Louis van Gaal | Manchester United manager

Maybe Moyes had a philosophy and the players simply ignored him. Who's to say they won't do the same to LVG?
So far I'm not seeing any difference apart from that weird 3-5-2.
In fact we're worse that last season.

Its been three games and we are at the "LVG has no plan?!" stage already?

As I said, if we dont see any improvement in a few months it will be a different story, in the meantime LVG is a proven manager who has a successful record at top clubs, and had an excellent World Cup with Holland. To suggest otherwise is embarrassing.

He is downright bizarre in the fact that he doesn't rate our wingers, fair enough, but then he will happily plays the likes of Young and Valencia as wing backs which is an unusual role to them and that they have struggled in. They may be shit wingers but they are still wingers and know their role there in a 4-3-3.

I bet Steve Claridge is one of those dads that rubs it in once the child does something wrong. No point battering a dead horse. He signed the autographs because maybe he felt that's the least he could do. It's not that he's trying to show his popularity.

I'm wondering why anyone gives a shit what Steve Claridge has to say.

To be honest, the cry for him to stand up and shout at the touchline are ridiculous given his accomplishments. He can handle that tiny part of managing a huge football club like this any way he wants.

Let's just have a bit of patience with him. It's still early days. Not convinced by the 3-5-2 though.

At the end of the season I hope that patience will pay off, but there's nothing else for us to do than trust the man's vision at this point.

I said it months ago, I said it weeks ago, I even said it yesterday...

We will see it coming together from Christmas on! It's not gonna happen right away!

However, there is no excuse for that tonight!

Alot of players to go in very short time though, that's a bit of a worry for me.

Reckon if we get 2 more in we'll be looking to sell Hernandez, Welbeck, Kagawa, Cleverley, Zaha, Young, & Fellani (unlikely), this on top of the youth we will look to loan out, that's alot of business to do in a very short timescale.
It is. It needs to be done though, at least to some extent.

Will the transformation be for the good of the team????? If we spend years buying players and building a team to play 3-5-2 what happens when our 62 year old manager retires soon(ish)??? I can't think of any other top manager who would play 3-5-2 and this could end up meaning when the time comes to find someone new, we have to start from square 1 again.

Nothing has changed for me with regards to LVG tonight. I completely trust in him to transform us for the better. But it will take time. Months to even a year or two.

baha. So what's the point then? The club is top 5 biggest and richest in the world. Barca, Madrid, Munich wouldn't wait 2 years.

Look at that for a picture! Looks like he just seen a ghost. I will never see LVG in the same way again.

That's the f*cking media for you. 99% of them haven't got a damn clue.

That was because the players had just won the league 3 months earlier and were still filled with Fergie's motivation and passion.
What LVG has now is what Moyes left him.

A terrible excuse if I ever heard one.

What Moyes got isn't all that much different to what LvG got and just call a spade a spade ffs.

Let's be logical shall we? This team will never EVER player again together. We needed to play a team which had a little bit of experience but at the same time we loads of injuries. Add to the fact we've just played a match less than 48 hours ago. Would you rather risk further injury?

Hernandez, Welbeck, Anderson, Evans and DDG. The spine of the team were fit and were experienced. The team fecked up. This system can work but it needs time and as it has been said time and time again. It's different from anything any of these players have ever played before.

Once they get it right, it'll be a much better sight. Holland, if not a little boring sometimes, had a wonderful defence with average players. So this means that the system works. If that is the case, we will need time to make the same situation.

Let's face it, the first couple of months, will be shite. The real change comes after. Whatever formation he used anywhere else, 4-3-3? It took time. So regardless of system, our lads have to buck up and get their shite together.

On the Holland part do you not think that the slower nature of the World Cup given players are tired and it was hot/humid helped play in to Holland's hands? I think it definitely helped. Although I could be remembering wrong.

On the earlier part agree with the premise but I still thought it was a formation that doesn't suit this bunch of players. As solid as Holland were they really relied on Robben to go as far as they did. ADM might do that for us (though I hope we change the system) but in the opening games without that sort of player and in general players not known for their composure on the ball (and in some cases some are reluctant to really have it but made to i.e. Smalling).

Today as well I think he got the subs wrong. We lost all shape and conceded the midfield at a time where we needed to try and get on top of it.

Teams in the past? yes and I've been reading about this guy since I was a kid.. one of my all time coaching and managerial idols. He's an absolute fruitcake, literally thinks of the game in such an unorthodox way but essentially there is always an underlying plan to his decision-making.

For example, he probably already knows James wilson is better than Hernandez, but he will persist with Hernandez for now just to prove to himself his judgement is right. He's batshit crazy.. but with time, he nearly always comes up with the goods. Expect more of the same, in relation to shit results until the new players get bed in.

Anyone else predict 5-0 to MK Dons, missed out by one goal :(

Well lets hope that contiunes here! I'm more then willing to give him the time he needs, just wish I'd see some sort of improvement in our play!

I also do not buy into this take time crap either. Roberto Martinez and Mauricio Pochettino shows that you can implement a working philosophy in fews months of pre-season training. Van Gaal is just covering his ass at the moment with the notion that it takes time. He had us playing great football in pre-season, but since Welbeck got injuried we seem to have lost that mojo. Since then some of the players we have to get rid of(Hernandez, Cleverley, Fletcher, Young, etc.,) did not step up and we persisted with players who seems to not like playing with each other.

Van Gaal has the easiest fixture ahead of him of all our rivals club. I expect nothing but to be in contention for a champion league place after our next 5 fixtures.

You would think that men who describe themselves as professional footballers would be able to play any formation.
It would if the team had individuals who could bail them out of trouble but we had a lot of inexperience in dealing with the kind of adversity seen tonight

I think the point is in 5-3-2 he can play mata behind rvp and rooney, you're saying you'd prefer young valencia and rooney to mata rvp rooney? Now it can be di maria rooney young or whatever, we have some quality and confidence

baha. So what's the point then? The club is top 5 biggest and richest in the world. Barca, Madrid, Munich wouldn't wait 2 years.
They certainly would if they signed a new manager into the mess that our club is currently in. Caused by a lack of quality signings in the past 3/4 years. Sir Alex not rebuilding the team in his final years and leaving it in a mess. David Gill leaving. And David Moyes' year. It will take that long. Bottom line. If you don't like it I suggest you go and support another team.

I don't doubt that, what worries me is that Christmas time may be too late. I'm not thinking about the title, I'm thinking about the top 4. All of our rivals (Liverpool, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Everton) all look as if they're a few gears ahead of us already.

I'm patient with LVG, and there's not an ounce of me that believes he's over his head. I just hope he realises that he doesn't have the squad for a 3-5-2. The sooner he realises that, the better.

I think those cries are ridiculous regardless of his achievements.

Exactly.

Can he get it back? These players look shot.

Fergie was their kryptonite!

The problem is that Fergie was a genius, what he did with this group of players was nothing short of astonishing.
Its going to be hard for LVG to get most of these players back to how we were under Fergie, simply because two thirds of our squad are not good enough and certainly shouldn't be playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Today as well I think he got the subs wrong. We lost all shape and conceded the midfield at a time where we needed to try and get on top of it.

Agree with that. Also felt he made the subs at the wrong time v Sunderland, just when we were getting a foot hold in that game he changes everything and we struggle to retain any meaningful possession!

All I want is 4 at the fecking back in all honesty.

Spurs have a settled squad that have been together for at least two seasons, City have limitless funds;why are we comparing

If the results don't change soon then enough of the players will stop buying into this 352 philosophy. The players have all the power these days.
