Your head is going to spin when you find out those responders come from a wider variety than one forum or pay to subscribe website but you know that which is why you didn’t come to me directly.

The rather specific pool of people being used to speak for the many would deem any opinion poll worthless.

Nice try though. Feel free to discuss further should you drop being disingenuous. This forums polls do not canvas a wide enough amount of the fanbase. They’ve never been upscaled beyond here before so not sure why they would now.
This isn't a democratic decision. It's a business taking a view on an internal disciplinary matter. The fact that they considered the opinions people shared online or by contacting the club directly just shows you that the views shared by those not wanting MG back were maybe more compelling than those of the people who did.

It’s funny you mention Neville cause I’ve previously said similar about how he is seen as speaking for the entire fanbase on multiple things, just go to his thread on here & you’ll see examples of multiple people saying he doesn’t.

ref Riley: Multiple articles have cited her saying she will withdraw her fandom as a reason Manchester United should have taken the decision. These articles have used her views as those of the fanbase, that’s what I mean but you know that.
Yeah thanks for picking up on Neville, what is it about him that is different from the rest I wonder?

Oh yeah, he played for United and is paid as a football pundit to offer his opinion on football.

I never understand when fans get really upset or quite hateful at him doing that as if it's a reflection on them or even the club at this stage.

On Riley, so it's the articles she didn't write that are causing the issue?

It's such a ridiculous thing to feel annoyed or upset about in the grand scheme of the whole incident.

Just say you dont like her opinion or don't share it. The outrage and idea that everyone in the boardroom is being dictated to by Rachel Riley and Crafton is laughable, or that your own opinions and agency are being gazumped. It's just daft.

A loan to Roma is a bet as well given he's worked with Mourinho in the past.
You would have thought so,but didnt this incident start when mourinho was Utd manager? Or am i wrong timeline wise?

If so questions could be asked of mourinho and his staff at the time as to why they didnt do more to prevent the incident from occuring. Clubs are tasked for producing the best player they can to meet the needs of the club. But they also have a responsibility to educate and produce socially well rounded/grounded young men. Easier said than done, especially with all the money and fame that they get at such a young age.

I think mourinho will steer clear.

What a strange view. They are being professional and only answering the questions asked of them rather than making a public statement off their own back. Who's to say that if the circumstances were the same and they were asked about Qatar internally in the same manner they were about MG they wouldn't share their opinions?
Pathetic cop-out!!! That was the nazis excuse, we just did as we were told without asking questions. If the women's team want to make a stand against human rights abuse, be consistent. Its very easy to have high morals when it's someone else that suffers.

I'm pleased with your username - very apt.

No it was well after Jose. Jose was sacked, Ole came in and bedded Greenwood through more. Ole was then sacked, and in early days of Ralf the Greenwood news came out.

The nazis? Wow. I'm not sure where to start with this mess.

It's not anyone's job to right every wrong in the world because their employer asks them their view on one moral question and they give their opinion.

If we genuinely believed he was innocent then I think we should've kept him. Worked with him and educated and not given up on the whole situation. My point is that parting company due to the pr doesn't sit right with me, yes there's bigger attention than at other clubs but I don't think we should act on that

I actually think it is quite clear the boardroom are being dictated to by public opinion, which is driven by well known individuals making their views known. It could be that the club deliberately leaked the idea of Greenwood's return to gauge the reaction, and backtracked when they saw the uproar. The club almost said as much by saying that they think he didn't commit the crimes, but feel he would be better off elsewhere.

I am still waiting for these idiots to stand outside Old Trafford protesting against the Qataris for their human rights abuses, but they are clearly hypocritical idiots who will welcome the Qatari billions with open arms.

If the women's team were consulted, and they threatened to quit if Greenwood stays (as is rumoured), but they wont say anything about Qatar because they are just "doing their job", then that is the defence that the nazis used for following orders. Either take the moral high ground or don't, but be consistent. #saynotoqatar

This idea that foreign leagies, teams and fans won't care is just wrong, you don't have to be English or support an English team to abhor domestic violence. I don't see any team taking Greenwood right now.
Possible that they'll just be less aware and therefore a lot of people will be ignorant of what happened? I can't imagine the Greenwood news was a big story abroad.

