Youth Reports

how many games did rossi play for united, and how many times did he score? is he topscorer in the youth team?

does arsenal's youth play in the same league? i was just curious to see how lupoli's doing, and he's scored the same number of games he's played in the reserve league for them. granted, rossi and lupoli are different style players, but it'll be interesting to see who makes a bigger impact/is better. oh and btw, how is markus neumayr doing for us, for those who see regular reserve team matches? when do you think he can make the jump?

No they dont. There are two Premier reserve leagues, one for the north of the country and one for the south.

He scored a cracking freekick this week in the (Pontins) match versus Macclesfield. He has a great right foot and decent vision but overall he's been a bit disappointing for me. Not Manchester United quality.

rossi was rated as the biggest talent in his previous club, so he was rated above lupoli.but then again, different players.
rossi seems to be a gem, and due to his position, he will fit perfectly in our future team.

Aaron Burns received a ridiculous red card when playing for the U-18's at Blackburn for the head-butt that never was. Happily the club decided to appeal and this was successful.

Jonathan Evans red card at the same match was not appealed and his 3 match ban starts imminently - bit of a moot point as he is currently back home whilst recovering from an injury. He'll be back for the run-in.

Info from RI, spin by me. Pontins league match last night, won 2-1, David Jones scored both, when the feck will he get in the first team squad.

He scored one and Calliste the other.

N´Galula Bardsley Howard Lea
Marsh Neumayer Jones,D Collett
Timm Calliste
subs: Crocett, Evans, Burns (unused) and Moran and Gray.

Did anyone see the under-19s come back from 2--1 down with 9 men to win 3-2 against Blackburn? Now that is a fecking Man United team.

He's way too nice to be a pro.

The Academy drew 1-1 with City at the weekend. Frazer Campbell scored from a Darron Gibson pass.

United are now in a three way battle for top spot with City and Blackburn.

Do you have any news from the u-16 team?
Those whom will not get new contracts, have they left the club? Has your son got a new club?
Is David Owens and the famous Danny Rowe one of those who will be released?
I remember reading comments few months ago from Filiho who were very positive about Owens.

From the Newbie forum

reserves leaving the club heard united are releasing 9 players at end of season. anyone know who? heard phil picken is going which imo is a bad move, he has been excellent for the reserves this season.

the forum

Anyone heard of this?

At least Fox is going, Djodjic and Stewart.
Nardiello, Tierney, Heath, Lawrence, Lee, Hogg and Collett are in the danger zone, I presume.
Picken and Eckersley signed new contracts this autumn, so they shouldn´t be in danger.

Fox begins Millers trial

Manchester United starlet David Fox has begun a three-day trial at Rotherham as the struggling Championship side look to boost their squad.

The 21-year-old midfielder may not have made a first-team appearance for the Red Devils, but Millers manager Alan Knill remains confident the youngster can bring some much-needed quality to his team.

"We've got him here for a few days so that we can take a look at each other. He is the type of player we have to be assessing when you consider the age of many of our current players," said Knill.

"David is also intending to spend a few days with a Dutch club, so we are hoping he will want to stay with us, if we feel he is what we are looking for, after his trial," he told the club's official website.

Fox said: "I have to try and impress the manager. I have to try and settle in quickly. I've spoken to Mark Robins and he has told me they are trying to build for the future, so I would like to be a part of that," said Fox.

"The managers want to get some young players in to build up the squad, and that sounds fine by me, so it could be good for myself and Rotherham United.

"I've been at Manchester United since I was 14 years old, and I have spent six months in Belgium with Antwerp. I've had a quiet start to my career, but now I'm looking to play some first-team football."

Weds Mar 2nd. LATICS 1 - 2 MAN UTD

Following a 12.30 pitch inspection, Latics reserves were given the go-ahead to take on Manchester United reserves on a bitterly cold Wednesday afternoon.

For the home side, Rodney Jack came back from injury to feature whilst triallist Amjad Iqbal looked to impress. There was no sign of Scott Fitzgerald in the Latics ranks as United fielded a very young side.

