So here's a question if given a choice of only one of the two, between £60m for Casemiro or £70m for FDJ (assuming he decided to come) who would you chose?

That's a tough one for me given the age disparity, but I'd probably go with Casemiro as we need a DM more than we need another ball playing midfielder.

Henderson
New RB - Maguire - Varane - Shaw (on form)
Casemiro - Fred
Sancho - Eriksen - Rashford
New ST

Could be real nice next year with Sancho / Rashford / Shaw finding some confidence again
I don’t like that team at all.

I’d be keen to understand why you think he’s particularly noted for professionalism (not saying I disagree, just that not something I’d heard to keen to read about it).
Maybe it's just me but I like his attitude on the pitch. He commits every time I've seen him play, and he doesn't seem to be troubled by much. He just goes about his day tackling the ball off people and doesn't take shit from them.

I think it says alot as well that he and Dani Alves have had their fair share of the captain's armband for Brazil.

Also, this article from The Guardian two years ago shows what type of person he is...

https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...l-madrid-defensive-midfielder-manchester-city

“It’s not the legs, it’s the mind that’s in charge. You have to be strong, aggressive: I like challenges, contact. But you play with your head; I always thought the key was thinking: being better positioned, seeing the move before it happens.”

He once told Jorge Valdano that he fights for every ball as if it were “a plate of food”. Casemiro’s mother Magda, a cleaner, brought him, his sister Bianca and brother Lucas up alone. They were poor, there wasn’t always enough food and their tiny home was cramped, forcing him to spend nights with his grandparents or staying with teammates to sleep properly before playing. He recalls Nilton Moreira, who ran the club a six-mile walk away, paying fees he couldn’t: about €3. Being given boots and food. And how joining São Paulo meant finally getting fed properly. “Football,” he says, “is an escape valve, a way of achieving something in life.”
Funnily enough, same article...

Casemiro recently watched Marcus Rashford’s campaign – “I really admire him, not just because he’s a great player but for how he used his position” – and links his own commitments at Save the Children Spain to a growing, welcome social conscience among footballers, insisting: “People suffering, ill, hungry, unclothed, doesn’t get seen; raising awareness is the right path.

“Everything I am is because of my mum, because of football. I was fortunate to find a way thanks to football: friends didn’t have that luck. Knowing how hard it was is why I do everything from the heart, 200%.”

Am I the only one that thinks this is just not good enough and we still definitely need another midfielder this summer as we terribly lack that creative sparkle that can control games which is definitely not Fernandes, it's a shame that pogba has gone if we do casimero, he would be the perfect dm to play with pogba in a midfield 3

I’ve been ignoring this thread as completely fanciful…but scrolling through it seems there’s actually something in this?! An actual top class DM? Could improve us no end, much more than De Jong in my opinion who is obviously a lovely player but I’m sick of watching our team get bullied.

De Jong easily. Yes, he’s not a DM but we could play out from any team pressing us, much younger and more progressive

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.

We will sign another CM. The key to Ed’s war chest has been found. Watch this space.

Reckon he'll be given the armband.
Maguire would be relagated to the bench. Varane and Martinez would start

Or we actually improve a whole lot with him as our current midfielder alternatives are shit.
I will be genuinely unimpressed if this goes through especially if we are paying £60-£70mil for a defensive midfielder. Paying that much for a deep lying unique talent like frenkie is one thing.

It just shows how utterly awful planning is at this club. Casemiro's long term replacement at madrid (the french lad) is the guy we should have targeted 8-12 months ago. Done all the wheeling and dealimg and smoozing in the background. Signed a player who has yet to get anywhere near his peak years rather than signing someone who has peaked and is on a downwards trajectory. Which is inveitable.

Last summer when there was talk of harry kane coming here, the forum moaned like crazy. Hes 29, over the hill, spurs have seen the best of him. Yet here we are with casemiro and we are gushing all over him.

Hes going to be giving up the chance of ever winning the CL again in his career. Never mind probably not playing in it for this and next season. All for a pay rise.

We pay £60-70mil for a 30year old, we deserve for him to become the next hargreaves or schweinsteger at Utd.

No you're not but people here seem to dismiss any argument based on watching actual games from Real Madrid week in and week out. It's either "he's too old" or "he's the best DM in the world", very few asking the real questions about how he'll fare in this disfunctional team without Kroos/Modric when he showed pretty big sign of inconsistency in la liga in the past 2 years and mostly forgettable performances with his NT.

if building a team from scratch, de Jong all day every day. But for our team, I’d argue we need Casemiro more right now.

Good post.

If he signs we will have a world class DM. One that can compete with anyone in the world.

City - Rodri
Liverpool - Fabinho
Chelsea - Kante
Spurs - Bissouma/Holjberg
Arsenal - Partey

The better teams have the better DMs. It’s pretty obvious really.

Yes he doesn’t solve all our problems but anyone who doesn’t feel this signing improves us massively is a complete and utter fool. It will make us much harder to play through and give the CBs world class support.
Agreed. One fix at a time. Next up; bribing match officials.

From where we are right now, Casemiro's level of inconsistency is paradise.

Thiago at Liverpool is 31

I wonder if their fans were complaining about his age when they signed him and complaining about the fit
