Fabregas

If Barca accept any bid, I'm pretty sure Arsenal have a £25m option.

Yeah but would Fabregas want to go back to Arsenal? Surely he'd see RvP with a title (in his first year at United) and think "I should go there".

Would be amusing if he turned down the Arsenal bid and went with us. This is of course assuming Barca will accept the bid, which we all know deep down won't ever happen.

Two things:

1) This is widely reported, and the BBC have gone with it as the lead story - it's clearly got legs (more so than the Thiago deal ever did, I might add).
2) Arsenal may have first refusal, but there's not a thing they can do if Cesc rejects them.

Yep, something they never did with Thiago.

It's strange that Moyes says he has almost unlimited funds, then we submit a reasonably low bid for Fabregas.

I assume when you're negotiating, you simply don't go in with a price near your valuation of the player and what you can pay, so there's less chance of the selling club adding more

Call me a cynic there but "this evening Sydney time" seems remarkably vauge for the Press Association

I've not really posted in here as i viewed the initial rumours with such scepticism and amusement even , yet there was foundation to it all along then. :)

I take it the club have put the feelers out to confirm that Arsenal have no intention of interfering.

Are Barca really going to allow themselves to lose Thiago and Fabregas in the same summer? 25m has to put all on notice mind you.

I can already envision it...Fabregas turns his opponent inside out and plays a brilliant through ball to Van Persie...Van Persie shuffles around a defender and unleashes an unstoppable hit...and ROBIN VAN PERSIE SCORES at the Emirates!!! Then both of them run over to Moyes and hug him while Wenger watches on with tears in his eyes.

Seems smart that we waited until right after they sold Thiago. I can't see this happening at all, but if it does somehow happen I'll be extremely happy with the signing. Thiago may have higher potential (I'm not really sure about that honestly) but Fabregas is premier league proven, the better player currently, and much less likely to want a move away in the future.

True, but it's just an odd thing to say right before a bid. We've got lots of money available, but I'll only bid this much!

I was wandering through a Barcelona forum, I don't think it's the main one as it doesn't seem very active, but a post from June...

Replying to a rumor regarding an offer of €47m from United. He said he'd wrap him in a paper with a ribbon, put perfume on it, and gladly take him to the airport so that they could sign a properly good CM such as Gundogan.

I wonder if this is the general outlook of Barcelona fans on Fabregas, and if that's the case it probably isn't so far fetched that Barcelona might want to get rid and get another midfielder on probably lower wages.

I follow three or four Barcelona fans and none of them rate him at all. It's very strange to read, some openly dislike him.

They haven't let Thiago go yet. From what I hear, they all prefer Thiago to Fabregas so maybe they might try and convince Thiago to stay if they let go of Fabregas. Just hoping, I would love that, because you know it would piss off them shitc**ts over at bayernzone  wishful thinking I know.

Thiago signed for Bayern yesterday.

So its time to go mental, right?
No, by all accounts Fabregas would be far less likely to want to come here than Thiago was, especially now that Thiago is no longer a factor at the club.

However, it's no secret Barca are a little short on funds after the Neymar transfer and they are still on the hunt to strengthen their defense so maybe a good enough bid would sway them to sell.

£25m eh? Well, we are the kings of negotiation and not getting our man after these amazing negotiations.

"£25m"
"No
"Hmm, £25m + a few add ons"
"£40m"
"Too much, £25m"
"Ok, £35m"
"Nah, £25m"
"We're not going below £35m"
"Ok how about £30m"
"hmm, we'll settle for £32.5m."
"£31m and we have a deal"
"Ok £31m."
"... £25m"

 that last £25m killed me

How great would it be if this went through and then Barca went for Mata/Silva to fill the gap.

Regardless of the initial offer, there is no doubt someone will gazump us.

United are in Sydney, right? So perhaps they're doing their business when they're awake rather than during the night. Did you want a specific time? I hear it was 8.17pm.

KingEric & I are well-known as the scientific rationalists on this forum and, in this spirit, I suggest that no-one watches any Cesc Youtube vids as this will definitely jinx us.

Anyone who wouldn't want the most gifted playmaker still under the age of 30 at our club is a mad man, despite what he's done in the past (which is no worse than the shit RvP used to pull).

Thiago signed for Bayern yesterday.

From their website:

FC Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona have today agreed terms for the transfer of 22-year-old Thiago Alcantara. In the course of the next few days, the Spain midfielder will travel to Munich for the obligatory medical, before signing a four-year contract binding him to Germany’s biggest club until 30 June 2017

He hasn't signed the contract yet.

This to me is more of a possibility than the Thiago deal, simply because we sre actually trying here whilst the Thiago saga was build on twitter, a football and a youtube video from a united fan asking him to sign his shirt.

Muppets are going to get themselves in a frenzy again over nothing

Barca aren't going to sell him. He's not coming, don't do it to yourselves again.

Too late :(

It would be an incredible signing. We'd probably be signing the 4th or 5th best central midfielder around, and one absolutely perfect for this league.