Just 3 minutes in and following a break by Calliste and Neumayr, Lawrence had it in the back of the net. However the full back's effort was ruled out for offside.

Following their disallowed effort, it was the visitors who had the best of the early play, forcing Mildenhall into a reaction save on 13 minutes. A cross came into the box from the right channel, which Ngalula knocked down for Shawcross. Shawcross tried a shot although his six-yard effort was blocked by the Latics 'keeper on the post.

Just 3 minutes later Ngalula was in the thick of the action again, this time providing for Neumayr in the box. Neumayr shaped and hit on the volley although was high of Mildenhall's bar. 19 minutes and lively Neumayr stepped up for a free kick from the left and although curled round the Latics wall, couldn't get his shot on target.

26 minutes and Mildenhall was let off as, following a United long ball the stopper shouted, then moving from his area to meet the threat. However Mildenall mistimed his run and failed to make header, the ball flying over his head. Fortunately Kyle Jacobs was in a deep position to clear up the danger.

However United did make their dominance pay as the game approached the half-hour mark. Eardley completed a goal-line clearance from a corner although United continued to push forward. A cross was whipped in from the right hand side, which Ngalula met- unmarked on 7 yards. It was an easy header for the big midfielder and a deserved opener from the visitors.

Heavy snow started to fall and you wondered if the conditions would hamper the progress of both sides. However United pushed forward again, this time through Mads Timm, breaking through midfield and delivering to Ngalula in the box. However local triallist defender Kevin Brown tracked the runner well and got a vital foot in to halt his progress. At the other end, fellow triallist Brian Jones showed a turn of pace and awareness in the box although couldn't force an equaliser.

Mads Timm tried a speculative 40-yard drive as the game approached 41 minutes, although was yards wide with his powerful effort. Neumayr had a penalty appeal turned down before Timm hit hopefully from the edge of the box, this time dragging his low effort well wide. At the other end, Brian Jones struck from the edge of the area- although never troubled Tom Heaton between the sticks.

2nd half

There were no changes as the teams emerged for the second half.

It was the visitors who again took the initiative after 47 minutes. Following a mistake by midfielder Jason Taylor, United won possession and charged forward through Timm. Timm provided for Ramon Calliste who could only find advancing Mildenhall with his shot.

After Latics answered through Jones, who forced Heaton to block his weak shot, the visitors pressed again through Calliste. He despatched from the edge of the box- again Mildenhall had to be alert to save with his legs. Timm latched onto the rebound but his final ball was weak.

57 minutes and Latics improved as Wilkinson charged from his position on left midfield to meet a ball over the top. He controlled well and, approaching the 'D', was shut out by several United defenders. The ball rolled harmlessly through to Heaton.

Chris Hall joined for Rodney Jack on the hour mark and could have scored with his first touch after Jason Taylor provided from the right hand side. Hall connected although was off-target, volleying wide with his left foot from 8 yards.

John Sheridan made his second change with 68 minutes played. Triallist Jones was replaced by Matty Wolfenden in a like-for-like swap.

And Latics equalised just 5 minutes after the substitute joined. Jason Taylor spotted Wolfenden looming in the box and delivered a low ball across the face of goal from the by-line. It was the easiest of tap-ins for the striker, deflecting the ball into the back of the net from 6 yards.

Latics' confidence grew as, moments later, Jason Taylor forced Heaton to save his looping header. However, the action quickly returned to the other end as Mads Timm regained the lead with 78 minutes played.

Markus Neumayr impressively skipped past Taylor and Iqbal to the by-line, before pulling the ball back for Timm. Timm's first effort was blocked by the Latics defence although he didn't need asking a second time. He pounced on the rebound, hitting powerfully from the penalty spot and leaving Mildenhall with no chance.

United made a triple substitution just 5 minutes prior to the final whistle. Moran, Puustinen and Lea joined for Neumayr, Timm and Shawcross.

And the last real action came with the last kick of the match. Calliste was bundled to the ground in the box and referee Mr Harwood awarded a penalty. Calliste returned to his feet to try and convert the spot kick although Mildenhall was equal to it and blocked to his left. A red shirt followed up for the rebound although Mildenhall collected again.

