United to make Fabregas bid
Manchester United are preparing a £35m bid to bring Cesc Fabregas back to England, according to Sky sources.

BBC
Manchester United have made a £25m bid for Barcelona's former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

Where the hell are Olly and Jeston when you need them to create some gifs??

Know there's been a bit of bother between them in the past and he probably doesn't rate him as highly as other managers he has had in the past such as Wenger and Guardiola.

I could understand completely if he wanted to go back and work with Wenger over Moyes.

------De Gea--------
Rafa Rio Vidic Fabio
----Carrick Cesc----
Zaha Kagawa Adnan
--------RVP----------

Anyone? That would be a sexy line up.

Never going to happen, especially now. Feels a bit like an attempt to save face over criticism on not landing Thiago for Moyes et al - which would've been much simpler to complete...and cheaper.

Ahh, if only we had a Delorean to go back in time, you lot could get Cesc and Thiago would remain

Save face over criticism?

Again, have you have any idea who the owners are?

What if Barcelona were in for say 'Gundogan' for example?

To all those sorry wankers in here saying "dream on, this will never happen, etc.", would you kindly feck off out of the thread? This isn't based on hearsay and rumours, we've actually made a substantial bid this time. If that isn't a basis to start discussing and god forbid actually being optimistic than I don't know what is.

Might as well put a bid in for Messi and Iniesta as well because there's fecking no chance any of them are going to be sold. Id love to be wrong, Cesc is a world class player but after losing Thiago I'd say there's little to absolutely zero chance of Fabregas leaving as well.

My assumption would be that we lowballed for Thiago too (probably bang on the release clause, which led to Bayern snapping him up for a few million more).

The decision was in Thiago's hands once the release clause was met.

That's assuming we were even willing to pay it.

Not sure how those two can be mutually exclusive. if Moyes has any brain then I'm sure he'll rate him very, very highly.

Do you think we will get him?

And as we have made a bid for him, does that mean we know he's interested in coming to United?

If an official bid has been put in, we have definitely 100% enquired about him first.

As for being a PR exercise....let's draw up an official offer and send it to Barca to appease the fans/media? No.

'I know, we've missed out on Thiago and now we look weak, so let's register some interest in Cesc, who we'll never get, to appease the fans. We'll look a lot more on the ball once we get rejected and the papers have a field day about us missing out on ANOTHER target.'

Exactly.

Earlier the commotion was that we didn't go for Thiago. We never go for top players. We never shop from the top shelf.

Now that we have gone for a player - this is all hogwash, PR exercise, a bid to fool the fans etc. etc.

Mental.

That's because this time, there are so many things that make this transfer improbable.

There's very little chance that he'll come here bar some bizarre turn of events. Unless he's fallen out with Tito or Barca are on the verge of signing a midfielder, I just can't see how it's feasible.

What if Barcelona were in for say 'Gundogan' for example?

There's been some local articles now cropping up talking about how Pep wanted to sell both Piqué & Cesc the year before he left - but the board was having none of it. Catalan legacies like that are difficult if not immovable, unless they push for a move.

I'd love to have Gündoğan but Dortmund are not about to see yet another of their key players sold in this window...especially with considerable talk about his extension and desire to continue in Germany

I think Oliver Torres will be the next target in midfield but not until 2014/15

I don't get why we'd be so open about it if he wasn't coming. We've clearly leaked this like a fecker. Be strange to do if we didn't think we stood a chance.

I reckon for this to have come out we will have been given encouragement by Barcelona, and the player.

Seems encouraging.

Don't see the problem to be honest, he's a great player who has been under utilised and played out of position by Barcelona - make an offer, if they reject then that's that, if they negotiate then there is a deal to be done. Nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that....

My assumption would be that we lowballed for Thiago too (probably bang on the release clause, which led to Bayern snapping him up for a few million more).

We're lowballing this too but I expect that if this transfer somehow happens, he'll cost us at the very least £28m. It's a tough call though, if we somehow ending up paying what he is worth (over £30m surely?) then will other clubs think they can keep making us add on another £5m every time we're after someone? :/ Good job we have no budget

That's not how release clauses work. The entire Spanish press corp are convinced that Thiago had offers from United, Real Madrid and Bayern and chose Bayern. We would have given Barca what they wanted - in the end we couldn't give Thiago what he wanted - maybe a guarantee of playing time or a manager he already knew.

As for our offer on Cesc, everyone comes in low. Except when the agent as pre-negotiated the deal like with Ronaldo.

Here's how muppetry generally works:

- Being overly exuberant about signing someone, never get them (Thiago)
- Being overly pessimistic about signing someone, all of the sudden get them.

Right? Right?

From their website:

He hasn't signed the contract yet.

I see but they do suggest that they've already agreed a 4-year deal with him, hard to imagine him going back on his word now.

Honestly this is shambolic transfer protocol. Whos bloody idea was it to slap in a knee jerk bid for a barca midfielder after losing out on thiago? Not to mention that barca are now 15-20m richer than before AND they are down a midfielder. Clearly they don't need the money nor is fabregas even remotely looking to leave the team.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be over the moon if Moyes can pull this off but we look like amateurs right now.

Save face over criticism?

Again, have you have any idea who the owners are?

Except it's not really about the owners - it's about a brand new manager who has announced he has no budget constraints.

No way in hell we're getting him. Barca won't sell, Cesc won't join.

What if Barcelona were in for say 'Gundogan' for example?
Gundogan would want to start the big games, but he's not going to be guaranteed a place ahead of Busquets, Xavi and Iniesta.

Barca need their third and fourth best midfielders to be local/young and happy to just be a part of the squad. Fabregas' Barca roots means he's more open to that role even though he'd start for any other team in the world. He never would have left Arsenal if he didn't have an irrational love for his old club, and that's the very reason he won't come here.

Of course it is.
You just keep telling yourself that...

Would be great if that was the case this time around. I can't take any more punishment this summer. Honestly been depressing.

Its come to the point that even signing that clown fellaini would be a win for us right now.

Sure hope so! Hard to envisage this bid without any interest from the player or the board.
Still feels unlikely and Barca could have held onto Thiago if this transfer was a possibility. The only was this could happen is if barca has eyes on someone else.

Hey I'm not going to say its going to happen, just covering all angles. It's possible.

Can I be the first one to say

So, have we signed him yet?
