While I don't really think it was a great year for movies, there were still 9 or 10 that I thoroughly enjoyed, and found myself trying to whittle down to a top 5 last night, which was proving difficult, so hey, why not do it here.

5. Inception - This will probably be much higher on this list for a lot of people, but for me the concept was too flawed and it tried to be cleverer than it actually was. Still, it was probably the years best blockbuster and still entertained a lot, partly due to its excellent cast.
4. Four Lions - Pretty much just one of the funniest fecking comedies in recent years. As dark and witty as you'd expect from Chris Morris. Brilliant characters and full of wonderful lines throughout.
3. The Social Network - Seems to be a bit of a marmite film for people. I personally loved it, thought it was brilliantly played out and the film just flew by for me. I guess it also helps that I'm a computer geek.
2. Toy Story 3 - I was worried about this, the first 2 were just so great that I didn't think it could match them, but then I realized this is Pixar, and they don't make bad films. It didn't disappoint, I wouldn't even call this a kids film, sure it's funny, but it's pretty sad and dark in places, and another one for the Pixar classics.
1. Kick-Ass - Easy choice for me. Quite simply the best superhero/action film I've seen in a helluva long time. Hilarious, gorey, filthy language, and with truly memorable action scenes (filmed on a pretty small budget), it had me completely enthralled for 2 hours. It also has probably the best, foul mouthed little superhero ever. I encourage all to see this.

Special mentions to How to Train Your Dragon, Scott Pilgrim vs the World (another marmite one), A Prophet, The Town, Easy A.

Haven't seen that many movies this year, but The Social Network is easily the best, and Inception in second place.

I can't imagine anything to be better than Inception. It will go down as one of the best of all time.

I've got a lot of cathing up to do with films this year so my list is a bit stunted in it's relative comparison. For me.
5. Kick Ass.
4. The Secret of Kells
3. The Karate Kid.
2. Green Zone.
1. The Girl with the dragon Tattoo.
I'm fairly certain though, once I've seen The Prophet, Four Lions, Never Let me go, winter bones etc especially never let me go my list will be greatly different.

5 - Social Network
4 - Inception
3 - True Grit
2 - The King's Speech
1 - Black Swan

I like that list, went to see them all and I can't think of any better off the top of my head.

Kick-ass was epic, loved it and I'd have 4 lions and Inception higher but thats a matter of personal taste.

Toy Story 3, The Secret In Their Eyes, Animal Kingdom, Kick-Ass and Exit Through The Gift Shop I think. Haven't seen the likes of The Fighter, 127 Hours, Black Swan due to later releases over here and I'm not watching godawful quality downloads.

5. Shutter Island - Mind feck film.
4. Alice in Wonderland - Tim Burton
3. Kick Ass - Not your normal comicbook film.
2. Scott Pilgrim - 8bit.
1. Inception - Great concept.

I can't be bothered to over analyse my choices so I will just list them in order of how much I enjoyed them off the top of my head.

5. Secret Reunion
4. City Island
3. Four Lions
2. Black Swan
1. Inception

5. Inception
4. City Island
3. Shutter Island
2. Toy Story 3
1. The Social Network

Honourable mentions to-
Winters Bone
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

5. Inception/Despicable Me.
4. Mary and Max
3. How to Train Your Dragon.
2. Four Lions
1. A Prophet

Not seen the likes of Black Swan, White Ribbon, Secret in their Eyes et al, which renders my list a bit useless to be fair.

I've probably only seen about 10 films this year.

Inception, Somewhere, A Prophet, Tron, Monsters, Toy Story 3, Four Lions, Red, and some others I can't remember. In no particular order I enjoyed these 4 the most, probably.

Inception
A Prophet
Monsters
Four Lions

Spooney you big child.

I must say though, very enjoyable flicks. It was a good year for animated films.

Yep. How to Train Your Dragon was brilliant, as good as anything in the genre. Despicable Me on the other hand's a pure guilty pleasure. It was just good fun despite being formulaic. Although, I suspect it wouldn't be anywhere near my top 5 had I seen more of the better releases this year.

Shit forgot about how to train your dragon, I loved that.

Top three for me.

Des hommes et des dieux (Of Gods and Men)
Io sono amore (I am love)
Un prophete

and a well-stuffed Xmas turkey Polanski's 'The Ghost Writer'.

A prophet
Secret in their Eyes
Animal Kingdom
Black Swan

Its been a bad year that I have to include Inception as my 5th

Same here. But it's either that or TS3, Hot Tub Time Machine, Kick Ass or Pilgrim. Christ, i've seen some tripe this year.

I'm downloading Mesrine. I hope Pogue is right...

Mesrine is really good, as is Prophet, I just wasn't sure on their 2010 statuses really, like you'll get Empire putting stuff like Precious, Up In The Air down in their list, even though they are clearly 2009, UK just got them late -_-

I thought it was a good year, probably better than 08 and 09 and that's without seeing at least 10-15 of the main mainstream films like 127 Hours, True Grit, Black Swan, The Fighter, The Kings Speech.

One of, if not THE strongest year ever for animation, a strong year for comedy with Four Lions and The Other Guys among others, plenty of legit good Oscar bait films, good year for indie and foreign, a legit great blockbuster in Inception(which wouldn't be in my top 10 still) and another one that was a lot of fun in Iron Man 2.

Kick-Ass is definitely in my top 5. I honestly went in there expecting nothing, and despite the fact Nick Cage 'acted' in it, it was still awesome.

Inception is the clear winner for mine, and Avatar has to factor for the experience alone.

Eugh, I thought Iron Man 2 was donkey shit personally.
Up in the Air is fantastic, but it is 2009.
The Other Guys is hilarious in parts, but a bit all over the place, though the "Aim for the bushes" scene is genuinely some of the funniest shit I've seen in god knows how long.

Inception is the clear winner for mine, and Avatar has to factor for the experience alone.

Avatar is 09. Late 09, but still 09 :)

I can't imagine anything to be better than Inception. It will go down as one of the best of all time.

It most certainly won't. I thought it was very good, but The Prestige was better.

Inception won't win Best Picture either (not that that matters much), that one belongs to The Social Network.

I'm sure I saw that a few years ago.

This is almost impossible, I will not include A Prophet because I watched it last year and it was my number 1.

5. Scott Pilgrim
4. Inception
3. How to Train your Dragon
2. Four Lions
1. Black Swan

Yet to see King's Speech, Fighter & True Grit

It's from 2003. Departures is great but was released in 2008. I'm not sure when it reached the US/UK though.

 2003, i rented it from the video store, it was under new releases, same with Departures, i was going to include a tale of two sisters but thought that might not be 2010

Thats the monk and the boy story isn't it. 2003 I **** it was released if it is.

Yeah, was a Buddhist allegory if memory serves me right. Was good but I thought it was vastly overrated. Certainly not as good as some other Korean flicks.
