Even with our injuries we should be controlling this tie and winning comfortably. Young, Rooney and Mkhi on bench can cover most positions and are fit.

    -------------------DDG-----------------
    Tony V - Tuanzebe - Blind - Darmian
    -----------Carrick -- Herrera --------
    -----------------Pogba-----------------
    Lingard ----------------------- Martial
    -----------------Rashy-----------------
I wouldn't be putting Carrick in there, he is not good against teams that press. Fellaini can play as not banned in EL.

Mata and Lingard to come on.

Hard to tell whether Jose will stay with Romero or bring De Gea in, especially since he's now acknowledged that we're going all out for this competition. I'd go:

    -------------De Gea------------
    Valencia-Darmian-Blind-Young
    -------------Herrera-----------
    --------Fellaini---Pogba--------
    Lingard------------------Martial
    -------------Rashford----------

Introduce Mata in the second half. I'll probably be more nervous for the next 3 EL games than any game since the 2011 CL final. There's so much riding on them.

We are going to loose this...

They are rested + our injury situation is just insane. Even if we find a few player who aren't injured they won't be fresh & ready at all.

On the other hand Celta have been playing their 'B-XI' in La Liga in recent weeks as their coach has announced they will focus on the EL. A 1-1 draw would be nice as it leaves us in the position that they have to score at OT, however, I am not confident at all - the lads seem done...

Celta are a team that closes down quickly so our players will not have time on the ball at all. I can see this game being similar to how Liverpool and Man city played against us at home. A lot of our players struggle against teams which close players down quickly so we need players like Herrera and Carrick who can receive and pass the ball quickly. I can see us struggling in this game and we will be lucky enough to come away with a draw.

But otherwise Rooney played well. Certainly an option up front.
I think he did as well, I am not sure how to handle Rashford here. Jose has the data on player fatigue so Rashford with Mkhi in behind would be the sensible option I think. One of them needs to be rested for Arsenal I think.

I'm expecting an ugly draw. Any spawny away goal without some form of rout for Celta will be crucial.

We need Pogba to play a big role on Thursday, need to contain this one and don't see how we do if we the midfield can't shield that makeshift back line.
Sorry, one player can't score, defend and play midfield at the same time.

On the other side this really suits Rashford and Lingard who can run into space. With the current players i rather play against a team pressing high then sitting deep.

In theory, Pogba, Fellaini, Mata, Mkhi, and even Martial to an extent should all be relatively fresh. Darmian, Blind and Young shouldn't be gassed either. I do worry about our squad in terms of freshness, but not for this game. It's the weekend game with 2/3 days rest that has me worried.

But that player can control the midfield, giving platform for our attackers to attack. Pogba was a big miss in all the games.

Mata just comes from an injury so I don't expect him to be fully match fit. Pogba might feel a bit of missing rythm too. Martial & Mkhi haven't been at their best this season/recently + Fellaini is always a kind of a 'miracle bag'. Guys like Young are the only ones I am quite confident about - he has always shown the passion to play for United and he knows that this could be the time to make his impact.

Pogba completed full 90 mins on April 23rd, He missed just 1 week of football. No way he will be missing rythm. It's as good as giving 1 week rest for any player.

We definitely need at least 1 away goal, but we need to make sure we go into the home leg with atleast a draw. They're going to throw everything at this home leg especially with our defence in a shamble.

I think go defensive like against City, they won't break us down.

Agree with this. Fatigue shouldn't be an issue for this particular game. Maybe Rashford and Valencia could be feeling it but the rest should be ready to go.

Implying that Fellaini is good against teams that press? :p

I'd play Herrera and Pogba behind Mkhi/Mata.

I worry for our team and this game against a fresh and young team that has beaten the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona. We have looked quite lethargic in the past month and the number of games combined with injuries has definitely taken its toll on us. They on the other hand have been resting their first team players quite a bit and I think Mourinho will need to pull out a tactical masterclass again if we are to progress in the competition. Over 2 legs though I think we will do just enough

Have to play Fellaini unfortunately. The squad is spread too thin as is, I'd certainly agree with you in an ideal world, but Fellaini needs to play in the EL to allow other plays a rest.

I would be shocked if we won this game. I think scraping a draw isn't unrealistic, but all the cards are in Celtas favour for this home game.
    • Players rested
    • Home tie
    • Underdog
    • Game raising club
    • United injuries and lack of rest for key players
    • Uniteds backline in disarray due to injuries
They really should be getting a win with these conditions, so getting a draw would be imo a very good result all things considered. What we simply cannot afford to do is pick up any suspensions for the Home Tie given that we're down to our bare bones, every player counts at the moment.

For all the grief Pogba gets we look a different side without him in midfield. The game against west brom and then Swansea you could see that we needed him. Whether we are winning 1-0, drawing or losing Mourinho should take him off around the 70th minute on Thursday. We are doing to him what arsenal did to Sanchez last season by over relying on him.

The amount of people that already rolled over and died is pathetic. We are Man United ffs.

Which of our players are running the risk of suspension?

    Are we?
We certainly haven't looked like it in the 4yrs since SAF left.

The way we've played for the most part this season gives any team the chance to upset us, as has happened on numerous occasions hence people are pessimistic.

Celta Vigo are infinitely better than some of the dross that have taken points off us this season.

The score predictions chart is so easy to um...predict.

Good result previous game? Slither of wins for the opponent, fraction more backing a draw, massive area of green 95% back United win.

Bad result previous game? WE'RE DOOMED!!!

It's the same every single time.

Celta have lost the last 3 games so they're not in great form at the moment. However, they did beat Barcelona 4-1 at home earlier in the season, so it's not an easy place to go.

I'll take a draw and a win at our place, please.

Play a simple game and make sure that we score at least one goal by end of it,non scoring draw or loss would put too much pressure on our home tie so we just need to score and no more injuries or suspensions at the end of the game.
