Moises Caicedo | Chelsea agree £115M fee | signed for Chelsea

Well yes, obviously, but it was a very strange tactic to declare they wouldn't be pursuing Bellingham by playing the we don't have enough money card and then to buy an inferior player at a higher cost.

The overall cost of Caicedo will likely be much lower than the overall cost of Bellingham though. It's like pretending that Erling Haaland cost less than Nunez. Transfer fee is not the only factor to take in to account.

I agree, but you said he’d stay years and years?
If this works, they have the midfield sorted for 10 years. This still stands.
If he's a good player for them and another club wants to sign him, they will easily get the money back.

The only bad scenario is he's shit for Liverpool. Might be the case but unfortunately I think it'll be the opposite.

I haven't seen enough of Caicedo to be fair but he's seemed like a decent player. To be honest the likes of Rice and Caicedo shouldn't be going for fees anywhere close to 100m, never mind in excess of it. What would Salah, De Bruyne, Haaland, Bruno et al be worth now?

Also a Liverpool fan made a good point to me this morning. Why would you pull out of the Bellingham chase because of the costs involved and then turn around and break the British transfer record for Caicedo - who is clearly not on the same level, to be fair not many are.

It was to save face. Bellingham didn't want to join.

And has retrospectively made last season worse.
Absolutely. Would've worked out much better not getting Champions League so we could've sacked Ten Hag and got in a manager who would've prioritised this signing instead of spending a similar amount on Mason fecking Mount.

This place would have exploded if we bid the same amount as Scousers. Young player with a huge price tag. He will not be the first one to crumble under such pressure

How are the scousers going to try and bring this price down ? Every report I've read says it 110m.

It’s crazy how Utd and Liverpool fans are polar opposites. When Utd sign a player he is suddenly a national league level talent in the scousers eyes but when it’s the other way around Utd fans label him the next greatest ever.
This doesn't sound true. Check Caicedo thread, he was getting a lot of praise way before (especially by United fans as he played very well against us).

Man..., the underrating of DM is still there, even though big teams like us, Madrid, Arsenal, and Chelsea/Liverpool are willing to spend fortune for a good DM.

And fee 70m for Hojlund is as madness as 110m for Caicedo.

Its just madness. They saw how a dm transformed our midfield and somehow they are baffled that Arsenal and Liverpool are spending big on that position.

Price is ridiculous for a kid who had 1 decent season, may prove worth it in the long run but these are crazy days I am not sure I would be happy if we were looking at paying this sort of money for him

No one are underrating DMs, but £110m is too much. No one has ever paid £110m for a DM. The closest is Declan Rice who has played DM in Premier League for 5-6 seasons now. Caicedo has played one. We paid £60m for Casemiro, Madrid paid £85m for Tchouameni who had shown more than Caicedo (and is better), Chelsea's limit was £80m for Caicedo and Arsenal are just out of their minds. I'd get it if he was contributing heavily in attack as well, similarly to how Rodri does for City, but he doesn't, and it's almost a purely defensive signing.

Attackers generally go for more than midfielders/defenders, and it has always been like that. Lukaku cost us more than Højlund, and that is 6 years ago. It's really not that bad when you consider his potential.

It’s wild the cost of midfielders now. Enzo, Rice, Caicedo all look like good players with lots of growth still to come but the fact that you have to pay over a 100 mil for them is crazy. Bellingham I can somewhat understand as generally he looks cut from a different cloth compared to those 3 in terms of trajectory.

Probably going to take a while to get my head round these fees. Anyway from what I’ve seen looked a decent player if Pool go on to win things over the next 4 years and he is a part in that success who cares about the price.

Thats my take on big fees. If the player can reach his potential and help the team to trophies the fee does not matter. Same with Antony and Rasmus if they become important parts of a team that wins us trophies no one will care about their fees.

That’s a mental amount of money. Considering Bissouma only went for £25m a season ago and he looked pretty handy for Brighton at the time who has struggled at Spurs since.

But Caicedo goes to Liverpool and improves them instantly by a high margin. If this works then they are sorted for 10years.
Liverpool needed a DM and we needed a striker, each club adressed their issue. But let's not make it sound like Caicedo is more of a risk than Hojlund.

But that is the issue, he improves them hypothetically. We have to wait to see if that happens in reality, football is not played on paper and the whole sorted for 'x' amount of years thing rarely works.

He is just as much risk as the other, and I am not saying that it is not a logical transfer. I am just not getting the stupid reactions to this.

Good player, should hypothetically improve them, stupid money thrown around.

This place never fails to amaze me, now comparing Caicedo to Casemiro.

Casemiro, five time champions league winner and three league titles in his career. Came to United and was comfortably out best player despite people writing him off the moment we signed him, it showed every single game he missed just how good he was. Caicedo meanwhile has never won anything, never done it for a big club or felt the pressure of playing for a big club. Not even going to downplay him as there’s potential there for him to be absolutely quality and deliver for Liverpool, long way to go though and there’s levels to the game, which Casemiro has been playing and performing at the absolute highest level. Let Liverpool sign their player without being silly and comparing him to ours.

Every player can transform the midfield if they're fecking world class who has won 5 Champions League titles and been part of one of the greatest teams in existence ffs

He wasn't just any DM who had barely played professional football.

He might be young but's hes already proven over a season. And this is the pricing at the minute it seems.

Yes, a DM. Not 110m on a DM.
Nobody is saying it’s not an important position but there’s a difference between spending big on a position and paying a fee that leaves him as the 5th most expensive player of all time surely?

The big benefit he’ll bring to Liverpool is he’ll be able to cover the spaces Trent leaves as Caicedo is used to playing RB as well.

Wow. Liverpool just skipped few gears suddenly. Insane price.

Like seeing Armstrong give Ulrich the look on Alp d'Huez before jetting away from him, after feigning a tough ride in the saddle all day.

These fees are madness. Every decent player will command a £100m from now on.

Agreed. Also, some easily forgetting our most successful European era coincided with Carrick replacing Keane. A lesser player than Keane, but better at screening defence.

Bissouma was in the last year of his contract and we knew he wouldn’t sign a new one. Caicedo signed a new one in Feb this year, he’s also a much better player.

Also Bissouma’s fee was closer to 35 if you include the add ons.

I think this is such a key point, Cucurella is another.

Brighton have been so well coached over the last few years that all players know/knew there roles and how to fit in. It must make a player look way better than he would in a badly coached team (to prevent arguments let's say under Ragnicks United).
Can Klopp get the best system to work for MacAllister and Caceido ... probably but it could take time which at £100M+ fans and media may not afford him.
