This is from the official FIFA 2017 Laws which you can find at http://pressbox.mlssoccer.com/sites/default/files/Laws_of_the_Game_2016_2017_Neutral.pdf

Handling the ball involves a deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball with the hand or arm.

Handling the ball

The following must be considered:

• the movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand)
• the distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball)
• the position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is an infringement
• touching the ball with an object held in the hand (clothing, shinguard, etc.)

is an infringement

There was NO deliberate act to make contact with the ball with his hand
Movement of hand was NOT really towards the ball even though it was in the air
Position of the hand is irrelevant as Pog was so lost at the time he was in a ballet "spin"

So there is a reasonable argument the penalty was a poor if not incorrect call but one most refs in the heat of the moment are going to call
Question is why he had his hands up like that. It's daft.

Here's where your argument falls down though. His hands weren't just randomly in the air, he put them up for a reason...

Honestly, you will never see a more blatant penalty. Why the hell are people saying otherwise?

I've ignored all Liverpool fans I've come across on redcafe. But I'm guessing one is irritating people because all I can see are people arguing at nobody
He will go on until he gets the ban. He has every intention of getting one it seems.

Too many people put so much stock into current form and forget how it's really like going into high profile matches.

These matches are always played tight with half chances and fine margins. Neither team played their best, but they weren't going to when it started. It was cagey, congested and compact.

Understanding that playing within yourself and letting the game come to you is imperative. Pogba failed in that respect today.
It could quite easily have been a pasting for Liverpool, when we very much under performed. Pogba and Miki could and should have put us well in front in the first half. The fact they scored has given the Liverpool fans some thought of belief that they played well. As for the quips about long ball, I am assuming they didn't watch the game. Significant amount of long ball and hoof ball from them.

Wasn't it something like 20 v 19 in long passes? Getting his knickers in a twist, Kloppo?

Well whoever he is, I'd say pity him. If he has nothing better to do than go on a rivals message board and taunt people, then he clearly doesn't have much going for him

And it's school tomorrow, so he's probably cranky about that too

At least United are top of the league in something. The most long passes this weekend.

Well done Jose .
It was tactics from Jose. Long ball game should have been our tactics from pretty early on in the game. Liverpool were brilliant with they're pressing and completely nullified our midfield.

2 points dropped. Pogba couldn't handle the occasion but am not blaming him. He will learn from this. We really need to stop this missing chances syndrome. That Mkhitaryan was should have been a goal. end of.

Liverpool played okay, but they had a lead for quite awhile so they were playing for a big skin. And they played with fire and had to cope with those runs behind their line, but it didn't cost them. United played more direct and that was the correct approach. The midfield was flooded, Herrera and Pogba had no time to make incisive, meaningful passes into the attacking third there was a highlighter wall.

Nah...

I watched the game and the highlights and we should have won that comfortably.

We scored from open play and they got a penalty from possibly the worst attempt at a header I can ever remember.

We had most of the possession and more passes in midfield and transitions into our attackers which completely undermines your comment about pressing.

Worst part of our midfield today was Pogba having a shocker.

Liverpool are ferocious at this pressing lark!!!!

Even into the 80th minute, their midfielders were snapping at the heels of Rojo and Jones and forcing them into errors. I was both impressed and envious at that work rate think Klopp deserves alot of credit.

I agree with you: against such a skilled proponent of the gengen, Mourinho should have set us up to go long ball from the beginning. Started with Rashford for his height, and replaced Carrick with mhki. Im convinced we have taken the lead and then it's a totally different game.

Not often Mourinho gets it tactically wrong

This. It was regularly three yellow shirts on a red shirt, so the long ball was the best way to by pass that.

People are saying he had a shite game not that he's shite. Tell me how they are wrong? I must admit though that for a world class player(which he is IMHO) his finishing has been utter rubbish not only today but all season.
I am not saying that those who said that he had a shite game are saying he was shite.

I am talking about the ones who have actually called HIM shite and a fecking "Fraud".

Because there has been, which is why I said it...Make sense?

Just got back home watched the MOTD2 and the SKY Sports punditry, don't know why I do it to myself, really angry now, made out Liverpool were brilliant.

Liverpool nullified a lot of our play, but in doing so created very little of consequence, if Pogba hadn't needlessly handed them a penalty then Liverpool would have come away with nothing, we had clear opportunities to score 3-4 goals and were easily the dominant team for the majority of the time, we beat ourselves today, could have won, should have won.

Can't help but like Klopp though even though I wish I didn't, if he can get that squad into the position they are in, imagine what he could do with a decent team!

For all their pressing we were still creating some good moments and should have made more ruthless. They have a pretty weak defence and I think Jose was just hoping a breakthrough would arrive a bit earlier, and it would have been a different game.

Carrick just hasn't worked with pressing teams for a few years.

Miss by Pogba followed by his handball messed up the whole game for us, in terms of heartland etc. If Pogba scored, he'd have been confident and I think we'd have smashed them.

Which is why I'm so frustrated with Pogba today. Not only personally disappointing, it also affected entire team plan and performance

The reason I'm not so down is after being down for a long time the goal came as a relief. Overall it was a disappointing day.

Seems to me we tried to nullify the Gengen with pass and move, and more or less failed to do it well enough to equalise. Hats off to Klopp for winning the tactical battle and to Jose for not going long ball from the get-go.

Of course now Klopp has shown everyone how soft we are without Carrick, everyone will be doing this.

There were hardly anyone protests from United players or fans at the ground.
Yep and you can bet Jose would have mentioned it in his post match presser if there had been any doubt at all.

It was a moment of madness from pogba and he had a poor game but some Utd fans are slaughtering him which is way ott. Plenty of top players have done stupid things in big games.

Bollocks .
Sad to say, I have to agree. He had not right sticking his hands in there.

We let ourselves down today and played into there hands. Should've been more direct from early on. Nobody would give a damn if we were called out for long balls and less than pretty play if we were to win. Also, Pogba, what a let down today (not mainly because of the hand ball, more so that he played a terrible game of football)

Earth to Man Utd fans.

Set your expectations a bit lower this season. Maybe you won't cry and complain over today's performance.

Claiming the moral victory for playing 'prettier football'? >>>blows the dust off the Arsene Wenger award.

United far from their best, but created far more chances to win the game. Stupid penalty to give away, but Liverpool didn't create much else of note.

Don't worry, scousers, it will be 27 years soon enough.

Disappointed tbh.
They were there for the taking & then Pogba gifts them a lead that halted the momentum we were building in the game. Pfft.

Still , we carved them wide open at times pogba , ( different game if that goes in ) mikhi , one on ones & mkhi failing to set Martial up for a tap in. Liverpool got the rub today , lovrens short backpass ending on top of the net ( feck knows how lovren got motm over mignolet ) whereas the only thing they created that really troubled us , was the coutinho set up . Ddg was pretty redundant. They had very little goal threat against a chasing team. Thats poor on their behalf.

Hopefully we'll meet in the league cup final & do the job properly. You just cant give decent teams a goal start.

Still disappointed at this. We should have put away our chances and we gifted them that penalty.

I hope they put Southampton away and we get them in the LC final.
