Was waiting for this from you.I agree Di Marzio is one of the two most reliable in the world. However his info raises even more questions now as our supposed "three targets" are in the wind. Nothing is making sense.
Belotti won't be sold for less than his clause which is a ridiculous amount he's not worth. I haven't seen anything from him to suggest he's better than Lukaku.
The Belgian isn't the greatest striker in history but the problem is the lack of strikers on the market.

This. As I understand it Griezmann has a release clause and we (or anyone else) could trigger it by giving him the money to buy himself out of his contract. But the transfer ban means that if he leaves Atletico wouldn't be able to replace him until January at the earliest, and he might feel that he owes them enough to stay. It might also reflect badly on us and our relationship with Atletico if we poach a player when there's no chance of them getting a replacement. So it could be that all parties have agreed to wait and this is just PR.
Why exactly would the club brief something negative? They could have briefed saying the deal was close and it would have generated similar buzz. I'm sure Griezmann is frothing at the mouth to join a club who apparently has Morata and Belotti above him.

Admittedly if he still hasn't brought Mourinho's targets in when the rest of the squad have started playing, it starts to become a worry.Last summer is looking like a blip in an otherwise crap record under Woodward. That is hardly any different from how we have ligned up this season. Beside having maybay a minor upgrade in midfield that is just changing names but not upgrading quality.
We need someone like Griezmann to make our attack less one dimensional. We need someone to slid through defences like an eel who is also prolific in front of goal. If we aren't getting that and will just lign up the same way we did all season we will just have the same problems as we had this season and 6th place will be our faith again.
We need to fecking massively improve our attack in any way we can, how hard is that to grasp ? If we are going to spending a fortune on players that will not improve us, might aswell not bother at all and just go with the same team as this season...
It's got nothing to do with the fee or Ibrahimovic's injury or prioritizing other positions. We don't know whether it was us or the player that pulled the plug (or if we had an agreement to do so) but it's clear that the deal was dependent on Atletico overturning their registration ban. That hasn't happened, so we'll probably come back in 2018.
I still think Mourinho is balls deep in for Mbappe, but convincing him is proving to be tough.

Signing only one striker like Lukaku to replace Ibrahimovic will not be enough. We'll have the same problem of not scoring enough goals. That's why we need a goalscoring number 10 like Griezmann.

If you combine BBC's griezmann story with Di Marzio's list yesterday, the two most reliable outlets in the transfer business. Nothing makes any fecking sense.
IF we believe both those outlets, our first two targets are either staying (Mbappe) or going to another club (Morata), and now the third target (griezmann) is no longer a target because we are looking for a CF.

Care to explain why? I've not seen a great sea of Belotti and the small amounts I have he's been average.

Di Marzio is way more reputable than anyone on this forum and he says we want Morata more than Griezmann, so therefore, I think that deal might happen and Griezmann won't, sadly.
Yep, I think he's the obvious target now. Pretty gutted if we don't get Griezmann though but I think this has some legs yet, bare in mind that this all comes out on the same day the Atletico ban appeal is rejected. There's a strong chance we are playing games here.
Mbappe is not a number 9. He is just like Griezmann, a second striker, and he will not guarantee us 25+ goals a season.
In my opinion, we should go for Morata. Comparing to Lukaku, he's cheaper, better technically and faster. About Belotti, I'm really sceptical about him, and I don't like strikers from Italy. Add that on the top of the 100 million release clause.

This not going in for Griezmann because we are needing a replacement for Zlatan is a bit ridiculous. Zlatan hasn't signed for another year and has always been up in the air. He has actually been injured for a while now...this is not new news. Also, surely the transfer ban on Atletico is also not out of nowhere and has surely been part of everyone's thought process...including Griezmann. If we have, in fact, been going for Griezmann like we have been led to believe we have, then there is no reason that all the sudden we would drop interest because of Zlatan's injury or Atletico's ban.
It's a big mistake. We'll be no better off up front, so we can expect another tough slog for top 4 next season if we're relying on signing a striker to replace Zlatan. We may need a striker but we need both really. Money isn't infinite, but we should have been willing to spend to acquire both I think in order to progress.
