Your perfect team

You can stick your joga bonito up your arse, we're punting it long to big Gunnar up top.

But aye the idea is to be as solid as possible off the ball and counter attack devastatingly on it.

 well this is what Domingos thinks of Gunnar ;)

I'd love to see that against a distinctly European team, perhaps one with a more physical slant - just for contrast. Something like Buffon; Maldini, Thuram, Baresi, Ferdinand; Keane, Zidane, Iniesta; Henry, C.Ronaldo, Shearer.

Gio's team would be perfect really. Maradona even fits with his Italian club deeds and rivalry with Zico ! but Zidane might make that more European

Yeah he was one I was looking at, Schweinsteiger is another.

Right now, anyone else want to do their perfect 3-5-2 and 4-4-2?
I'd probably go:

3-5-2-formation-tactics.png

Maier in for his understanding with the Kaiser, Maldini and Thuram obvious picks as CB/FBs both with experience of a back three, Cafu and Carlos freedom to do what they did in 2002, Rijkaard, Matthaus and Maradona obvious picks in the middle with all shining in 3-5-2 style set-ups, Pele in the inside-left role he apparently had at Santos, offering an aerial presence with Ronaldo stretching the back-line.

3-5-2 (went with a lesser names that still deserve a mention)
352-formation-tactics.png

Davids and Neeskens equally comfortable covering their flanks; Zoff-Scirea-Platini link; hardwork, movement and amazing all-roundness of the front duo will free Platini, who will be at his best here

Love it, thats a mean selection.

@Invictus Gento.. brilliant pick.
To be honest, it was hard to overlook Best, but Gento made more intuitive sense in the relatively selfless Zagallo role given his experience with Di Stéfano and Puskás. Dunno if the team will function as envisaged, but it makes a bit of sense on paper as a mix of Milan's 4-4-2, Brazil '58, and the German trio through the spine.

The right flank kind of picks itself: Garrincha + Djalma is the crème de la crème of all possible combinations.
Gento + Maldini is structurally sound, if a tad conservative. Boasts 11 European Cup titles, though.
Went for a different flavor with Kohler + Baresi in defense, rather than Nesta + Baresi. Bit on the slower side, but it's a deep-set defense anyway. Maldini + Baresi is retained.
Hard to improve upon Beckenbauer + Rijkaard in midfield, IMO - good balance between defensive resolve, box-to-box range, passing ability, and the talisman factor:

Pelé reprises his favorite role and is reuinted with Garrincha.
And Müller because Beckenbauer, and the decisiveness factor: https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2013/feb/06/best-big-game-goalscorer-football-history

Yup, I prefer your midfield to mine.. was getting bored of sticking Rijkaard into every team so went for 2 B2B's. Beckenbauer could possibly come into my original lineup instead of Charlton as well tbh, he's a genius.

PS if you guys haven't already.. get to the justin kluivert thread, made his debut but jeez.. it was an incredible one.

Neuer
Cafu Rio Stam Carlos
Keane
Kanchelskis Zidane Nedved Ronaldinho
Ronaldo
Really wouldn't care if my team won or lost, both would probably happen in equal measure. But I'd just love to see that bunch in their prime playing together. Zidane, Nedved and Ronaldinho would be the most unmarkable set of three players ever.

For what I have been seeing recently

Buffon
Maicon Barzagli Godin Evra
Vidal Pirlo Toure
Messi Suarez Ronaldo

Based on my generation.

De Gea - Pips Schmeichel for me!

RB: Cafu - No-one comes close.
CB: Ferdinand - Couldn't choose Vidic without Rio.
CB: Vidic - In my opinion, best centre back I have seen in my generation.
LB: Roberto Carlos - Get's my vote over Maldini because he can score some stunning free-kicks.

DM: Keane - To lead the team.
CM: Scholes: Best player at controlling a game I have seen and can score some fantastic goals.
CM: Zidane: To produce the magic in the middle of the park.

LF: Christiano Ronaldo - Wanted to pick Giggs but I all in all, Christiano is going to get you the most goals.
ST: Ronaldo - Class of his own.
RF: Figo - This was a tough one.

Subs: Schmeichel, Maldini, Cannavaro, Xavi, Beckham, Giggs, Henry

Not a fan of Messi I'm guessing?

Pulis-formation-tactics.png

The perfect Pulis team I can think of. Tall goalkeeper, 2 tough bastards centre back, two guys who played both centre back and full back at full back, as opposed to two centre backs at full back. Two guys to kick people in centre midfield, hardworking wide men capable of playing in a narrow midfield, plus Beckham's set pieces. Batistuta is the upgraded Johnny Walters.

Bale is selected for his long throws.

What's up with all the arrows? Do we really need to be told which way George Best is going to run?

I like to think it's a good balance with Messi-Cafu on one side and Maldini-Figo on the other. Contrasting central defenders who should complement each other nicely, organised by the best.A hell of a central midfield 3 and then Ronaldo up front.

Gone for as many big-game players as I could, if I was aiming for a league title not a one-off match I'd probably play with an extra striker.
This one is my favorite.

The midfield in particular would be absolutely absurd.

Enough fantasy already. Give or take a few years, this would have been possible.

United-Dream-formation-tactics.png

And I'm even leaving CR7 out. Boy, we've been spoilt...

Not a fan of Messi I'm guessing?
Tried to get him in originally but thought I'd put Figo in. Forgot to put him on the bench as well because I had Beckham on my mind  Never mind, he can play in the U21s for the time being.

----------------Ronaldo-------Romario---------
----------------------Ronaldinho----------------
---------------Zidane-----------Viera-----------
-----------------------Redondo------------------
RobertoCarlos-Ferdinand-Nesta-Zanetti------
------------------------Buffon-------------------

Neuer
Zanetti Ferdinand Maldini Alaba
Busquets
Xavi Iniesta
Rummenigge Messi Stoichkov
Upgraded version of Pep's tiki taka, i guess the only player that would need explaining is Alaba but while there are plenty of players that were better then him he fits perfectly with his qualities, if i invested more then 2 minutes in the thinking process im pretty sure id find a better player who is also a perfect fit but for now Alaba works and its not that he was average or something. Best left-back in the world when is actually playing there.
My perfect team would always be a total football team but id need more time to build that side.....

Got a total football side yet?

I'd probably go with something like this based on what I know/players I watched

Neuer-Cafu-Stam-Maldini-Roberto Carlos-Matthaus-Rijkaard-Figo-Giggs-Ronaldo-Gullit

Manager: Big Sam Allardyce

Too many teams shoehorning Ronaldo and messi, they wouldn't work together IMO.

Desailly, Matthaus and that CB 3 is why I called the team "You shall not pass. Beckenbauer pushing forward like a libero to ahead MC while Desailly drops back, making the team overload on attack with Pele, Messi, Maradona, Facchetti, Cafu with Matthaus and Bb recycling the ball. Desailly dropping in to Bb's postion to cover counter attacks.

Best-XI-21st-Century-formation-tactics.png

Went for the most balanced team along with the best players I have seen in my lifetime in each position. I left out Maldini because I never seen enough of him.
