Your managerial selections since 2013?

2013: Hitzfeld (or anyone bar Mourinho).
2014: LVG.
2016: Guardiola or Pochettino preferably but will support Mourinho if it happens.

I feel like after SAF, it was always going to be a British manager. The club wanted another SAF and to keep with its traditions and all that. Only when that failed miserably did they feel compelled to bin that idea.

Either way:

2013: Mourinho. Best available candidate. It's as simple as that.

2014/2015: Klopp didn't want to leave. He was my first choice. Ancelotti was at RM so LvG would've been (and was) a choice I am happy with.

2016: Wanted Guardiola. With everything we know now, has to be Mourinho.

I wish I could be as decisive and concrete as you but I was never able to see "the perfect man" for the job in one particular manager. A view that gets more and more popular here. That we "need" this or that guy and he's our only chance.

In 2013 I didn't mind anyone of Moyes, De Boer, Klopp and probably a few others that I don't remember.

Next year it was between Tuchel, Conte, De Boer and Giggs. I was firmly against hiring LVG at the time.

The likes of Rudi Garcia and Löw have crossed my mind at certain points as well.

This year it was Pep. Now, I'm not sure. I don't really see value on the market

I don't like this thread. It reminds me that in a summer where Mourinho, Guardiola and Ancelotti all moved clubs we ended with David Moyes.

2013: Ancelotti
2014: Klopp
2015: Ancelotti / Klopp
2016: Mourinho

2013: Mourinho - by a distance the best candidate, he wanted the job badly and was far more likely to make a smooth transition from Ferguson than a joker like Moyes. I was terribly disappointed when we got Smug Scot and was proven right in my doubts.

2014: van Gaal - the best available manager with proven record and a good relationship with van Persie and good record at Netherlands, enthusiasm was boosted by good Netherlands campaign at World Cup.

2016: Guardiola - again the best manager available, puts his stamp on the teams. Downside is that he might need good players to work with and we don't have them yet. Mourinho is close second and it looks like we're getting him. Working with the current lot he might actually be the best choice as he's good at getting the best out of footballers. 3 years too late.

2013: Mourinho
2014: Klopp
2015: Ancelotti
Early 2016: Guardiola (knowing it was unlikely)
Present 2016: Pochettino (knowing it's unlikely) / Mourinho

2013 - Pep or Ancelotti
2014 - van Gaal (was the best candidate available)
2016 - Pep (with him now at City, I would try the best to get Pochettino, Simeone, maybe even Conte, but Mourinho makes sense even if I don't like him at all)

I thought Mourinho was the perfect replacement for SAF
Just because it was a slightly impossible job to come into and succeed at. Mourinho was one of the few people I thought could manage that.
Then moyes happened and i thought we needed a rebuild. I liked Klopp a lot, Van Gaal seemed a decent choice
This year I'm not that pushed, i dont think theres any brilliant or perfect candidates. Pretty much a case of choose your poison.

2013: Mourinho initially but quickly change to Ancelotti.
2014: Ancelotti (LVG was the only real candidate left once Carlo was ruled out).
2016: Any of Pep, Ancelotti and Simeone. Reluctantly settling for Mourinho.

2013 - Mourinho
2014 - Van Gaal was linked within days of Moyes sacking so didn't really think, Klopp I guess
2016 - Mourinho

He'd have come good if given time. Proven science says that all managers become great if given time.

2013: Klopp
2014: van Gaal
2016: Guardiola

Before Fergie announced his retirement I wanted Ancelotti to succeed him.

I then supported the appointment of Moyes (and wanted him over Maureen, who seemed a realistic possibility at the time).

Post Moyes I still wanted Ancelotti, but that was extremely unlikely to happen. LVG seemed like a sensible appointment at the time, I had no issue with that.

Now I think Maureen is the best choice. Wouldn't mind us taking a punt on someone more left field, though, depending on how things play out.

Moyes (had faith).
LVG (lack of options).
Pocahontas (done good job with Saints and Spurs, don't rate Jose these days, also lack of options... Ancelotti would've been the one, ideally).

2013 - Klopp
2014 - Klopp
2015 - Mourinho
2016 - Mourinho or Pochettino

2013: Thought Klopp would be the ideal man to replace SAF with his attacking football, became clear fast that he wasn't going to leave Dortmund if not sacked though. After that tbh I was okay with giving Moyes a shot, although not very excited I thought he could do a good job here.

2014: At first the romantic in me said we should give Giggsy a shot even though his short spell at the end of the season before did little to convince me that he might be a great manager. Since I had given up on Klopp a number of managers I thought that would be good for us like Martinez, Pochettino, Blanc, De Boer or even Tuchel, despite being a massive gamble I wanted a young manager who could build another dynasty here. When LvG was appointed I wasn't excited but conceded that it was probably our safest option and the only good manager available at this point.

2015: Again thought Klopp would be great but I thought maybe giving LvG another season wasn't the worst idea either.

2016: I still think we need a relatively young manager who is a good squad builder next to being a great coach so Pochettino is now my favorite, especially since Klopp is now an option that's forever out of question for us. Of course I also hoped for Pep or Ancelotti but both signed for their next clubs pretty early on.

While I haven't wanted Mou as our new manager I also wouldn't really start crying if got him.

I wanted mourinho as the only manager available (even tho he wasn't because he hd agreed to join chelsea) at the time of fergies retirement

The only reason that is changed is because we have spent large sums of money signing attacking young players and brought through some great kids, and throwing all that away by signing a manager of the exact opposite philosophy is stupid - the glazers wont let us spend this kind of money forever, so we should build on what we have done

Obviously there are far more desireable managers for any club eg klopp, pep, simeone, poch. But since none are available there are a small number of names - I still don't think mourinho is the best choice for us

Same here. Guardiola was my first choice for 2016 but was convinced he was going to City.

jose , knowing he's organized and a winner. but also knowing he's a cnut and by this season would be about at his "time to feck jose off" period with clubs. when moyes got the chop i wanted klopp. as it's played out it could not have turned out much worse. we got neither.

A top 5 I would have would be Mourinho, Klopp, Ancelotti, Pep, Pochettino.. in that order

When you sit down and actually think about the fact that we have lost the opportunity to sign Klopp and Pep, to a mid-table Liverpool team and City team with no stature in Europe, having bought their way to being top four finishers, it's mental.

Makes it all the more important we don't stick with LvG and actually get Jose in!
