Youth Reports

Maybe they want to keep the attention off the youngsters.
That might be the case, never thought of it in that way. Although, as it has been mentioned on quite a few occasions here, a good number of Premiership and lower level teams have a lot better information service when it comes to youth teams. I still think that someone here having connection inside the club should ask "them" to do something about the state of things...

And about that new thread for new season, I don't think it's necessary with this new forum software. But at the same time why not, as long as this thread won't disappear like the one of 02-03 season did...

I remember you did a great summary of the youth players last season.
It would be good to start the new season with a similar assement, with new players, released players, etc.

The tournament is called the Manchester United Premier Cup and is sponsored jointly with Nike.

Over 6000 teams start out to qualify for the finals which this year will be held at Carrington on 2nd - 4th August with the Grand final being played at OT on the 5th August.

Manchester United as hosts have already qualified. The other qualifiers together with more information about the present and past tournaments can be found at the following website

www.manchesterunitedpremiercup.com

To all you Fabien Brandy fans...yes he is in the squad. My son Chris Backhouse cannot play as he was born Dec 1988 and the cut off is 1989 born players.

They are building temporary stands at the Carrington training ground for the fans. Get in there and support United

The tournament starts tomorrow for the U-15 squad.

I have checked the official website at www.manchesterunitedpremiercup.com and it does not seem to be up to date. The draw should have been made Sunday night for the group stages.

Last year when it was held in Oregon, USA the website was updated immediatley. Even after games were played the website showed the score within 30 minutes.

My son has just received a form to fill in regarding the Milk Cup so hopefully there is a chance he may be considered for the squad.

This is my son Chris Backhouse at the Milk Cup in Ireland. He only played for half a game in the Quarter finals but not bad for a 15 year old in the U-18 squad. They got knocked out of the main event but won the supplementary cup 5-0. Out of the whole tournament they only let in one goal, a 1-0 defeat against Hearts, the eventual winners, in the group stages.

The first attachment shows him collecting a cross. The other two show him on the bench, one getting rid of an irritating itch on his nose

Stevie, do you know the squad in the milk cup. Would be interesting to know.

watched highlights of the premier cup last night and febian brandy was brilliant!

even steve bower mentioned his name when saying the high lights are on. now i can see why there is such expectation from him.

we will really have to look out for this kid, providing he keeps his feet firmly on the ground and keep progressing the way he is.

when are they born?

When I was making the list of playersa on the 1st and 2nd year in the Academy I started wandering about what Les Kershaw said in the MU Premier cup program.
It is a tournement for those under 15 from 1st of January, not september like in England.
He said that most MU players are therefore born in september october and november instead of the other teams in Europe January/Feb/March.
When we look at the birthdays for the seniors they are born in all months. No month stronger than another. But in the youth teams it is differant:
1st years:
Lee Crockett 04/10/1987 Peterborough goalie
Aaron Burns 08/11/1987 Manchestser striker
Frazier Campbell 13/9/1987 Huddersfield forward
Jonathan Evans 3/1/1988 Belfast defender
Sean Evans 25/9/1987 Ludlow midfielder
Darron Gibson 25/10/1987 Londonderry midfielder
Michael Lea 4/11/1987 Leigh defender
David Gray 4/5/1988 Edinburgh forward
Kieran Lee 22/6/1988 Stalybridge Midfielder
Jamie Mullen 10/2/1988 Nottingham midfielder
Daniel Rose 21/02/1988 Bristol midfielder
Ryan Shawcross 4/10/1987 Chester defender

This is of course because of when they sign these players the one who are born in the summer is almost a year younger and have matured alot less.
So, should we sign players 2 a year to correct this?

United Reserves played Corinthian Casuals on Saturday the 31st. I see that they won 3-1.

But does anyone know who played and who were the goalscorers?

i'm sure a lot of us would be extremely grateful if those of you attending uniteds matches in the premier cup could keep us not so fortunate feckers updated on results, scorers, stand out players and so on. i know these boys are only 15, but i still find 'em exciting. though - unlike arsene wenger - in a non sexual way.

Looked very promising

I liked the look of Derbyshire and the left back, Eckersley, too.

Isnt that adam eckersleys brother? Nardiello looks very promising as well, lets hope he is better than his cousin.

united are now in the finals of the premier cup and who do we meet i hear you say?..........why of course, it's the shit end of manchester football!!!!!

it will be a difficult game for our lads as city do look good but with brandy in our ranks hopefully we will win it.

Thats actually quite an achievement. Hundreds of teams put in for this competition from every corner of the globe. From this 20 teams make the finals including Barcelona, Estudientes, Corinthians, PSG and the like. Big names indeed. For the two Manchester clubs to win through to the final itself is remarkable.

I think I have it right that this competition has been won by South Americans for the last three years. So that's even more credit to the two English clubs and lends a bit of hope for the future of English football.

But,

C'mon you Reds!!!

