Every time I watched Madrid last season he was the best player on the pitch.

Don't care what the fee is, this is fantastic news.

Wrong if Di Maria settles we are dead cert for the CL, signing Benatia + De Jong brings us right back into the title race. With an explosive player like Di Maria our forward line will be too hot to handle, suddenly there is someone scaring defenders with pace and trickery meaning that there is more space for Mata to operate in and we have goals, plenty of them in RvP and Rooney. That front four alone is more than enough to get us into the top four.
Goals are all well and good, but do you really have confidence in the likes of Jones, Smalling and Evans to keep clean sheets? the jury is still out on Rojo too. Then on to the midfield, which is a shambles to put it lightly. Herrera's injury proves that with the panic that's been going around. Cleverly and Fletcher in midfield on Sunday? Christ.

Oh good lord. My heart can't take it. He is everything we've missed.

Graham Hunter did a phone in interview a few weeks ago where he just raved about Di Maria. Made him sound like the second coming. I know I'm already on my second cumming.

As good as he is 60 million for an attacking player who doesn't score goals? Truth be told we have grossly over paid for all of our players in this transfer window. Shaw, Herrera and Rojo are worth half of what we paid for them, mabe even less. Seems like Woodward has said "feck negotiations, here's the clubs credit card, take what you want and just drop the player outside carrington this morning"

I rate him very highly and hope he plays a lot more this year, but I doubt it would be at Rooney's expense.
With our injury record you can bet on him playing a fair bit. Also, Rooney is captain now so he's not getting left behind by a long shot.

Drive the price down, not up. Good lord man. I'd take Vidal at £50m.

Then he should have spent it to balance it more.

And our squad matches up pretty well to most tbh. I take the average of last 2/3 years as base point. Not just last season like some.
I'm not saying we shouldn't spend more, i think we should as our squad as not as good a City's or Chlesea's by a distance, and arguably Arsenal's. Our squad has had some underinvestment followed by buying that has left us unbalanced as a squad.

Some folks really underestimate our squad i see.

Having spent 125 million pounds and potentially more there would be really no excuse for LVG now not to get top 4 at least.
Top 4 was people's minimum last season, now with the money we've spent we should be aiming to challenge for the title.

would be great to have exciting action back at OT again

50M, 60M. Who gives a shit? No one here is going to turn around in a month and say, "I'm glad we didn't sign Di Maria for 60m. It was just too much. We have Young."

Just get it done.

I'd really like to mix things up a bit and see some peoples original line ups including Di Maria followed by . that would be really nice.

Is the press already at the airport waiting on him and reporting exactly when flights from Madrid to Manchester fly in...

(The Munich press camped at the airport for the Martinez transfer - they even had a ticker... )

Jorge Mendes needs to fly back from Singapore first to hopefully wrap this up.

Not sure why Januzaj keeps appearing these lineups. He'll spend much of the year on the bench.
That's what we heard last year, before he went on to be our most effective attacking player bar Rooney. Also before our last match, when he was comfortably our best attacking player again. There's a pattern here.

Januzaj gets into these lineups because with Di Maria we'd go back to playing wingers, and Januzaj would be our second best winger. Better to leave Rooney out/let him compete for places with RVP and Mata than play him on the wing.

We ran away with the title last to last season. Finished 2nd on goal difference the season before. One bad season terribly underachieving and Moyes convinced some people that our squad was shit for some reason even after adding a top player in Mata.

If our squad was so bad and 7th or 6th was accurate representation then we shouldn't have sacked Moyes anyway. Top 4 was considered minimum by most last season even accounting for the massive change factor and was included in Moyes' contract too IIRC.

Now after spending 125 million and more potentially which is almost 2nd or third highest for any club ever in one window if he can't even get 4th then it's his fault for not spending the money properly. That's what i meant by the first line.

Going to have to do some serious rearranging to squeeze him into my fantasy team.

A player like him doesn't become available often, spend whatever it takes to get him. Chelsea sold us one of their best players and now Madrid are, let's not question things like the price just get it done, we seriously need players of that calibre.

I'm torn into shreds about this. On one hand, a brilliant signing that will make our attack twice as lethal. On another, it brings down our chances of signing a good centre mid from 1% down to 0.1%. And without one, we're as good as fecked even if we have Messi, Neymar and Ronaldo up front.

People are also so willing to put Rooney in midfield but not on the wing? Like I said before he was effective when he played when Ronaldo was here. Mata was also effective on the wing he played for Chelsea. With LVG's 4-3-3 maybe the four of them will click together. Who knows?

Just because Rooney is a better player than Januzaj, doesn't mean he will play better on the wing. If this was Rooney from a couple of years ago that could still beat players Rooney would hands down play over Januzaj on the wing. He doesn't beat players that often anymore and he hasn't played on the wing in a long time.
He's just been made captain...... He's not going to be dropped.

Leaving Rooney out would be absolute nuts. With our midfield problems he's more than able capable of filling in CM until we get more stable there

Are there any English-speaking Real Madrid forums floating about? Would like to see their opinions on di Maria.
