Patience tards, patience.. I guarantee 2 months down the line, it will be 4-3-3 and alot of players will be either bombed out or banished. He knows what he is doing.. there is method to his madness.

Agreed. He's only been here 5 minutes. I reckon we are in for a major overhaul but it might be too late to offload a lot of players at this time. Maybe we'll see many go out on loan and some may even come back better players. For others though, it's time for the P-45s to get written up.

We need a World Class CB (Hummels) and CM (Vidal). We also need to change to a 4-2-3-1/4-3-3.

After at least half a season of it. Why is everyone being so willfully beligerent about that?

Are there loads of Moyesites desperate to stick the boot in or something? LVG is a completely different kettle of cod and has been here for 5 minutes.

I don't give a shit about Moyes, only mentioned him in reply to another poster's comment. It doesn't change the fact that I think LVG's comments were daft.

- Janujaz at right wing back v Swansea
- Ashley young at left wing back - no manager in the world would ever play Ashley young there!!
- Wrong formation today, there was no need to play 3 at the back
- Wrong substitutions tonight

Overall not impressed at all. He's trying to shoehorn players into a shit system and its not working at all. I'm not calling for his head - just pointing out his flaws from my point of view so far.

This. Not doubting him yet, but in every game so far, he's made some weird/curious decisions

Don't think he should have been signing the autographs but whatever. I still have faith, when he speaks he says the right things and identifies the problems we're having, it will just take a little time and injuries to clear up for it to come together.

There is a reason why LVG isn't doing that... he doesn't trust this set of players. He doesn't want to be associated with this group of players, he's letting them commit suicide on the pitch, so he can say to the owners.. look at what I have to work with, it is a message to the fans too.. don't expect miracles with this group of players.

He'll become more animated once he has a team he truly believes in.

What are you basing all this on? Not trying to devalue your post in any way - just want to understand if this opinion is from watching his teams in the past?

Same here. Now it's just a case of actually getting rid of all these players and getting some more "right" players in.

Alot of players to go in very short time though, that's a bit of a worry for me.

Reckon if we get 2 more in we'll be looking to sell Hernandez, Welbeck, Kagawa, Cleverley, Zaha, Young, & Fellani (unlikely), this on top of the youth we will look to loan out, that's alot of business to do in a very short timescale.

So what should we do?

Sack him? Don't be ridiculous. We need to give him time.

I'm willing to give him time, but that's irrelevant - the club will sack him if he doesn't get top 4 so quit with the rhetoric.

Comparisons with Moyes are beyond tiresome, the situations are completely different, last season we started as champions, this year we start as a team who has dramatically fallen from the top trying to turn the tide.

Completely agree. Whilst it may seem like double standards, the circumstances are very different - at least in LVG we have a manager who has a plan and a philosophy. The biggest problem under Moyes was that there did not seem to be any plan, and there were certainly no signs of improvement.

If we are still turning in performances like these in 6 months time, there will be major cause for concern, but I doubt that will be the case.

Look at that for a picture! Looks like he just seen a ghost. I will never see LVG in the same way again.

Steve Claridge:
"If that is the attitude he (Louis van Gaal) came into the game with, that is the performance he deserved. If I was the manager I would be waiting to get at the players, not signing autographs. That is exactly why you get the performance he did.

Then if Steve Claridge was manager he would be a prick. Those away fans have travelled down on a Tuesday night and suffered through that shite. Least you can expect is to have your kids get an autograph from the manager if that's what they're after.

One of the biggest problems is that the team lacks any kind of true leadership. Losing Giggs, Vidic, Rio, and Evra all in one go takes away a lot of experience.

There are just no leaders on this team. No one to take a game by the balls and lift the team.

Someone held up a mirror and he saw Moyes staring back at him.

@pseudo_canadian Hopefully Di Maria will be able to do this. There is lots of talk of him having the 'class of 92 mentality' in the sense that even if he scores 3 own goals he will still scream for the ball and try to do something with it.

I'm guessing a lot of the doom and gloom is coming from the awesome pre-season we had, not just in terms of results but also the quality of football we played at times.
I think our situation should be used in future as reference as to why you can never trust pre-season.

I still have faith in him though, he has a proven track record unlike Moyes, thats why many fans still have faith in LVG.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, when asked if the club would be signing any more players in this transfer window: "No. This is same question your other colleagues have put. We know exactly what we are doing. We have lost in the Capital One Cup, and so tonight has cost us the chance of a trophy, and that is disappointing."

Meltdown commence. I still think we'll sign someone, though.

I hope he sees the fecking light.