1-0 to city but we held our own well with a much physically stronger side with 3 or 4 outstanding performances

If there was a mom my vote would have gone to a defender Chester (i think that was his name)

Did Fabian Bandy play, if so was he any good?

yes he did, it was hard for him because not only did they have some big defenders but once city scored they sat back hoping for a quick break....... what really impressed me is not only is he quick and skillful but he gets up well in the air and he is quite prepared to stick his foot in and battle from begining to end of game.

Our team did play the better football and tried everything to get back into the match 2nd half , the goal they scored was a little fortunate for one thing the ball was outside the segment when they took the corner---------- a bit of a diappointment to me was i thought the city side a bit cynical (holding ball in corner segment in last couple of minutes, appealing for everything) unfortunate in such young teams

I thought city just about edged it over the full 40 minutes. They were certainly physically the bigger team, United had 2 or 3 players with 'adult' physiques whereas city only had 1 or 2 who weren't looking fully grown.

I thought the city number 10 was perhaps the best player on the pitch but I was also impressed with our Fabian. He looks a lot like Sylvan Blake who will break into the reserve team properly this coming season. They have very similar characteristics and strengths but Brandy might be slightly quicker?

Also thought Richard Eckersley looked every inch the footballer. What price Adam and Richard usurping the Nevilles in the first team line-up in 5 years time?

The others who caught my eye were Daniel Drinkwater(?) in midfield and the right back who I cannot name unfortunately.

No disgrace to lose this one, the United boys will be much richer for this experience and the whole tournament experience will have accelerated their growth as footballers no end.

feck i think you might be on about derbyshire, the little lad who was playing in the middle to begin with?

we defenitly played the better football however their lads were defenitly superior to us physically and that is why i believe we were beaten.

their number 10 sturidge, nephew of dean sturidge who plays for wolves, is a good player but i believe if brandy had had his service then brandy would have scored a few goals.

however was good to see the lads play and they all did well.

Derbyshire it was, thanks!!

I agree that Sturridge did get the better service and Brandy might have done more with it. Both sides quite well matched, not a lot between them over the whole match - thought they had better of first half while we were stronger in the second. they certainly edged us on chances created as we really never got anything clearcut. They got behind us a couple of times late on as we chased the equaliser.

All in all enjoyable, I look forward to seeing one or two of these boys pushing into the Youth Cup squad over the next couple of seasons.

legal trouble

TWO young Manchester United footballers appeared in court today charged with dangerous driving.

Mads Timm, 19, from Bowden in Cheshire, and Callum Flanagan, 18, of Ludgate Hill in Manchester, appeared before Trafford magistrates in Greater Manchester.

The case follows a crash in January this year near to Manchester United's training ground in which player Phil Marsh was injured.

Danish Striker Timm wore a white open-neck shirt in court while Flanagan wore a dark suit and tie.

They both confirmed their names and addresses to the court.

The case was adjourned until September 30 when the pair, who were granted bail, will attend a committal hearing at Trafford Magistrates Court.

This year, the system of a U17's, U19's and reserves have been replaced with one U18's and 2 reserve/development teams that will play in the Pontins League and the FA Premier League. Taken from 'united' mag.

Collett and Poole looked MUCH improved against Wrexham the other day...really seem to have come on over the summer.

Collett was held back by missing most of season after having a broken leg he has reputation as one of the hardest workers amongst the youngsters, i thought Poole did very well 2nd half of last season, finishes very well

The U18 team got their season off to a great start with a 3-1 win away at Fulham

I must say he looks a terrific player. Frazer Campbell seems to have come on too...he's so sharp.

As for Jones, well I reckon he's almost ready now. One more season in the reserves, or maybe on loan, but he just looks a fantastic player, and seems less lightweight this season. Some of his runs are Gerrard-esque.

great news about rossi's goal. it'll be interesting to see how the new system with one youth-team and two reserve-teams work out.

Thats David Jones I assume, not Richie.

Good to hear he's growing a bit, he didn't look that big in the american games. But everyone talks about how good a footballer he is.

David Jones was quality against Forest the other night, he doesn't seem to have bags of pace but his first touch was so good (and clever) he was always finding himself space. Very Scholes like. Capped a good performance with a well taken goal. Once he's beefed up a little I can see him making the first team at some stage - hopefully.

I don't think he's slow
He's much more of a ball-winner than Scolesy

He reminds me a bit of Pearson of Celtic who we were talking about on another thread, closer to Gerrard than Scholes though obviously nowhere near either yet

I agree with you on City's no.10, do you remember his name? Just want to know just in case he makes it, then I can say - I thought he would.

Fabien Brandy impressed me a great deal too. Tireless up front, even though the game didn't really go our way. I was also impressed by the little lad that nearly scored a "Gazza", flicked the ball over someones head but failed to get any real purchase on the shot. I was also impressed by the fact that not many of our team where big lads that you could tell didn't have loads of ability but will always excel at youth level because they are physically ahead of the rest. Most of those lads don't make it because they are found wanting when everyone cathes them up physically. Mind you, our right back was nearly as big as me!