So it's the people with the opinions fault or the clubs?

And you think Rachel Riley, not the MPs for example, who will have swayed them and deserve to be singled out so much more than any other of the (many, many, many) who didn't want greenwood back?

Then why were the same so called majority of fans welcoming Ronaldo back after his case and payoff agreement signed in Usa? I'll tell u why because the media didn't go after him with the same vigour as they did with Greenwood.
It was not the media picking favorites, Ronaldo simply did a much better job at 'handling' his case.

I think you're under rating the impact those social media posts that started it all had. If they hadn't been there then you could be right, but they were so powerful, they were seen everywhere.

For instance, I have Cambodian friends, who do not support United, who have been chatting about this and are well aware. Even if they don't know Journalists and advocators against Domestic Violence are in every country and will make sure everyone is aware the minute it looks like any deal maybe done. The posts can still be seen.

I agree with what you’ve written in bold. Said business having gone on statement saying they do not believe he is guilty of accusations then saying they are working on his exit would lead us all to believe that they are however being dictated to by an outside influence.

The decision certainly shouldn’t have been a democratic one.

On Riley, so it's the articles she didn't write that are causing the issue?

Thanks for proving you didn’t actually read my posts but simply found a subject you don’t agree with before unleashing your diatribe.

Firstly, had you shown me a picture of Rachel Riley a week ago, I would have said the girl off Countdown. I’m terrible with names anyway but had you asked me who she supported I could not have told you. I am not upset with her she is as irrelevant to me in this as Skepta who you mentioned.

You call them articles she didn’t write. This is my point about disingenuous nonsense that goes on here. Certain people may be but I am certainly not mad ‘about an article she didn’t write’. I used her comments that were picked up as an example of a famous United fan being used as a voice for the many.

I’m not sure what your issue is here in general.
Yeah thanks for picking up on Neville, what is it about him that is different from the rest I wonder?

Again, what are you about?

I’ve said the few being cast as speaking for the many is a problem, I’m not mad at Neville or Riley.

That's very true, if there is a lack of awareness, it will be highlighted as and when a deal is close to happening. I still think he will get a club but it's extremely difficult to know where but a new club could point to United's statement and say his previous club did a thorough 6 month investigation and deemed that he didn't do what he was accused. They can offer him and his family with support etc. to try a minimise the negative PR associated with the move. United have no wiggle room, British clubs have almost no wiggle room but there are probably some teams abroad that could justify the move as the pressure won't be as intense.

The only person to blame is MG himself for getting into the mess.
there’s a learning here for young players, you’re in the spotlight, behave yourselves or risk facing the consequences
So you can blame the women, Riley, Crafton, your cat, the bin man, the mods, the Tories, the man on the moon, brexit, god, Satan, Mickey Mouse or whoever. The person who needs to look in the mirror and reflect is MG

I think it is public figures like Rachel Riley who sway the masses (yes, probably more than MPs for example) that then influenced the club to let him go. Personally, I would have tried to reintegrate him, but I understand the club were put into a position where they felt that was impossible.

Criminals who have served their time should be allowed to reintegrate into society, and that is a fundamental concept of the British judicial system (yes I hear - what if it was your daughter, but they are engaged with a baby). To be clear, MG was never found guilty of any crime, and the club, who have more evidence than, you or I, or Rachel Riley, Crofton, MPs or anyone bar the police, made a statement to say that he did not commit the crimes he was accused of, then why is he being punished so severely? This is judgement by social media, and will result in a lot of high profile cases going wrong as the masses are baying for blood. It has happened in history with incorrect convictions to satisfy the masses, and will get worse with social media. We are setting a dangerous precedent here...

Is there not another thread for this discussion, I’ve put that one on ignore for my own sanity. I just want to come here to see when he’s going, who he’s going to and how much we’re getting for him.

Thanks in advance.

There were multiple reports that the women team were concerned and were fiercely against MG returning like months ago. The whole point here is I've never heard of such thing regarding the takeover. Not a single one. That's what should be considered strange here imo.