Let's be logical shall we? This team will never EVER player again together. We needed to play a team which had a little bit of experience but at the same time we loads of injuries. Add to the fact we've just played a match less than 48 hours ago. Would you rather risk further injury?

Hernandez, Welbeck, Anderson, Evans and DDG. The spine of the team were fit and were experienced. The team fecked up. This system can work but it needs time and as it has been said time and time again. It's different from anything any of these players have ever played before.

Once they get it right, it'll be a much better sight. Holland, if not a little boring sometimes, had a wonderful defence with average players. So this means that the system works. If that is the case, we will need time to make the same situation.

Let's face it, the first couple of months, will be shite. The real change comes after. Whatever formation he used anywhere else, 4-3-3? It took time. So regardless of system, our lads have to buck up and get their shite together.

I know. I replied to him on twitter not that it'll do any good. What a f*cking twat. LVG was an absolute gentleman doing that for those travelling kids and fans who have paged a lot of money to come and watch their team play tonight. He's more of a man than Claridge will ever be.

Can we really afford to go around treating it as the Mickey Mouse cup these days?

Personally, given that we have no European commitments, i'd have liked to see LvG field a stronger side. Maybe not full strength, but at least two or three of Rooney/Mata/RvP/Cleverley/Fletcher/Young/Jones in the mix, or even on the bench.

Winning breeds confidence, and a win tonight - as well as a good cup run in general - would create a bit of buzz about the place. As much among the supporters as anything.

Maybe LvG didn't want to risk any more injuries, and is prioritising the league. And I can understand that. But like I said . . . are we really in a position to be disrespecting any chance of a trophy at this moment in time, especially when we have relatively few games to play this season?
LvG came after the WC. He had to start rightaway with the preseason. There some players played pretty good(Young) and then turned to shite when the first games came along. Today we saw a lot of players on the pitch that rarely have a chance, he said that he will give everyone game time and will assess them individually. Better do that in the league cup game, rather than in the league.

Fergie also lost to poor sides during the years, granted the result wasn't like that but shit happen. Today nothing seemed to work. Yes LvG should take the blame, but so do the players, who at times weren't even moving. If you want to impress and keep your place this is not the way to do it.

Maybe Moyes had a philosophy and the players simply ignored him. Who's to say they won't do the same to LVG?
So far I'm not seeing any difference apart from that weird 3-5-2.
In fact we're worse that last season.

Teams in the past? yes and I've been reading about this guy since I was a kid.. one of my all time coaching and managerial idols. He's an absolute fruitcake, literally thinks of the game in such an unorthodox way but essentially there is always an underlying plan to his decision-making.

For example, he probably already knows James wilson is better than Hernandez, but he will persist with Hernandez for now just to prove to himself his judgement is right. He's batshit crazy.. but with time, he nearly always comes up with the goods. Expect more of the same, in relation to shit results until the new players get bed in.

Anyone else predict 5-0 to MK Dons, missed out by one goal :(

Bullshit. I saw the interview and that was a "No" as in, "No I won't answer your question."

Nothing has changed for me with regards to LVG tonight. I completely trust in him to transform us for the better. But it will take time. Months to even a year or two.

There's no time

If he loses the next 4-5 games in a row, he is out before October.

Claridge is talking nonsense. So the United fans who travelled to Milton Keynes on a week night to see their side get stuffed by a League 1 outfit deserved to get blanked by Van Gaal? Rubbish. There are things you can have a go at Van Gaal for tonight, taking the time out to appreciate the fans who sung their hearts out regardless of the result isn't one of them.

Yeah this. And great and very valid point about Holland.

It is obvious that he is purposely not criticizing these players in public and is willing to take the stick. These kind of losses against lesser oppositions can be detrimental to young players. He will deal with the issues privately. During match it was clear that he was fuming inside and wasn't satisfied with performance. Take his comments with a pinch of salt. Pretty sure he has seen the problems and weaknesses in the current system and players and he has already said that he is flexible to change systems. Let's see if we get 1-2 CM in remaining week so that it becomes easier to play 4-3-3.

Moyes started good and ended horrendous.

Let's hope LVG is the opposite...
That was because the players had just won the league 3 months earlier and were still filled with Fergie's motivation and passion.
What LVG has now is what Moyes left him.

I don't think he meant no as in no more signings. I'm pretty sure he just said that because he was annoyed by hearing that same / similar question over and over again in the past few weeks. BBC have misquoted him.

I bet Steve Claridge is one of those dads that rubs it in once the child does something wrong. No point battering a dead horse. He signed the autographs because maybe he felt that's the least he could do. It's not that he's trying to show his popularity.

True. If he had just walked past a kid asking for an autograph, he would spin it the other way and say he is a prick for not signing it.
