Slightly confused as to why United waited until the end of the window to get this done. They could've had Casemiro signed and ready to start against Brighton but are running around late on in the window trying to get a deal done.

By all accounts Ten Hag wanted Eriksen and De Jong in midfield as his first choice. Doesn’t matter if we get De Jong or not after this, we now know that midfield simply would not work.

I'd focus on players who are more self sufficient than Casemiro but that's not even the point. Casemiro could totally work at United, I'm not a fortune teller, but it'll greatly depend on what other midfielder United signs. Also when you're assessing the relevance of a transfer, you need to look at both sides of the coin, and Casemiro inconsistency really needs to be brought up because it was not obvious to a lot of people here who only watch foreign teams when they play in the CL (where Casemiro almost always shines).
Well, if we still use McFred in every matches until Jan, we may book the relegation already and ETH may be fired before Jan. Also, why the breakthrough stars who shines at the WC will choose us piror to RM, ManCity, Liverpool, Bayern, PSG who want him?
Also, a top potential player with young and hungry will cost more than Casemiro (i.e. 80m for Tchouameni) and no one knows whether that young guy will reach his potential fully or not / no one guarantee the player will not dream to RM or Barca after 1-2 years when Spanish club say hi.
We need players who can help us NOW to let new managers and new CEO to buy time for something.

I wrote this in response to someone in the thread but I've changed it so it's now a general comment to the usual suspects...
I'm getting sick of people saying "we should've bought *x* last year". Names thrown out simply because another team bought them this summer. Unfortunately we don't have a time machine and in case you hadn't noticed our scouting has been monumentally shite for a long time. Yes, it's shit but be practical ffs.
We have two options right now; keep our money and have a tremendously shit season where we're dominated by 19 teams who just press us until someone makes a mistake, or we swallow our pathetic pride and pay the money needed to get players that actually improve us. We don't have a third option, unless "chuck the money randomly at Football Manager wonderkids and hope for the best" is a viable strategy. We're bottom of the league, experiencing the same problems that we had last season because there's no leaders in this team. Long term this deal might hurt us but if the club doesn't actually do something NOW then our long term problems are the least of our worries.
This isn't a panicked reaction to two losses this season. This is the culmination of a decade of misdirection and falsehoods we tell ourselves that somehow these things will just turn out fine if we believe it in our hearts enough. Like Peter Pan but a shit version who can't pass to someone five feet away.

FDJ is not a defensive midfielder. We need a DM and FDJ/other ball progressor simultaneously.

Thaigo isnt a DM, hes a playmaker. Midfielseds who rely in their physical abilities often see a decline in their early 30s. Kante, Patrick Vieria etc etc

Often pretty bad would be an exageration. But he's often less dominant than what he is in the CL and can show real difficulties on the ball or have a tendancy to be late when he commits.
I'm on the fence with this signing but I don't know why some fans are so against other fans being quite abit wary of this potential deal.