They haven't actually spoke publicly in both cases so of course so far what we know is based solely on what has been reported. Whether it's true or false or what's been missing here is impossible to be sure. So we could only base our discussion on what has been reported I think.

As an administrator you should know better.

The club themselves have said MG did not commit the crimes, so don't make accusations or insinuations that could land you in jail.

The club’s investigation and assessment is irrelevant. They are not impartial as he is a financial asset to the club, they only spoke to Greenwood and other third parties all of whom did not want this to go any further.

They admitted they did not have access to all the evidence so their opinion carries very little if any weight.

I'm surprised it's being allowed.

But then again, I guess the mods and admin are pulling their hair out (what little most of the old geezers have left anyway!) trying to read all this.

You mean the guy who released the statement admitting to the mistakes that started this?

Yeah, @golden_blunder sure is going to jail for agreeing with him. Christ almighty, you have some god awful takes and should never be promoted after bringing up the nazis in relation to the woman's team earlier.

He is easily a 100 million player going for peanuts. And that is why United were so reluctant to let him go as well.

It's about which club is Willing to bite the bullet. They will earn more than any momentary harm.

Funny way to look at it. MG himself said he’d made mistakes. For example he broke the condition that he wasn’t to go near the witness. Whether he has or hasn’t done anything else with girl is open to everyone’s interpretation.
He also has made mistakes in the past, getting sent home from England duty, breaking covid lockdown etc. he has a history of making bad choices. So yes, he should look in the bloody mirror.
I should add though that in fairness, so far he hasn’t looked to blame anyone else, that’s just you lot with your takes on it.

Now as others have asked, let’s keep this thread related to transfer news only.

there is another MG thread in the United forum if you want to discuss the rights and wrongs

He's missed a lot of playing time though, which clubs will need to factor in to the pr difficulties

Being asked to transfer out is not a severe punishment. United regularly asks players to transfer out for the "crime" of not being good enough for a club that wants to win titles.

Imo it would be difficult for him only if he's trying to find a club in the top leagues in Europe or North America.

Imo he should go to South America. The quality of football there is actually quite good, much less noise and also close to Jamaica if he decides to switch national team. The only obstacle is his wages imo. Not many clubs there could pay him 75k a week. Especially considering he hasn't played in the last 18 months. So he might have to consider lower his wages demand for a chance to play I think. A couple of years and he might return to Europe if he does well there and the noises cool down.

Our best bet is a one year loan- hope he smashes it and then sell him for decent money. If he fulfils the potential he showed with us then he will be one of the most sought after players in world. In a years time the heat will be reduced and he will have many clubs after him!

I don't see why he can't stay in Europe or North America tbh.

Their was whole furore over kobe Bryant at one time and he had a successful career.

It's about the club that wants to bite the bullet. They can get maybe ******* and him to do a interview together with baby in hand.

The ugliest argument that keeps popping up on this topic is the 'his partner has forgiven him' one. It's either extremely ignorant or deliberately disingenuous.

I've said over and over it's weird United didn't do that. I wonder why?

A club abroad might get away with it though, no matter the reason United didn't try.

The poster said he can't play in North America or Europe for some reason so I highlighted a similar most high profile case from past. And then kobe Bryant worked with many such charities too.

And u can label me whatever but I am not a fan of extra judicial punishments and mainstream media led social media courts in criminal cases.

If he's punished legally then fine no issues. But even then after serving the sentence he/she should get a chance at rehabilitation. And if I am not wrong there have been cases of footballers playing after their sentence even in the uk In lower leagues.

Absolutely.

Maybe the club could have done more to install that message into young players’ (sometimes) thick heads though. By many accounts an entitled, arrogant culture was allowed to develop among the academy and youth ranks, which the club (maybe as a consequence of the MG revelations) has been working hard to eradicate in recent times.

There was an article (or puff piece, if one is feeling cynical) in The Guardian a few months ago about how United are farming out youngsters to local lower league clubs in order to, among other things, keep them grounded.

I’m not blaming the club at all for MG being a cnut, but it’s good to see that the club is taking steps to eradicate the sort of culture that might encourage that sort of thing.
