Zlatan Ibrahimović

Zlatan is not a player for the bench, never was, never will be. His ego is too big and so is his salary, he would be one of our most expensive players and he would sit on the bench, no way imo.
Depends a lot how he views the deal. He would be looking at 6 months of regular football which gives him the confidence that he is doing things at the levels he wants to be, and which could help him to decide what next when summer 2018 comes.
He would want assurances in a 2 year deal perhaps. But probably he would go for a 6 month deal and see how it goes.

Mourinho can do whatever he want but this is my simpleton reasoning

Lukaku is a better fit for the team in every way and he should never go out of the team in favor of bringing Zlatan back in.

Playing both Lukaku and Zlatan upfront, not a fan because they don't seem complementary and Zlatan will drain the pace out of our attacks just like he did last year.

So I don't think we need him at all

Fixed. ;)

If he is fully recovered now already hes not human

Great news

He's not fully recovered. He's recovering faster than expected but he's not began ball training yet, nor has he had an actual preseason only physio exercises to strengthen the knee. He's easily 2-3 months away from being ready to play an official match.

I'd gladly have him so long as he accepts he's behind Lukaku. I don't think there'd be problems with that though, he's not as selfish as some people make him.

Our attacking Midfielders/Strikers combo is going to be frightening once Zlatan is back.

My only concerns are will Lindelof be at the level we need him at and obviously Matic can't play every game, so who will be his direct replacement? Carrick?

Now, lets do the right thing and win the treble. He can go out on a high then, go spend a couple of years in LA, and it would be a perfect end to his European career :)

Don't be silly, seasons don't wear on and those things never happen in football. 11 players is all we need for the whole season, don't see a problem here. Lock the thread.

I think you may be on to something here.
"We don't need Ibra, because we already have a good 11-13 players who can do the job and play the 60+ games we'll be taking part in this season."

As great as he was last season, don't think it's necessarily a great idea to bring him back.

If he's happy to play a less frequent role I would be all for it, but Zlatan being Zlatan, I just can't see it.

For all his lack of touches on Saturday, I'm enjoying our current striker making opposition defenders worried about having to turn and face their own goal, instead of everything being in front of them which tends to happen with Zlatan in the team.

Like I said, if he's willing to accept a reduced role, great, if not, no thanks.

The spirit in the team is fantastic atm.
Not to be a party pooper, but I'd hold off on the fantastic team spirit claim until we're in a game where our backs are up against it and we come through. That sort of thing in the video is no doubt going on at every club in the league.

Oh God No....This is not good for the development of Rashford and Martial, they should be our reserve strikers if Lukaku needs a break

He's not coming to replace anyone of course it'll be an off the bench option. Rumours he's taking a massive pay cut too which shows good intent. He really wants that English title.

I understand that the majority here are very cautious about being optimistic this season, but I think the spirit of the team has been really good ever since the last season IMO. I really remember Mata saying in last December that this is the best spirit he saw at United since he arrived here. The current spirit and cohesion between our players is fantastic ATM and I don't think losing a match will change that.

That is exactly the attitude that helped change the mentality of the dressing room last season. And more of it this season can only help us. Not to mention he is still one of the worlds best strikers and will chip in a few crucial goals I'm sure

People seem to just be focusing on his playing. Him in and around the dressing room is a huge thing for the team - he has the right mentality needed, a leader and someone who clearly the others look up to. As a player he is not a bad option to have, but his true value I imagine is what he brings off the field to everyone - especially the youngsters

There are rumours that he might be offered a deal as coach as well. His experience would be vital to this still very young United team. His ever burning desire to improve has already rubbed off on Rashford, judging by the latter's off season workout video. Rashford might be not be naturally talented as Martial, but I believe he could become equally good just based on his mentality and desire to improve, and to play for United regularly if not world class.

Terrific move to bring him back into the fold. He must be very highly thought of by not just Jose but the entire squad. He also remains a fabulous player who gives us what we need and want in the squad....options...and world class ones at that.

He gives Jose the option to play a different way in the final third, or indeed as a possible partner to Lukaku in a 3-4-3/3-5-2 setup. He can alter the pace of a game and his retention and use of the ball is superior to Lukaku.

He's hugely experienced and the likes of Lukaku, Rashford and Martial can only benefit from his insight and approach to the game. He isn't going to be around forever and the younger 3 are the future of the club.

Competition for places is good and Lukaku needs it too....he needs to know in his mind that just because he cost 75 million, doesn't mean he is guaranteed anything. When you've got Zlatan Ibrahimovic to compete with....it's a healthy reminder that you need to be on your A-game week in week out.

lets give him a proper sending off this time by winning the proper european cup

edit: palindrome

People seem to just be focusing on his playing.

If we sign him and he is at a level similar to how he played last year he will be playing most games against the teams who will potentially defend deep. Probably in the 3-5-2 we were trialling in pre-season.

A front two of Zlatan and Lukaku with Mhki playing off them would be a nightmare to defend against - drop deep and we cross them to submission, hold a higher line and Lukaku/ Mhki / Pogba have a field day.

Can't believe the negativity around this. It's a no brainer to get him back, he scored 28 goals last season that's not to be sniffed at. It'll only be a short term deal, it's not going to do any harm to anyone. Competition for places is a healthy thing to have. If Rashford and Martial don't like that (Which I'm sure they'll be delighted) then they shouldn't be at the club.

I doubt Jose is interested in placing the development of Rashford and Martial above the greater good of the team.

He's just coming back from serious injury. I'm sure he'll accept being eased in, and Mourinho can handle Ibra, I doubt he'll let him figure to the detriment of the team.

Seriously hoping for this, you could tell that he and Pogba were a cut above in terms of vision and execution, they always looked towards each other, and proven class like that has a role to play as an example for our budding squad.

Zlatan ain't stupid. He won't risk getting the same injury again and he will accept he has to ease back and therefore accept his role as a backup from now on (until he leaves for LA Galaxy in the summer).

I don't know why it's in question- I hope he signs for us. He could play alongside or just behind Lukaku- he's needed pace players around him and he should get that now

Are you suggesting he didn't have pace around him last season?

How is he doing fitness wise? Is he expected to be available around Christmas?

How the feck is he doing that at this stage? Looks like he might only be a couple of months away?
No idea, he's just not human. Of course he is showing it from the best possible angle, but yeah, he doesn't look seriously handicapped by this injury anymore, plus he is keeping himself in shape. Maybe, hopefully, an autumn return?
