No but he was better overall which is again far more important than peaks
I’d argue he was perhaps more impactful for Utd due to his longevity, doesn’t mean he was a better player though. When I say better player I mean the players peak and overall ability level. I don’t think many Utd players get near Ronaldo under those metrics!

fair point, I don't dislike Ronaldo and think he has improved as a player since he left us, I just personally don't think he is our best ever player, simple as that.
Fine for you to think that. Who do you think has peaked the highest for Utd though?

It does. For the same reason that Giggs was a better player at United than RVP. Rooney had a brilliant peak (in 09 he matched Ronaldo 's goal tally) and then a consistent record breaking career at the club to boot.

Yep. God forbid anyone believe our all time top goal scorer and second highest assist maker is our best player.
You might have wanted him to be, but he wasn't. While they were playing in the SAME TEAM, one was clearly better than the other.
Not to mention their career paths afterwards.

This is very subjective but I would actually like to meet Rooney and have a drink with him. For all the weird things that he has done, he sounds like a normal person.

Agreed - actually.

And the same argument applies tenfold if you bring someone like Bobby Charlton into the discussion.

To claim that Ronaldo was a better player for United, all things considered, than Bobby Charlton is absurd in my opinion. So, no - he isn't the best player we ever had.

We really ought to have bought RVP.5 years earlier.. oh well.

But we literally watched both Rooney and Ronaldo compete directly in the same team. If I said to you, we can erase only one of those players between 2005-2009 you’d choose Rooney 100 times out of a 100. Ronaldo was just that good. Again there’s a reason why in a 6 year spell he’s considered possibly the best ever premier league player.

The best player i have seen play for United and will always be a United legend.
If he goes to City fine i wish him luck it won't change a thing about his time for us

Who peaked the highest and who is the player with the most ability to play for Utd?

I have never mention peaked, you have its all you seem to mention, being the best is not about peaks, I would put Dennis Irwin in my top 10 , he never had a peak, he played at a very high level ALL THE TIME, always gave his very best, never let you down, something that cant be said about Ronaldo.

Exactly, it’s actually not even close. I guarantee if you ask any fans in the world who they would choose between Ronaldo and Rooney, Ronaldo wins every day of the week.

Everyone's having like three different arguments. Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs are better United players than RVP & Ronaldo, sure. Of course, they dedicated their careers to being here and had immense success personally and in terms of the teams they were integral to.

Ronaldo can be said to be the most talented/"best" player to have played a meaningful amount of games in a United shirt. It's not like he was here the same way Beckham was loaned to Preston North End, Fat Ronaldo spent time at his fattest at Milan or Nolan Ryan won a ring with the Mets as a neophyte; the guy made his bones in a United shirt and has gone on to have a pantheon career.

I don't see these arguments canceling each other out, just two different conversations.

I would choose Rooney and isn't Henry considered the best PL player ever?

Who peaked the highest and who is the player with the most ability to play for Utd?

That's a toss up between several players.

And involves comparing very different eras.

Ronaldo is clearly in the mix - no doubt about that.

But it's not obvious at all.

I think Henry is considered the best again due to a combination of longevity and ability but I think most people would say for peak and ability Ronaldo is the best to have played in the league.

They are “offering” him to us? They know full well we can’t afford him. And when we “reject” him he signs for City and blames us for not signing him in the first place.

Yup. Nice little PR move.

Ronaldo has been offered to Utd. We have 0 excuse if we don't do it and he goes to City.

I want this to be true mostly because I don’t want to see him in a City shirt, but also because he’s actually a much better option than players like James (not that he will be playing out wide) and Martial who seem to be starting for us atm.

What does that have to do with being Manchester United’s best player?

Unbelievable that United doesn't want to jump in. Great move marketing wise, great example for the younger guys, he has a huge drive to win and also denying a big rival of acquiring him. To me the pro's massively outweigh the cons here. So, so stupid. Honestly I could hardly blame him if City are the only suitors here, although I'll hate him with a passion if he does go there. Just not as much as I'd hate Uniteds board.

Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Manchester United are among the clubs contacted in an effort to discover whether he could fit into their plans for the summer transfer window.

https://www.espn.com/soccer/soccer-...nsfer-interest-despite-juventus-talks-sources

ESPN reported back in March 2021 we were offered Ronaldo. Considering Mendes offered Ronaldo to PSG and Madrid - we know that because they publicly had to shoot down rumours - it is quite obvious he was offered to us too. This link to City has ONLY come after Kane transfer fell through.

PSG, Madrid and seemingly United have turned him down.

I think Henry is considered the best again due to a combination of longevity and ability but I think most people would say for peak and ability Ronaldo is the best to have played in the league.

Why? Ronaldo didn't play his best years at United or in the PL.

In the PL, was Henry 02/03 season worse than Ronaldo's best season? On the field I don't think pick Henry was inferior to peak PL Ronaldo and statiscally Henry had a better season with 24 goals and 20 assists.

He is a legend, I don't even think that's remotely contraversial to say. One of the very few Ballon D'or winners we've had at the club - Law, Best, Charlton, Ronaldo - of course all of them are legends. He was instrumental in multiple trophies as well as influencing only our third ever European cup, scoring for us in the final.

If you personally don't see him that way, that's your prerogative but if you don't think he's widely regarded as a legend then you're the minority, not the other way round. His song is still sang regularly and with passion.

No idea who you think you are either to be the gatekeeper of what people feel about our ex players. Some no mark on the Internet doesn't want people thinking of him like that? Right.....

No love for Michael Owen huhh?

Actually doing this transfer is right in the Glazer wheelhouse, it'd be comparable to the Tom Brady signing with the Buccaneers.

«if you want to know the road ahead, ask the person that's been there»
