BBC is reporting this. So it's more than tabloid talk at this stage. Don't know how I feel about this, to be honest. Obviously he is a great player, and I actually think he single handedly got Real that final win against Atletico, but we now have loads of players for the front six or five and if that means losing Welbeck, it's disappointing. He'll do a Sturridge if given a chance at a club like Arsenal, I'm sure of it.

Great buy, though, but I want a quality centre midfielder.

Update:

- About 2 hours ago Revista de La Liga said they had Breaking news
- Ballbags said Di Maria is going to join us with specific details
- Sky started reporting it as true
- BBC said we changed our stance to ''no comment''
- Marca said it is close
- Cadena Ser said it is close
- Guardian, Telegraph, Mail all saying we will sign him

It's on.

Most skilful player at Madrid and their best big game player.. one of the few players in football who can tear world class defenders apart (see his twisting in and out of Puyol). One thing he is not, is a great goalscorer.. but in terms of drive with the ball, fearlessness in terms of taking players on, I struggle to think of any players who come close.. Robben is similar in that respect.

Sounds as if Real fans rate him higher than Bale.

The conviction with which he speaks confirms to me that Di Maria is coming. There were no maybe's or if's, this is Guillem Balague getting a scoop and making money rain all over himself by breaking the story. That's the sight of a journalist who is sure of himself. No twitter babble, this is factual reporting.

Spot on. This is what a transfer that is actually happening looks like. Not all that twitter hot air that has been blowing for months about Vidal et al.

With Sturridge it was always the question of him staying fit, Welbeck can't stay fit and he can't finish. You can't make a player who's not a natural finisher into one that is. Getting Di Maria and losing Welbeck? Any day of the week.

Let me know when the same things are said in the Vidal thread.

I love how part of the conversation in which Ronaldo convinced Di Maria coming here, was convincing him that he will get the legendary no.7 shirt.

Agent Ronaldo "Hey Noodles, come here for a sec."
Noodles "Yeah, what's up?"
Agent Ronaldo "Do you know who wore the legendary no.7 shirts for Man utd?
Noodles"No.."
Agent Ronaldo" If you come to United, you will wear the no.7 shirt. In the past, legendary players wore it like Goerge Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, Beckham...ooh...and me!"

If his ego was not big enough, that will just do it for him.

What the feck are you on about ? :wenger:

All I said is its been reported in multiple sources.

I expect I was the one quoted. I usually check BBC first, then MEN, then here. Foxsoccer is shite but I was just looking for a source with credibility rather than a bunch of us muppets raising hell.

If we sign him I don't want to see a single person complaining about the fee.

He's a 'world-class' player (whatever that means) and he's the sort of player everyone has been crying out for. You can't sign a great player then immediately turn round and say we paid too much. Football is about having fun, it's entertainment, he'd bring that. Leave all the money bollocks to the executives.

Got a sweet little angel and I love the way she spreads her wings

The biggest problem against Swansea was how little the attack created. Di Maria would make a huge difference.

Obligatory kermit gif.

Well, he contributed more than Bale last season. Bale had some superb moments, but Di Maria and Modric were their best players consistently alongside Ronaldo. Particularly in the big games.

None of which is a slight on Bale. He was excellent, and was in his debut season and still settling in.

Bale is quality in his own right, unfair to compare them.. because Bale is a better wing-forward, whereas Di Maria is a old school winger in the mould of a Giggsy/Gento. Bale is a powerhouse and much more assured in front of goal and he is also very strong at running at defenders, he is not scared to take people on... he too can drive with the ball and take games by scruff of the neck, I just feel Di Maria is technically more fun to watch as he is so unpredictable and capable of insane skills.

Di Maria has more tricks up his sleeve, better passer and in a team where he is the main man, he could > Bale even as a wing forward (highly unlikely as he is a erratic finisher) because he wouldn't need to worry about ensuring greater stars in the team need to be passed to. For club and country, he has had to play second fiddle to Ronaldo/Messi.

at this rate we risk finding ourselves in trouble with ffp
I doubt that, our operating profit is very high and it will be even higher this year with the money we get from the Chevrolet deal and even higher next year with the Adidas money. The amount of shirts Di Mara will sell will be ridiculous because of the hype of the number 7 shirt.

Please explain. With the Chevrolet deal + the new kit deal + the new PL TV deal we will have the biggest revenue in world football we have hardly spent any money in the last 5 years and this summer we have let go of a lot of high earners I don´t think we are even close to not comply with FFP

Yeah, he was said it so calmly and matter of fact as if its pretty much already a done deal.

Nah. United reported about £130M EBITDA for 12 months ending in March 2014. It'll only go up given the Adidas deal-even with the CL hit. Given that interest will be about £20-25M, that'll leave plenty of EBITDA for higher wages and amortization of transfer fees. Assuming United pay a net of £150M in fees, when amortized over five years (typical length of each purchase player's contract)-you only get an additional £30M in annual amortization.

I actually think Khedira's a cracking player and all. Not flashy, but a player who seems to do a lot more than he's given credit for. Both of these players would stand us in good stead.

Khedira? I thought we were talking about Di Maria and Bale?

Di Maria on the left and Januzaj on the right in a 4-3-3 with either RVP or Rooney in the middle is pretty jizz worthy.

Midfield three of Carrick, Herrera and Mata. Also pretty good. If we could sign Strootman or Vidal then it would be epic.

Back four of Rojo, Smalling, Evans and Rafael. And that leaves us with Jones and Shaw to rotate in. Maybe Rojo plays CB and Shaw starts. Suddenly looks pretty good.

World class goalie.

And we are back competing again.

If we sign Benatia and Vidal. It would be complete. I wouldn't bother with Blind tbh. I'd rather go with what we have and wait for Strootman or try and do a deal for Carvalho.
