Yves Bissouma / Signs for Spurs

I’ve seen this before and even some people annoyed about it but let’s just look at the players;

heaton - free transfer
Varane - needed a cb and who is going to turn down one of the best in the world for 40m when the chance comes?
Ronaldo - opportunistic signing but who’s going to turn down one of the best goal scorers in the world and one who’s a living legend?
Sancho - the only player we perhaps could have left and went for a midfielder. But then, you’d have half the fans crying that we’ve been missing a RW for years

if people want to complain, look at the budget and ask why it’s the always the same, why can’t it be stretched for the final piece in a good side?
I'm not annoyed about it all at tbh with you mate. We had a fantastic window and the expectations are high right now and i'm hoping to see us perform with consistency.

I like Bissouma when I watch him however I'm not sure how he fits.

He seems to be everywhere on the pitch a bit - which I've not made my mind up is what we need.

Seems a bit box to box defensive type player again a bit like Mct/ or energetic pressing like Fred.

Seems like trying to improve McFred than trying to exactly replace Matic's role in the squad.

Maybe I'm wrong.

@The Boy what do you think?

Biss is more like McT than Rice. I think that a 2 man midfield of Rice and McT would be very effective for the way you play as would a pivot of Rice and Fred. Bissouma isn't as useful to you guys as many i this thread seem to think, he's great and I'd hate to see him leave, but he only gives you more of hat you already have, where as Rice offers a proper DM replacement.
I see what you're doing...

Sorry fella I wasn’t having a go at you , it’s just that I’ve seen that a bit this summer and the others have made negative remarks. Everyone’s a hindsight champion

See my post just a couple above, I agree Biss gives you more of what you already have in terms of Fred and McT where as Rice offers you a more like for like Matic replacement, it depends which one you want or need more.

I love Biss in our team and we do not play with an out and out DM, he's more likely to play alongside Lallana, Alzate or Mwepu in our midfield, but then we play with a back 3 and wing backs more often than not, so we do not need a full on DM player like Rice. I would argue you do. Though @Lash would point out I am just trying to put you off one of our best players and since Ole and your scouting team obviously read the caf I would say I'm doing a pretty good job!

McBiss may work, if we want 2 water carrier type of DM keep pressing and chasing the ball throughout 90 mins. That would add abit more urgency to our midfield, and they could just leave all the creative work to Pogba, Bruno and Sancho anyway.

The question for me is if he's any good, why is he still at Brighton? He won't be on loads of money so how longs left on his contract is less relevant. Brighton aren't a team with loads of cash and I'm sure that clubs like Everton, Villa, West Ham, Spurs or Arsenal who might have money, he'd start or offer cover....?

Why was Grealish still at Villa at 25?

It seems like there was plenty of interest in Bissouma but Brighton didn't want to sell for less than £50m.

I guess clubs saw he was running low on contract and thought they'd snag him for a lot less next year.

He turned 25 literally a couple of weeks ago, but to be fair he's been a bit of a late developer, he was very raw when he first joined us in 2018. Also we are financially quite healthy so in no way do we need to sell him to keep going. We put a price if 50M on him and wouldn't sell for less, as we did with White.

We have a replacement ready to go in Caicedo so are happy to sell if the right offer comes in, but obviously very happy to keep him as well.

As a Brummie, Grealish had a relationship with a team he supported, from that City and he played for since the age of 6/7. Even when they were relegated, he stayed at the club. It's completely different and took a record fee that I think even he was surprised when City paid it.

Didn''t Tottenham nearly sign him, but low balled? seems like he was available for the right price.

Rice is not a clone of McTominay. McT strengths lie in being a pure b2b. Rice is a pure DM
i'm not sure i completely agree 100% with that in the stand point that McT is a pure b2b and Rice is a pure DM.....Scott sits in the build up play just like Rice does and Rice tries to get forward when possible for both club and country.

here is why i think a guy like Yves would help whatever class u want to say b2b or pure DM.....he wants to get on the ball and can facilitate possession coming out of the defensive third as he doesn't shy away from being pressed. That is what this team is missing more than a "structured" midfielder however he is categorized or positioned. i think that was the intention when bringing in Donny but it hasn't worked out for some reason.

I’d agree that rice is capable of so much more but, more so for England, he does his job which is to guard an area of the pitch so others can do more attacking

If the recent Ole comments tell us anything its that he is not looking for a specialist DM. For me Rice has proven by now that he is a capable trouble-shooter, and his passing seems to have improved this season (though this may be down to a good patch of form). When United are looking at Rice we will be assessing whether he can bring things to the team outside of simply being a DM, and he will undoubtedly be expected to cover larger areas of the pitch if he comes here.

i think Ole looks at say liverpool or city and they use more water carrier type of CM's that will do all the dirty work and have the legs to do it. that seems to be the model that works best in the premier league which again is why i think Bissouma fits our needs better than Rice as he's able to cover more ground and harrass. McBiss would be a much more effective midfield just like many of us thought Camavinga would have been a good addition to our midfield. He has that same bite and defensive work but just a bit more cultured going forward.

Give me two guys that can run their socks off, can be dogged for 90 minutes yet still be comfortable enough on the ball to connect between our back four and our front four.

Just read the bindippers have an agreement for a January sale? In the echo, we need to get this boy before them

Didn’t think that was allowed in the PL? Good luck to him as I believe. Rice has the higher ceiling

We missed the trick here....we should have got ths guy when Carmaviinga moved to Real, he could have made 3 man field with Bruno/Pogba. Matic/Fred are really out of sorts and we were in desperate need of a promer DM

Ive only seen snippits of the echo but it seems about as accurate as MEN, in that it isnt. At all.

Yeah worrying to read that especially when we are very likely to be priced out for Rice

Amazing that all these fans think he's 'the answer' yet no one club from the prem can see it? Not like Brighton aren't a selling club? If he was that good, why is he still there?
For the same reason Mahrez stayed much longer at Leicester after Kante yet it was bleedingly obvious he belonged at the top end of the table too.

Rice like Matic? Matic can pass a football. Rice is a CB in midfield.

So how was Bissouma in the 1-1 draw vs Crystal Palace?
