.
Does it? I didn't watch it partly because in reality they all ended up getting crucified. Also partly because I missed the original actor.

I'd say it's on an entirely different planet from Only Fools & Horses. Fawlty Towers is brilliant, but also a very different kind of comedy. The thing that makes Blackadder special to me is above all the verbal humour, and in particular the use of sarcasm. I'm not sure that's been done better by anyone, ever.
There's a bit of a divide between the first season and the last three. In the first Blackadder is a mean-spirited and essentially pathetic character, in the last three he's a mean-spirited and essentially superior character (even though life treats him with about equal harshness in all four).
They really do pay tribute to the original actor at the end of season 3.

Yeah it's brilliant. Not too keen on the first Blackadder but subsequent ones are great, again British humour isn't easy to understand which is why it may not appeal to non UK/Irish folk. I'm love the series.

There's something in me that is happy that decided to just leave this masterpiece untouched.

Yeah in a few things that's true, but HK is definitely not a souls-like overall, but it's nice to see some general similarities. Team Cherry are pretty big souls fans anyway. Talking of which, if you haven't go and watch/play (only possible on PC) the fan-made DLC for Hollow Knight. It's just incredible.

I can still watch Blackadder every few weeks. Still makes me chuckle at its best.