Latics came back in the second half although a United goal scored against the run of play proved decisive. On a happier note, Rodney Jack appeared to come through unscathed. The second string now face Burnley, away, a week today.

Coventry boss Micky Adams is to take a look at Manchester United defender Mark Howard.

The 18-year-old stopper has impressed for United's reserve side this term but could now be on his way to Highfield Road.

Adams is desperate to add defensive stability to his new side following a miserable run since taking over from Peter Reid.

Coventry are firmly involved in a battle to beat the drop, with Adams working his best to bring in fresh faces to stave off the threat of relegation.

Howard was set to appear for The Sky Blues' second string on Wednesday evening but inclement weather conditions have led to a postponement.

It is now thought that Adams will monitor the starlet's performance in training before making a decision on his future.

Everton Defeated By First-Half Reds Blitz

FA Academy Premier League
Everton 0
Manchester United 3
Saturday 5 March

United's Academy defeated Everton with three first-half goals on Saturday.

The Reds scored twice as a result of set-pieces, first through centre-back Ryan Shawcross after 14 minutes and then through Scottish midfielder David Gray on the 25-minute mark.

Fraizer Campbell then added a third just before half-time to give the Reds a commanding lead at the interval.

United could not add to their tally after the break, but Everton's goalkeeper Craig Gallagher had to pull off a string of fine saves to keep the scoreline down.

The Reds produced a fine defensive performance in the second half to limit Everton's chances.

United: Crockett; K. Lee, Simpson, Shawcross, M. Lea; Gray, Gibson, Rose, Mullan (R. Jones, 75); Burns (Puustinen, 75), Campbell.
Subs not used: Heaton (GK), Marsh.

Report by Ben Hibbs.

Shawcross a tall centre-back scored a cracking left footed half-volley from outside the box.

A player who has impressed this season so far is that burly Northern Irish lad Darron Gibson. His long-range passing and shooting as well as set-piece taking are his main strengths and in centre midfield has formed a good partnership with Danny Rose.

The more I see him the more I think the kid is a major prospect.

FA Academy Premier League
Bolton Wanderers 0
Manchester United 1
Saturday 12 March

Manchester United's Under18s extended their unbeaten league run to nine matches on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Bolton.

Fraizer Campbell grabbed his fourth goal in five matches to secure a crucial win over The Trotters, a victory that keeps the Reds within a point of league leaders Blackburn.

Local games like United-Bolton always tend to have an edge to them and this game was no different. Two two sides produced a tight contest of few chances.

United took the lead midway through the first half as Campbell scored the only goal of the game.

The Reds' defence, which has conceded just four goals in the last seven matches held firm again to record another clean sheet.

It keeps United in touch with Blackburn, who won their weekend league fixture 4-1 away to Crewe. However, Rovers have a game in-hand over United.

United: Crockett (T. Lee, 61), K. Lee, Simpson, Shawcross, Lea M, Gray (Marsh, 71), Rose, Gibson, Puustinen (Moran, 71), Campbell, Burns.
Subs not used: J. Evans, Mullan.

Great, if we win we'll go 3 points clear with a game still in hand.

The game in hand is against City, and is on the final day of the reserve season. Could prove to be the decider.

Mart Poom had to pick the ball out of the net four times as he returned from a long-term knee injury.

The Estonian, playing his first game for five months, could do nothing to stop David Bellion's strike from outside the area in the 28th minute.

And then on the stroke of half-time Poom let Lee Martin's shot fly through his raised arms as United took a two-goal lead into the interval.

Grant Leadbitter went close for Sunderland in the first half and saw volley saved after the break.

But it was United, managed By ex-Sunderland coach Ricky Sbragia, who bossed the game and it was no surprise when they went 3-0 up.

David Poole, who played as a triallist for Sunderland Reserves just a week earlier, fired home in front of Mick McCarthy.

Paul Marsh completed the scoring on the stroke of half time to secure a comfortable win for the leaders.

United keeper Ricardo saved well from an Andy Welsh lob in the 87th minute.
